HomeMy WebLinkAboutClinton News-Record, 1987-07-08, Page 5LETTERS Patient is glad she helped with CPH canvass Dear Editor: June. 6, 1987: Little did I realize that one month after I walked the streets of several Blyth blocks collecting for the most recent Clinton Public Hospital drive that I would be a two week patient in the hospital, benefiting from the many amenities offered there. For my trou- ble, what a boom the whirlpool bath was!! In my position now, I realize that we are all in this together - this effort to raise enough money to meet hospital needs. I'm so glad I consented to canvass (I almost said no). I'll do it again if cir- cumstances permit. Melda McElroy Hours of dedication payed off Dear Editor: The Clinton Arts Committee would like to congratulate the Community Players on their recent sell-out success, the production of "I ought to be in Pictures". We know that all members of the audience will join us in thanking Floyd Herman, Bernie Pugh, Dianne Stevenson and Steve Oliver for their countless rehearsal hours and dedication to high quality. The resulting show was ex- cellent - funny and moving. We .need to add a special thank you to Stet Campbell, Kathy Lobb, Bill and Barb Grosch and over 20 other volunteers who helped in varied capacities from prompting to props. It was great entertainment. ! ! Thanks to all those involved, ,Clinton Arts Committee Child receives major injuries in accident HULLETT TWP - An Auburn youth, eight- year-old Douglas Maize, received major in- juries in an accident on Concession 12-13 hese on July 3. At approximately 11:20 a.m. Lorna Vin- nent of Auburn was eastbound on the conces- •;ion when the youngster, riding a dirt bike, deft a driveway and drove in front of her car. The resulting collision caused $200 damage to the Vincent vehicle and $300 to the dirt bike. From the early files... • from page 4 The locals were shy several players, but in spite of this turned in a creditable performance. Little Locals 1- Mr. Frank Haines is substituting as night policeman in place of Chief of Police Fremlin, who is having a two weeks' vacation. The members of the staff of the Clinton Community Hospital surprised Mr and Mrs. John MacFarlane with a kitchen shower one evening recently. Mrs. Mac- Farlance was formerly Miss Pearl Easom, a member of the staff. 75 years ago July 11, 1912 A Mixup - The household effects of Rev. Mr. Allin, the new pastor of the Ontario street church, arrived last week, as also did those of Mr. Paul, the acting manager of the Molsons Bank. The draymen loaded up the banker's furniture first, and, being misin- formed, hauled it up to the parsonage where they unpacked it, piano and all, with that care characteristic of them. Just then the pastor appeared upon the scene and realiz- ing that it was too early in the term for a donation party of such magnitude, he queried the draymen, then piano and effects were repacked and carted over to the residence on Rattenbury Street which Mr. Paul will occupy. Coming Down - Some time ago the GNW Telegraph Company introduced the night letter system by which 50 words can be sent for the same price as a 10 word day message. .Just recently the Company adopted the wireless system which enables a patron to send a radio message to the Old Land at about half the former price. The local agent, Mr. A.T. Cooper, is now authorized to receive messages for Great Britain and Ireland at fifteen cents a word The Old Boys Here - The Huron Old Boy's excursion was held on Saturday last. This is always a popular outing, many of the natives of the old country who are variously engaged in Ontario's capital tak- ing advantage of the opportunity of visiting annually the scenes of their childhood and the friend and relatives still resident here.
