Page 12—CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3, 1987 fellowship andfriendship Clinton and area obituaries Harold Wiggins Harold Wiggins, of Five Seasons Estate, Bayfield and formerly of Kapuskasing, died in the Clinton Public Hospital on May 25. He was 67 years old. Mr. Wiggins was born in Aneriod, Saskat- chewan to the late Henry and Elizabeth Ann (Hanunell) Wiggins on July 3, 1919. On Oc- tober 4, 1944 he married the former Lucy Waldron in Cochrane, Ontario. Mr. Wiggins was a buyer in the purchas- ing department of Spruce Falls Pulp and Paper before he retired. He was also af- filiated with St. James Anglican Church, Middleton. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Randy 1 Linda) Richelh of London, and three grandchildren, Dwight, Shaun and Candice. Mr. Wiggins is also survived by four sisters, Hazel Elliott of Calgary, Velma Olson of Devils Lake N.D, Irene Howard of Sarnia and Shirley Davis of Trenton. He was predeceased by three sisters. A funeral and committal service was held at the Ball and Falconer Chapel, Clinton, on May 28 with Rev. Aubrey Bell of St. James Middleton officiating. Cremation at Woodland Crematorium, London, with interment of ashes in Little Lake Cemetery, Peterborough. Esther Kendall Esther Kendall, of Clinton, died in the Clinton Public Hospital on May 30. She was 83 years old. Mrs. Kendall was born on December 11, 1903 to the late Charles and Mary Ann I Pot - ter I Pilgrim in Varna. On June 7, 1922 she married Norman East in Varna and the cou- ple farmed in Hullett Township until his death in 1947. On May 21, 1949 she married Gerald Ken- dall in the Presbyterian manse in Clinton. The couple then moved to Detroit where Mr. Kendall was employed. After his death in 1967, Mrs. Kendall returned to Clinton to take up residence. In 1983 she moved to the Maple Grove Lodge in Goderich where she stayed for one year. In October, 1984, she moved to Huronview. Mrs. Kendall was a member of the On- tario Street United Church and a past member of the Huonic Rebekah Lodge and a past member of the LOBA. Mrs. Kendall is survived by one son, Mur- ray East and his wife Gladys of Clinton. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Lin- da and Edward Collins of Sarnia, Janet and Richard Amyotte of Petawawa and Sharon East of Sarnia, as well as five great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Wesley (Marguerite) Hunking of London and Mrs. Charles (Annie) East of Huronview. She was predeceased by two sisters and four brothers. A funeral and committal service was held at the' Ball and Falconer Chapel, Clinton, on June 1 with Rev. David Woodall officiating. Harvey Alexander MacDougall Harvey Alexander MacDougall, of Bayfield, died at University Hospital in London on Monday, May 25 at the age of 82. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 4, 1905, he was the son of the late Roderick Mac- Dougall and the former Rose Smith. His wife, the former Doris Soden of Bayfield, survives. Mr. MacDougall was employed with Co - Operators Insurance as Divisional Manager until his retirement. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Church in Bayfield. Seventeen Surviving besides his wife are: sister Blanche (Mrs. Jack Needham) of Lucknow; brother Lloyd MacDougall of Lucknow; and Clair MacDougall of Mississauga. Five nieces and two nephews and several grandnieces and nephews also survive. Mr. MacDougall was predeceased by one brother Russell of Wells, B.C., and his parents. Visitation was held at the MacKenzie and McCleath Funeral Home in Lucknow on Tuesday, May 26. A memorial service from St. Andrew's United Church in Bayfield was held on May 27 with Rev. J. Hoekstra of St. Andrew's United Church in Bayfield officiating. The June meeting is to be the usual date, June 18 at Bess Finglands' home. Supper will be served by the hostess and a good at- tendance is hoped for. Rosie Armstrong read the scripture lessonfollowed by an interesting reading by CLINTON - The May meeting of Wesley - Willis afternoon meeting was held May 21 in the church parlor. Helen Rathwell gave the treasurer's report and called the roll. There were 17 present. Marg Cole read the minutes of. the April meeting. Kathleen Whitemore conducted the business of the day mentioning several up - Helen Rathwell. Jnis was iuiiuned by prayer by Olive Ball. Mabel Middleton then gave a resume of the winter spent in Mexico. She enjoyed the change of climate and the friendly people. Her talk was greatly enjoyed by all. Helen Rathwell thanked her for giving of her tirne and telling of an interesting winter in Mex- ico. The meeting closed with the Mizpak Benediction. 4-H judging competition results CLINTON - Steven Beane, RR 1, Brucefield won the United Co-operatives of Ontario Trophy for being the 4-H member with the highest score at the annual 4-H Judging Competition. Steve also. won the Cyanamid of Canada Award for being the High Intermediate Judge. One hundred and thirteen 4-H members 111111111.. ENGAGEMENT ENGAGEMENT from across Huron County participated in the competition held on May 23 in Clinton. The competitors judged and gave oral reasons on hay, dairy, cows, horses, eggs and gate signs. They also wrote two quizzes. Sandra Shelley, RR 2, Gorrie won the CIL Trophy as High Senior Judge, and Scott Johnston, RR 2, Bluevale won the 4-H Club Leaders' Award as Top Junior. In second place in their classes were: Novice - Sean Melady, No. 5, Seaforth; Junior - Darren Johnston, No. 2, Bluevale; Intermediate - Audrey Bos, No. 3, Auburn; Senior - Jim Campbell, No. 5, Seaforth. Old eyeglasses wanted CLINTON - Employees of the post office here choose a charity to support each year, as a special project. In the past they have supported the Cancer Society and the Muscular Dystrophy Research Association. This year Canada Post has chosen the Evangelical Missionary Medical Aid Socie- ty I EMMAS). This society strives to provide eyeglasses to under-provileged in the Third World countries. The employees of the Clinton Post Office are seeking the help of their community in collecting used eyeglasses. Anyone having used eyeglasses to donate may leave them at the post office. Sorority reveals secret CLINTON - The members of Hi Epsilon Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held their final meeting before the summer break at the home of Nancy Klomps on May 26. A potluck supper began the evening. The roll call question was to guess your secret sister. Most admitted they had no idea. The committee heads thanked their members for their support and help. A letter was read from Sharon Cox re-. questing funding for Talking Books available at the Public Library. This will be discussed in the fall. A thank you was received from the Clinton Hospital for the donation. Marj Dobson, Mary Marsh and Linda Meade were given perfect attendance charms. Rita VanDyke was given the presi- dent's gavel guard and thanked for her ef- forts as president. A table cloth for rituals and a "travelling" coffee mug were presented to the members forming a Preceptor chapter in the fall. The rnug will alternate between members of the two chapters to encourage continuing contact. The business meeting concluded with the installation of offices for 1987-88. The members then exchanged Secret Sister gifts sisters amid discussion and laughter about how the secrets were kept over the year. Later the group gathered around a bonfire and the secret wish, dream or ambition of each woman was read. Everyone tried to guess whose wish it was.
