Many area residents gathered at the Hensall Co-op on July 15 to
help celebrate the Co-op's 50th anniversary and member apprecia-
tion day. A few visiting dignitaries were also on hand to help cut the

Township clerk's office to cost $64,000
GODERICH TWP - Council members here
were informed during their July 6 meeting
that the total cost for the new clerk's office
will be $64,000.
Casey Dendekker and two of his staff from
OKON Structures were present at the
meeting to negotiate a settlement for the
building. Council agreed to pay $50,000 cif the
ost immediately, and follow it up with a
$14,000 payment by July 15.
In other business two delegations ap-
proached council during their meeting. The
one from Blue Water Beach had 24 sup-
porters, and they were there to discuss road,
drainage, weed and dust control and speed
limits. Council agreed to appoint a member
to sit in on their association meetings and
act as a contact person.
The second delegation, from the Dundas
Subdivision, also wanted to discuss
drainage and road problems. In this matter
the road superintendent was instructed to
proceed with the ditch along the township
road and replace the catch basins where
needed.
Three building permits were requested of
council and they moved that all of them be
issued.
Accounts were ordered paid in the amount
of $225,264.91.
In an earlier meeting, on June 29, council
opened tenders for work to be carried out on
two drains.
The first work they discussed was the ex-
tension of the Steenstra drain. After the bids
had been opened council moved to accept
the tender of Hanna and Hamilton for
$14,640.
Tenders were also opened for the Tyndall
Clinton drain, and McKenzie and Hender-
son's offer of $65,764 was accepted by
council.
During this meeting six building permits
were requested, and council moved, "That
the permits be approved and issued subject
to confirmation of septic tank approvals."

"This meeting wouldn't have come
about unless Exeter threatened to secede.
So how do we solve our frustrations?," he
asked. "These types of meetings are good
and we can only resolve our difference
through discussion. We have concerns that
have to he addressed and representation
might be one problem. The composition of
the executive team is also important."
Only two of nine members of the court=
cil's executive team are from urban'area%
but Warden MclBurney indicated that two
urban representatives declined his invita-
tion to sit on the executive committee.
Despite the inbalance on the committee,
McBurney said he "never felt the ex-
ecutive committee was biased."

Fifty-two attend reunion
The 52nd Harrison Reunion was held at
the Huron Centennial School in Brucefield
on July 4, 1987 with 52 in attendance.
The Sports Committee in charge was
Marilyn Beechy, Deb Jamieson and Della
Bennett. They provided games and races
for children of all ages. A smorgasbord
supper was served.
After dinner various prizes were award-
ed with Herb Taylor, of Goderich being the
oldest person present, Steve Collins the
youngest, Hazel Collins coming the far-
thest, Leanne Jamieson with a birthday
closest to July 4 and Tom and Marilyn
Beechy with an anniversary nearest July
4. Tom Beechy guessed the contents of a
jar.
A raffle on a lawn chair was held with
the winner being Bud Hunt of London.
The election of officers was then held
with the following for the executive for
1988: President, Bud Hunt; Secretary -
Treasurer, Amy Hunt; Directors, Jerry
and Dianne Neilands, Joanne Smith, Tim ,
Airdrie; Sports Committee, Marilyn
Beechy, Deb Jamieson, Della Bennett.
It was then decided to hold the 1988 reu-
nion at the Brucefield School again, but the
date has been changed to the second Satur-
day in June at 2:00 p.m.
Accidents cause $5,000 damage
Two weekend accidents in Hullett and
Tuckersmith Townships caused $5,000
damage.
In the first accident, on July 17, Jac-
queline Knee, 23, of New Dundee was east-
bound on Highway 8 in Tuckersmith
Township.
As she pulled out to pass another car, a
westbound car appeared, and she pulled her
car onto the south shoulder. Once on the
shoulder she lost control of her car and went
into a ditch.
Damage to her 1977 Dodge is estimated at
$3,000.
The second accident occurred on July 18
when Robert Glanville, 18, of Walton was
westbound on Concession 7 in Hullett
Township.
While travelling west the wheels of his car
dropped onto the loose gravel on the
shoulder of the road, and the car slid
sideways into a fence.
Approximately $2,000 damage occured to
his 1981 Ford.
Correction
CLINTON - In last week's article, entitled
West Wawanosh opens Clinton office, there
was an error.
The office was opened by Delmar Sproul,
a broker for West Wawanosh Mutual In-
surance Company, not the company itself.
