Of his competition, Mr. Pederson says, "I don't see anybody knocking me off in the next three or four years", but, if the unex- pected happens, he states with a grin, "I'll shake his hand, he'll deserve it". One of his future goals is to win one of the major races in the/states. I'm in good shape and feel strong and confident, plus my Yamaha's are working great," he said. Mr. Pederson won his first race in Calgary back in 1977, and has been winning ever since. He's number one in Canada, and in the states he's fifth in the Supercross series and fourth in the U.S. Motocross Series. Though confident he can't be beaten in Canada, he does admit the competition is getting better; more experienced, than they were six years ago. Look for the competition to be gunning for Ross Pederson, No. 1, at Hully Gully June 20 and 21 at the Canadian National Expert Motocross Championships. Odd look By Steve Cooke A new fish hook has been developed, and I'm certain we'll be seeing a lot of it in the near future. It is an odd looking outfit, but it works, and that's what counts. One of the amazing things about this system is that it develops 100 percent line strength, something no knot can do and it's easy enough for a five.year old child to tie. It's exciting because it's the first patent ever granted to a fish hook in over sixty years. Lifetime outdoorsman and former small-town steel -rigger from north- western Pennsylvania, Joe Manno, has patented this hook incorporating, a no - knots "wrap -and -tuck" design that in- creases leader strength, adapts easily to night and ice fishing, and quickly ad- justs to various minnow lengths. Using a series of wraps instead of the traditional thread -and -knot technique, the right-handed No -Knots T-shaped configuration reduces line stress, re- quires less dexterity and, with little practice, can be done by a blind person. Deceptively simple, the No -Knots hook opens inexpensive "self -tying' angling to small children, arthritic elderly and otherwise Bands -and -finger impaired individuals of all ages. Demanding considerably less time and complexity to leader attachment than its predecessor designs, the No - Knots hook's climatic usefulness is not impaired by darkness and cold weather. Since 't is easily spaced to ex- act plastic worm and minnow lengths. it also makes an effective gang rig. The T-shaped projection acts as a stammer and the ioop serves as an ex- cellent worm retainer, allowing the small, abrupt barb to twist upward in trolling for quick penetration into the hard upper jaw, an especially signifi- cant feature in soft -mouth fish such as the large mouth bass. The No -Knots rig, which includes soft -wire utilization for sharp -tooth species such as the Northern Pike and Muskie, places the rear hook behind the tail of the bait fish while securing and holding its head. Thus, the chances of hooking the predatory game fish are in- creased when, as is its tendency, it tries to cripple the minnow by biting its tail in feigning an over -the -head attack. In addition, the No -Knots hook's tempered sharpness and barb design can be engineered to spinner and lure specifications also. The hooks range in size from a small size 10 to a large size 6/0. They range in finish from bronze and cadmium to steel blue. The No -Knots Fish Hooks are offered by Highland Enterprises, Star Route, Box 24, Kane, PA, 16735. A sample pack of hooks is offered for $2.00 U.S. funds and a self-addressed envelope. If you've ever had trouble tying knots because of cold weather or darkness, then a few of these would be indispensi- ble in your tackle box. I don't know if they're in full production for manufac- turing them yet, but the sample pack available might be just the thing for emergencies. Give it a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
