Londesboro WI public relations committee meets

LONDESBORO - A WI public relations
meeting was held here on August 12.
The meeting was opened with the opening
ode, Mary Stewart collected and Hattie
Wood was at the piano.
President Marg Anderson welcomed all
and gave a reading. Roll call was then
answered when the 18 present explained
what public relations meant to them.
The minutes of the last meeting and the
treasurer's report were given by secretary -
treasurer Alice Buchanan.
In correspondence there was a thank you
from Lady Diana for a donation.

BELGRAVE The WMS held their
meeting in Knox Presbyterian Church on
August 10.
Hazel Dalrymple opened with a piano solo
and Mrs. Joe Dunbar then read the call to
worship. Mrs. Mac Scott read the scripture
and Mrs. Garner Nicholson read a story. Ivy
Cloakey led in prayer, then gave the topic.
Robina McBurney then read a story and
the secretary and treasurer reports were
read: 23 sick and shut-in visits were record-
ed and the roll call was answered by a verse
on love.
1987 is the 100th anniversary of the
Belgrave WMS and plans were made to
mark the occasion.
A hymn was sung and Mrs. Dunbar closed
the meeting with prayer.
Community Shower Held
A community shower, in honor of Melanie
Scott, was held in Knox United Church
school room on July 31.
Melanie, her mother Wilma and future
mother-in-law Thelma Pletch, were asked
to be seated in the guest chairs which were
decorated with pink and white streamers
and bells.
Everyone was welcomed followed by a
short program.
Andrea Coultes presented the gifts to
Melanie who thanked everyone for the gifts
and also the ladies of the sixth line who
organized the shower.
Lunch and a social time was enjoyed.

Mrs. George „Black of Campbellville and
Jessie Watson of Agincourt are spending a
few days with Mrs. Black's sister Sarah
Anderson.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Vincent of Milton
spent August 16 weekend with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Vincent.
Carrie -Anne Vincent, who has been
holidaying with her grandparents, returned
home with her parents.
Jeremy and Jordan Nixon of Waterloo are
visiting this week with their grandparents
Mr. and Mrs. John Nixon and Mrs. Olive
Bolt.

The community is saddened to hear of the
death of Arnie Crawford's brother, Richard
Moore, of Bosaquet Township, which
resulted from a farm accident.
Ruby and Dave Pattison had numerous
relatives home for visits during the last few
weeks. They included her daughters. sisters
and families; Mr. and Mrs. Barry Thomp-
son and Gregory; Mrs. Michael King and
son Johnathon and Mr. and Mrs. Keith
O'Connell and daughter.
Visitors with Art and Isabelle McClure
were their daughter and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Barry Harrison and children of Ed-
monton and their daughter-in-law and
grandson from Cambridge. On August 8
Isabelle's sister, Sadie Porter, from
Scotland arrived and will be staying for the
next few weeks.
Florence Quinn is a patient at Clinton
Public Hospital. Everyone wishes her a
speedy recovery.
Blyth Lion's Park was a busy place last
Wednesday. Visitors from New Brunswick
arrived in a bus. They were here with the
theatre and had made plans to park here.
Members of the Christian Reform Church
were also present for a meal and get
together. As well, the Blyth Busters, ages
7-8, had a ball practice in the park. This
week. though. the children had a whole new
concept. See who could hit the ball hard
enough to be in amongst the tents.
By Monday morning, everything was
hack to normal again.

The 85th anniversary celebrations for the
Wingham WI will be held on September 24 at
the United Church in Wingham.
Public relations officer Lois Elliott gave a
report on the 90th anniversary of the WI in
North Bay. She was the groups delegate.
At the meeting were nine delegates from
West Huron. They stressed the importance
of getting new members, and said all of the
members are VIPs, or Vitally Important
Persons. They said if each member would
get one new member, they would learn by
doing.
She was thanked by the president and all
showed their appreciation.
The meeting was closed and lunch was
served by Helen Sootheran, Lois Elliott and
Doris Batkin.
United Church News
Greeting members to the United Church
on August 16 were Rev. Snihur and Harry
Snell. The ushers were Gerbin Wilts, Ken-
neth Penfound, and Grant and Richard
Burgsma.
Rev. Snihur led a hymnsing prior to the
service with Deanna Lyon at the piano.
Following the hymnsing all were welcom-
ed, and the call to worship was given along
with the following announcements. The
flowers in the church were frpm the O'Con-
nell and Penfound, wedding. This week Rev.
Snihur will be at the Lambton Centre for
continuing education. Rob Parr from Clin-
ton will be leading in worship on August 23.
Following the announcements Rev.
Snihur reported that 50 children had attend-
ed the vacation Bible school. He thanked all
of the leaders.
For children's time they sang a song, and
Rev. Snihur spoke to the children. The
junior leader was Connie Van Loo.

Congratulations to Ruthann Penfound and
Steve O'Connell who were married in
Londesboro church on August 15.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fothergill and Heather
attended the Marks -Wood wedding at St. An-
drews Presbyterian Church in Wingham on
August 15. They also attended the reception
at Belmore Community Centre.
Jack Armstrong, along with Mr. and Mrs.
Glen Carter and Colleen attended the
funeral of Dick Moore on August 15 at Ronn
E. Dodge Funeral Home in Forest.
Colleen Carter of Exeter spent the
weekend with her parents Glen and Doreen
Carter.
Residents welcome Bert and Joanne Lyon
to the village as they have purchased the
home of Mark and Alice,Kuiper who plan to
live in Clinton.
Don Harris of Kamloops, British Colum-
bia visited on August 16 with his cousins
Gordon, Darlene and Dora Shobbrook, and
his aunt Laura Saundercock at Huronview.
Ken and Steven Newby of Kitchener
visited on August 15 with their grandparents
Mr. and Mrs. Orval Newby.
On August 16 Mr. and Mrs. Orval Newby
visited with Diane and Terry Komas in
Kitchener.
