THE ROAD
The Bayfield Wagon and Carriage Works
Ltd. shipped their first truck load of landau
carriages to Kauai, Hawaii on June 29. This
shipment, which consisted of three car-
riages, will go to Detroit by transport truck,
by rail to California and then by boat to
Kauai. Above, owner Tom Penhale shows
off one of the landau carriages while at left,

Our History Book is making History itself.
Reeve Dave Johnston invited editor Eddie
Oddleifson, to present a copy, on behalf of
the Village of Bayfield, to the warden of the
county Brian McBurny, at the County Coun-
cil meeting. It was a pleasure for the presi-
dent of the Historical Society to be included.
Those who have not picked up their books
may do so at the archives room during
regular hours. There will be a book signing
afternoon July 15, also at the archives room.
How we miss the village service extended
to us by the Grahams, when they were in
business on Main Street and introduced by
Dorothy and Ernie Hovey before them.
When there was a death in the village, peo-
ple found out about it in the store and could
leave a donation towards flowers for the
family of the bereaved.

This week Betty Lou Smith was buried,
many of us didn't know about it. The service
was taken by Rev. Youmatoff, a former
chaplain at the Clinton Air Force Base,
where Betty Lou met her husband, Stanley.
She was a Bayfield girl, growing up in our
community, the days of the late Rheny
and Margaret I,arsLL li
Betty Lou played the organ at Trinity
Church following in her aunt Mrs.
Featherstone's footsteps.
The Smiths spent many years living at
Camp Borden beftifie returning to us and
locating in Varna. Our sympathy is most
sincerely extended to her family, husband
Stanley, daughter Lissa and Lea Anne
Yeysey, her grandson Christopher and
mother Margaret Larsen.
Those wishing to purchase advance
tickets to the Preview Party and Sale at the
Antique Fair, to be held August 7th, may do
so now from Focus or Times and Places on
Main Street or from the convenor Doris
Hunter. There will be three door prizes, a
Sheffield Reproduction Rose Bowl, circa
1930 and an exquisite glass mayonnaise dish
with ladle from the 1920s. The convenor is a
strong believer in fine china tea cups, and
donates one from her collection as a con-
solation prize each year.
The neighbors at the junction of Anne,
Emma and Victoria Place, deplore the
damage to the green lawn they have main-
tained so faithfully for 40 years. They hope
the vandals will go by and be sorry for their
stupidity.
Do we really have to have a helicopter
hovering over head on Sundays? What hap-
pened to peace and quiet and the right to en-
joy it?

Enterprising
Seniors to entertain
By Blanche Deeves
HOLMESVILLE — There are no services
at the Holmesville United Church during the
month of July.
Please note the Enterprising Seniors will
be at HuronvieW for the July birthday party
on July 15 at 2 p.m. Ladies who were to
make squares or cookies, please be sure to
send them.
There was some excitement in
Holmesville Sunday evening. A big air
balloon from the States landed at Lois
Dempsey's farm which drew many cars
from the area.

TV CAN
DETECT
TORNADO
Television sets make excellent tornado detec-
tion devises.
If a tornado warning is broadcast for your area,
a te,evision set or a radio can serve as a fast,
reliable warning device.
THE TV TORNADO DETECTOR: Once the set is
warmed up, tune in Channel 13, darken the
screen to almost black using the brightness con-
trol. Then switch over to Channel 2 and leave
the volume turned down.
Now you have an effective tornado detector! Lightning will produce momentary white
banks of varying widths across the screen of a black -and -white T.V. (colour sets pro-
duce colour bands). A tornado that is within 15, to 20 miles will produce a totally white
screen that remains white (colour in the case of a colour set). Should this occur, switch
off the T.V., take a portable radio and seek appropriate shelter immediately.
