The cause of this action is the weekly Monster Bingo games. Participating in the July 27 games were (front, left to right) Alice Jackson of Clinton, Bertha Gibb of Clinton, George Kaupert of Huron Park and Margaret Mew of Clinton. Bertha Gibb had great success in the previous week's games as she took home the $1,000 jackpot prize. (David Emslie photo) Women split $1,000 jackpot CLINTON - Two Clinton women, Minlue Rumball and Jean Patterson were the $1,000 jackpot winners during the Monster Bingo games played at the arena here on July 27. Before the regular games were played an early bird game worth $97.25 was won by Marg Percy of Clinton. Bill Pilgrim of Clin- ton won the second early bird game worth $110.50. The door prize was won by Moira Robinson of Clinton. In the first regular game the winners were Vi Peterson of Clinton, Joan Dunn of Goderich and I,il Williamson of London. June Halsworth of Waterloo, along with Dianne Garrett, Carol Coffill and Thelma Ellerby, all of Clinton, were the winners for game two. The five winners in game three were VARNA NEWS Baseball, Larry, Daw of Clinton, Jerry Watson of Goderich and three Bayfield residents, Bea Skolny, Mrs. Ron Smith and Ron Smith. Kathy Johnsen of Clinton, Larry Stire of Exeter, and Ilene LaFramboise and Anite Vanderhaar of Bayfield won the fourth game. Before the playing of the fifth game a few special games were played. Bertha Gibb and Edna Fremlin, both of Clinton, won the letter "T" game while Rita McMichael of Clinton took the full card match. In the fifth game Betty Hughes of Bayfield, Donna Miller of Kitchener and Marjorie Steep of Clinton were the winners. Ethel Haist and Francis Gibson of Seaforth were game six winners. The game seven winners were Bill Pilgrim of Vanastra and Jerry Watson of Goderich while Bea Skolny of Bayfield, Alma Hugill of Seaforth and Elsie Hulley of Goderich won in the eighth game. The special letter "X" game played before garne nine was won by Lillian Watson of Clinton. Janet Parent of Bayfield was the full card winner. In the ninth game the winners were J. Storoyuk of Wingham and Susan Kiynich of Seaforth, while game 10 winners were Jean Sudyk of Goderich and Millie Hanley of Clinton. The six winners for the eleventh and final game were Marg .Carter of Clinton, Minnah Scott of Seaforth, Phyllis Knott of Woodstock, Marg Percy of Clinton, Millie Hanley of Clinton and Joan McAsh of Varna. singing pass summer months By Joan Beierling VARNA - The results of last week's games are: The Stanley Mixed Group 1 ages 7 and 8 i played a game against Bayfield and won with a score of 15-10. The Stanley Mixed Mites beat Goderich Township with a score of 32-3. The Stanley Squirt Girls were defeated by two runs when they played Londesboro. The Stanley Squirt Boys played Goderich Three and won by a score of 13-4. The Stanley Pee Wee Girls played a good game at Goderich but were defeated by a score of 27-20. The Dreamer's played Londesboro Thursday night and were defeated once again by only one run. Varna Agricos played Bayfield Babes, a very fast game, and won them by a score of 7-4. The upcoming games at Stanley Ball Park for this week are: July 28 - Stanley Midgets vs Goderich Township Midget.; at 7 p.m.; July 29 - Varna Agricos vs Bayfield Shadows at 7 p.m.; .July 30 - Stanley Squirt Boys vs Colbourne Township at 7 p.m.: .July 30 - Stanley Bantam Girls vs Goderich Midgets at 7 p.m.; July 30 - Dreamers vs Auburn at 9 p.m. and July 31- Stanley Hard Ball Boys vs St. Mary's Hard Ball Boys at 8 p.m. Remember to come on out and cheer for your favorite team. Entertainment Varna UCW entertained at the Blue Water Rest Home in Zurich to help celebrate the birthdays of three ladies. The program started with Heather Laurie playing the piano. Michael Stephenson played the spoons accompanied by George Dowson on the violin and Ralph Stephenson ( Michael's grandfather ) on the piano. Debra Rathwell and .Joyce Dowson sang two songs while Mona Stephenson played the piano. Gifts were then given out t� the birthday ladies and everyone sang. Cupcakes were then served by the UCW. Personals Dorothy Ostrom arrived home after stay- ing for three weeks in Winnipeg with her daughter, Ann Neilson. Dorothy's daughter is moving to Montreal soon. On returning home, Dorothy's grandson, Mark Neilson, accompanied her and is staying for awhile. John and Emely Coultis are back home from a two week trip through Northern On- tario and the Yellow Head Highway. They spent two nights with John's sister (Peggy BurneauI in Edmonton. Then they went on to Strathmore, Alberta and spent a few nights with Rick Ostrom. White visiting Rick they toured Banff, Calgary and Lake Louise. Then they returned home through the States. Raymond Beierling accompanied Barry Cleave to Toronto on Sunday. While there they toured Casa Loma, Hockey Hall of Fame and Royal York. They also visited friends of Barry's who are Bob and Kay Thompson. HAVE YOU GOT YOUR COPY? President Don Rathwell welcomed all to the picnic. A bountiful smorgasbord lunch was held. The sports program was conducted by Keith Nicholls and Tony Lind ( both grandsons -in-law of the late Samuel Rathwell) . The man with the longest hair - Greg Ostrom; the woman with the longest finger- nails - Pat Norman; the person with the most buttons - Dave Beynon; the youngest person - Danny Rathwell; the lady with the most grandchildren - Eleanor McAsh; the person with the most pennies - Roberta Plumsteel; the person with the most stripes on their outfit - Verna Rathwell. Tom Rathwell won the prize for guessing how many inches in a length of rope that was in a jar. The contest removing papers on the gift, was won by Dave Beynon and Irene Moffat. Pat Norman won the prize for the best nail hammering into a cedar log. Freda Rainey won the prize for the best potato bowling contest. Alec Ostrom pitched the most golf balls in- to a pail. Dave and Katy Beynon won the water balloon toss contest. Don Rathwell won the relay of putting the most beans in a pot. A peanut scramble was held for the younger children. The 1988 executive will include - president - Don Rathwell; secretary - Madeline Rathwell; treasurer - Eleanor McAsh; registrar - Marjorie Stirling; sports pro- gram - Barb and Evan Helm and Stuart and Betty Grigg. The 30th reunion will be held on the third Sunday in July, 1988 at the Sloman Park in Clinton. Contact your whole family and en- courage them to come for this special an- niversary.
