HomeMy WebLinkAboutClinton News-Record, 1987-06-10, Page 5Sixty attend Stephenson • reunion BRUCEFIELD - The 57th annual Stephen- son reunion was held on May 31 at Huron Centennial School with 60 people in attendance. After registration and. coffee hour was held, the president, Ralph Metcalfe, welcomed all to the picnic, and then in- troduced the program. Three musical selec- tions were sung by Joyce Dowson, Brenda Consitt and Debbie Rathwell accompanied by Mona Stephenson on the piano. Two piano selections were played by Amy Met- calfe. Elva Sanders and Eileen Consitt each gave a reading. After the program everyone took part in a smorgasbord meal. Following the supper, business was conducted. The minutes were read by secretary -treasurer Debbie Rathwell. It was moved by Bill Taylor and seconded by Leonard Metcalfe that the minutes be adopted. After a brief discussion it was agreed to continue the reunion which will be held on May 29, 1988. A musical program again will . be planned. A ball game is to take place for the first time after the supper and sports. Family members had a moments silence for those who have passed away since the last reunion. Elections were held, with Bill Taylor elected as president for the next two years. Debbie Rathwell will remain as secretary - treasurer. Brenda Wright and Jean Rathwell will conduct the sports program. Contests and races were conducted by ,Joyce Boussey and Cathy Paterson. A contest "Meet Your Relative" was en- joyed by all with Barbara Talbot, Jody Hor- ton, Melody Turner, Shelli Stephenson, David Turner, Anna McConnell, Mona Stephenson, Jean Ratnwell, Brenda Wright and Don Rathwell all winners. Mona Stephenson and Cathy Paterson tied for the correct number of jelly beans in the jar. Races were held outside with Danny Rathwell coming in first and Laura Wright second running in the 5 and under group.) A wheel barrow race was held for all ages with Jason Metcalfe and David Rathwell coming in first, Greg Metcalfe and Jason Welsh second, and Melody Turner and Jody Horton third. A three-legged race for all ages with Melody Turner and Jody Horton first, Cheryl Stephenson and Cynthia Welsh se- cond and Amy Metcalfe and Suzanne Stephenson coming in third. Running races that were held were .Jason Metcalfe first, and Clayton Boussey second. Shelley Stpehenson first and Melody Turner, second in the girl races. A candy scramble was held for all the ages. Hope to see everyone out next year and remember to bring your ball glove. Mary Mills as guest minister. Edward Deeves and Jenny Miller presented the offering. Following the church service Ray Wise, Synod Delegate, gave his report on Synod. Nature Walk Sunday afternoon, 26 gathered for the nature walk organized by Paul Aldwinkle at Bannockburn Wildlife Area. John Deeves, representing the Ausable Bayfield Conser- vation Authority, welcomed everyone and gave nut maps and plastic bags for waste. Paul Aldwickle read the history of the park and off everyone went, over bridges, up hills and down hills. The scenery was beautiful, the ferns were a sight to see. Following the trek all participants headed to Dean and Phyllis Aldwickle's farm where they rested and had lunch including ice cream cones for children of all ages. A guessing game was held on how many jelly beans were in the jar. Estelle Wise was the winner with the exact number - 92. Ralph Welsh, on behalf of everyone (hank - ed Paul. Phyllis and Dean for the great afternoon. The ACW of St. James' Middleton Church will meet in the Church Hall on June 11 at 8 p.m. Please bring articles for the fun auction. The congregation of St. James' Middleton wishes Ruby Fitzsimmons a happy birthday. St. James' ('hurch is sponsoring a bus trip to the Ontario Agricultural Museum and Railroad Museum near Milton on .June 29. Dinner will be at Angie's Kitchen, St. Agatha. The Hensall Kinettes are sponsoring a co- ed ball tournament on July 4 and 5 at the Hensall Community Centre. Mixed teams of 16 adults are needed for this fun tourna- ment.
