Youth For Christ brings
home trophy from USA
Friends and Family Day was held July 25
at Circle "C" Ranch, Delevan, New York
with 1,500 in attendance. The South Huron
Youth For Chirst quiz team travelled to the
United States to participate in the quizzing
finals. The team included 1,ori Henderson,
Seaforth; Kathleen Little, Exeter; Jacqua
Lobb, Clinton; Bill FThynard, Clinton; Jeff
Westlake, Bayfield; and Michele Whalen,
Clinton, along, with coaches Ron and Pat
Westlake from Bayfield.
Wes Aarum, President of Circle "C"
Ranch, was the speaker at the afternoon ral-
ly and music was provided by the Circle "C"
Quartet. Then the top three teams, out of a
possible 35 teams from the Winter Retreats
who carne from several different states,
took part in the quiz finals.
The Youth For Christ team placed second
the last two years. This year they won the
trophy by placing first and brought the
trophy to Canada for the first time.
A professional Christian Rodeo concluded
the afternoon program.
Thirty-three in SHABHA

HAYFIELD On August 22 the South
Huron All Breeds Horse Association
I SHABHA I held another show , at the
Bayfield Fall Fair with 33 horses
participating.
The first class was showmanship at halter
- Senior with Hummel's Feed Mill in Clinton
as the sponsor. First place went to Cam
Darling from Mount Carmel winning Absor-
bine Show sheen. Second went to Dale Mar-
shall from Dashwood who won Head -to -tail
shampoo and Carol Cameron from Dutton
won Absorbine Superpoo with her third
place showing.
Showmanship 13-18 was sponsored by
Durst Farm Centre in Clinton and Nancy
Walter from Benmiller won first with a hag
of Purina horse charge. Chad McCarthy of
Clinton won second for a bag of Purina Con-
ditioning Chuncks and third place winning a
halter was Lisa Storey of Clinton. Clinton
Pro Hardware sponsored Showmanship at
Halter -Junior 12 and under. Billy Heckman
of Dashwood won a gift certificate of $5..Jen-
nifer McNutt of Flay won second receiving a
gift certificate of $l0. Cathy Zolb of
Goderich won first with a gift certificate of
$15.
The next class was Lead line -7 and under
was sponsored by Double "H" Appaloosa's
and Tack of Hay. First went to Melisa Mar -
shell of Dashwood who won a lead line. San.
dy Ryan of Seaforth won a wash glove and
lead line and Steven Hindmarsh of Centralia
won a wash glove. The Walk, Jog/Trot was
sponsored by Greeting Card World of Ex-
eter 10 and under who gave first prize as a
puzzle and Steven Hindmarsh won that. Bill
Heckman won second and Melisa Marshell
won third. English Pleasure - Senior was
sponsored by Hensall ('o -Op and ,Janice
Bulock of Alymer won third and a bottle of
Equi -Blue Shampoo. Kelly Livingston won a
bag of sweet feed for her second place per-
formance and Carolyn Grenie of Exeter won
the class receiving a halter.
For English Equitation - .Junior the
Clinton-Seaforth Vet Clinic sponsored third
place winning a gift certigicate of $10 was
Cathy Zolb of Goderich, .Jennifer McNutt of
Hay won second winning the gift certificate
of $15, and the class winner winning a gift
certificate of $25 was Nancy Walter of
Goderich.
English Pleasure open was sponsered by
Phil Main Hardware of Goderich which saw
Kelly Livingstone winning a brush for her
third place performance, Nancy Walter won
second and a lead line and Carolyn Grenie
won first and another halter.
The jumping class was not sponsored but
,Janice Bullock won first, Nancy Walter won
second and Jennifer McNutt won third, The
Command Class was sponsored by D.G.
Thiel; D.V.M. from Zurich who sponsored
three warmers and they went to first place
Dale Marshell, second place Cam Darling
and third Lisa Storey.
Western Equitation -Junior was sponsored
by Aiken Brothers of Clinton and their third
prize of a $5 gift certificate went to Lisa
Storey, second prize of a.$10 gift certificate
went to I,ee Hope of Crediton and first prize
of a $15 gift certificate went to .Jennifer
Heckman. Bayfield Lumber sponsored the
Western Pleasure Senior and third prize of a
wrecking bar went to Janice Bullock of
Aylmer, second and a saw went to Cam
Darling, first and a propane torch kit was
won by Carol Cameron. The Varna -
Walton Feed Mill sponsored Western
Pleasure -Open with Gary Wilson of
Crediton winning third and fly kill, Chad
McCarthy won second and a bag of sweet
feed and I,ee Hope won a warmer and first
place.
The Western Riding class was sponsored
by the Woodland Drive-in Restaurant in
Hayfield and winning first prize and a gift
certificate of •$12 was Janice Hillock, Lisa
Storey won second with a gift certificate of
$10 and Jennifer McNutt won third for a cer-
tificate of $8.
Springbank Harness sponsored the trail
class providing first prize of Western Reins,
won by Nancy McNutt, second prize.
western bridal, won by 1,ee Hope, third prize
a feed scoop, won by .Jennifer McNutt of
Hay and the pens that were given to those
who won fourth prizes. The Barrel Race was
sponsored by Swartz Farm Ltd. Tack Shop
of Centralia. Lisa Storey won first prize of
Stable bandages, Rob Cameron of Dutton
won second place and a halter and Jennifer
McNutt won third and Neats foot oil.
Polebending was sponsored by Verbeek
Farm and Garden Centre of Clinton. Lisa
Storey won first and Absorbine Superpoo,
Carl Tyler of Dashwood won second and a
Bruch, third was won by Bill Storey of Clin-
ton. He won a curry comb.
Keyhole was sponsored by Nelson Bilyea -
Granton who donated three belt buckles,
first was won by ('arl Tyler, second by Bill
Storey and third by Lisa Storey.
The last class of the day was Texas speed
and Action sponsored by Ball -Macauley
lumber. First was won by Carl Tyler, he
received a tool belt and second who won a
screwdriver was Lisa Storey. third place
went to ,Jim Storey of Clinton who won a
folding pocket saw.
Then there's the valiant riders who give
their all.
Dodds -McDowell
Kimberley. Lynne McDowell and Donald
Earl Dodds were married on July 25 at Knox
United Church, Auburn, with Rev. Richard
Hawley of Exeter officiating the double ring
ceremony. Organist was Florence
Wightmann of Auburn and the soloist was
Joanne Roy of Ottawa. Patti McDowell of
RR1 Belgrave, sister of the pride. was the
maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Audrey
Bridge of Corrie, Lynda Boyer of Clinton
and Donna Lynn Armstrong of Auburn.
cousin of the bride. Best man was Ron
Dodds of London, nephew of the groom.
Ushers were harry Bailey and Norm Bail%
both nephews of the groom from London,
and Jason Dodds, son of the groom. The
bride is the daughter of Carol and Gerald
McDowell of RRI Belgrave. After hone) -
