TORONTO — The Ontario government
announced a new multiculturalism strategy
which encourages all ministries to deliver
culturally -sensitive programs and services.
"For the first time, multiculturalism will
be the responsibility of all ministries and not
just the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture.
The strategy is a plan of action. Cabinet will
formulate new policies as well as review
and revise existing ones in keeping with our
position on multiculturalism," said Minister
new
poration. Dr. Peter Salsbury is president
of the medical staff and Wayne Lester is
the County of Huron representative.
The board foresees a very busy year
ahead as they anticipate the construction
of the new obstetrical wing and are
rescheduled for another' accreditation
survey in the early part of 1988.

develop a multicultural .resource kit and
training program for child-care workers
and the Ministry of Education will take
steps to improve relations between the
school system and multicultural
communities.
The recent government budget committed
$4 -million in support of new government
wide multicultural initiatives.
The strategy is the result of public
meetings, and think tanks which Dr. Munro
and Minister Without Portfolio Tony
Ruprecht held across Ontario in 1985 and
1986. Dr. Munro also received advice from
the Ontario Advisory Council on
Multiculturalism and Citizenship as well as
from individuals and groups with whom she
met.
Cabinet endorsed seven fundamental
principles of multiculturalism which
recogn,iz'e'that people of diverse
backgrounds enrich Ontario. Through this
strategy the government supports full par-
ticipation in society and the opportunity for
all people to retain their culture if they so
choose.
