Many seniors
entertained
at Huronview
HURONVIEW — Approximately 350
senior's were entertained here in the month
of June to help celebrate Senior Citizens
Month 1987.
The theme for this year was "Aging Is a
Life Long Affair".
On June 9 our visitors were from
Londesboro, Seaforth, Zurich, Dungannon
and Bayfield. The program in the
auditorium was put on by Barbara Hodgins
on the guitar, singing her great gospel
melodies — Grace Sutzi played numerous
favorite melodies on the piano, and The
Wheel'n Dealers Square Dancers Banged
some favorite square dance calls.
The complete program had everyone
clapping their hands and singing along with
the old favorite tunes.
On June 11 visitors were welcomed from
Holmesville, Exeter, and Auburn to see
Gord Harrison on the piano. Tony Hyde and
Loraine Madge sang duets and solos and led
the audience with some old favorite tunes.
June 18 visitors were from Brussels,
Goderich and the Clinton Christian Reform
Club. The Fog Horns from Goderich per-
formed and they were led by Bonnie Dunn.
They entertained with a hilarious variety
program and there were a lot of laughs from
everyone.
On June 25 the Clinton (Golden Agers),
Blyth, Grand Bend, Hensall and Dashwood
seniors were visitors for the day. The Huron
string orchestra entertained. Marie Flynn
led the group and as guests, she had a group
of young girls tap dancing. Everyone did an
exceptionally good job and the program was
enjoyed by everyone.
Before going to the program each day, all
seniors were fed a full course meal in the
dining room with a minimal charge.
We welcomed everyone to Huronview at
the main door and as they registered they
were given a grab bag with gift certificates
from MacDonalds of Goderich and Dixie
Lee of Clinton plus other little gifts from
Huronview.
We hope that every guest enjoyed
themselves and we do hope that you had a
visit with our residents from your home
area. Thanks for coming and we do hope you
will return anytime to visit with everyone.
Stanley
Township
budget set...
• from page 1
The budget was reviewed at the first
June meeting of Stanley Council, and ap-
proved at the second regular monthly
meeting.
Other Business
Clerk trainee Maureen Regier has ac-
cepted the position of clerk treasurer for
the village of Zurich.
A new GMC 1,500 -gallon tanker will be
purchased for the Brucefield fire depart-
ment to replace the one wrecked in an ac-
cident. Insurance will cover the total cost
of $45,300.
Bayfield has indicated support for
Stanley's resolution that small
municipalities with populations under
10,000 should be treated as individuals and
granted money for shoreline protection.
Stanley Township owns 700 feet of Lake
Huron shoreline which would cost $70,060
at today's prices to protect. Reeve
Clarence Rau will speak in favour of the
resolution at the AMO conference in
August.
Council has requested the ministry of the
environment to appoint a project manager
to confirm the sizing, location, cost
estimates and financing of a watermain
along highway 21 at no cost to the
township. Engineer Steve Burns of B.M.
Ross and Associates attended the June 22
meeting of council to advise that a projects
manager appointed by MOE would assist
in securing grants and having them paid
as work progressed. The manager would
also act as liaison among the engineer,
council and ministry. The one disadvan-
tage is the possibility of a longer time be-
ing required to complete the project.
Once a study has determined estimated
costs, public meetings will be held to find
out the will of property owners who would
be affected. Only one objection is
necessary to bring such a proposal before
the OMB.
Wastes dumped illegally on lots 15 and
16, concession 12, have been cleaned up
and the area posted. A passing policeman
was the first to report that everything
from household garbage to dead pigs had
been dumped at the site by persons
unknown. Road superintendent Bill Taylor
has applied to the ABCA for permission to
place fill on the property.
The township is profiting from the hay
on some of its property. A tender of $450
from Ervin Keyes was accepted to cut hay
on part lots 11 and 12, concession H.R.S. in
Goderich township, as was one for $1,100
from Glen Neeb for part lot 16, concession
B.R.N. in Stanley.
