Submit your
best printing,
writing, art
or poetry
In the "old" days, there seemed to be
more emphasis put on printing and writing
neatly than there is today, but one group
that still believes in the importance of good
penmanship is the spring fair organizers.
Printing, writing, art and poetry will be
judged at the fair again.
Students from kindergarten to Grade 3
will be asked to print specific verses with
pencil.
Those in Grades 4 to 8 are to write
specific verses. t These verses can be
found on pages 46 - 47 in the Clinton Spring
Fair booklet). Those in Grade 4 are asked
to use a pencil while the others may use a
pen.
In the art division, each grade has been
given a specific topic and media in which
to create an award winning drawing or
design.
Those who take pride in keeping a neat
notebook can have a chance to show off at
the spring fair as well.
Grade 3 and 4 students are to submit a
science notebook and Grades 5 to 8 are to
submit their French notebook. All books
must be 75 per cent completed and each
grade will be judged individually.
If writing or drawing isn't exactly where
your talents lie, then perhaps the craft
competition would be more to your liking.
Once again, each grade is to create a
specific item: kindergarten - 3D kite using
any media, not larger than 30 cm; Grade 1
- sticker collection; Grade 2 - styrofoam
cup creation; Grade 3 - collage on
buildings; Grade 4 - collage of bilingual
food labels; Grade 5 - make a butterfly, ap-
proximately 25 cm in width with tissue
paper and pipe cleaners; Grade 6 - clown
head with any media; Grade 7 and 8 girls -
make something useful from something
useless; Grade 7 and 8 boys - make a
creative totem pole approximately 30 cm
high.
The poetry contest has three divisions.
Those in Grade 1,2 and 3 are asked to write
a four line rhyming poem; Grades 4, 5 and
6 are to write a nonsense rhyme up to 12
lines; Grades 7 and 8 are to write a poem
about anything that is at least 12 lines long.
And if none of these entice you, how
about the creative writing contest? Using
a pencil, Grade 1 students are asked to wir-
ting a creative paragraph, about eight
lines long, that begins, "When we went to
MacDonald's..."
Grade 2 students are to write a story on
My Best Day and those in Grade 3 are to
write a paragraph of at least five
sentences beginning with, "When I heard
the fire siren..."
The rules and regulations state that only
three entries are allowed from each class.
They also say entries must be in by 5 p.m.
on June 3.
So, if you haven't had a class enter this
year, keep it in mind for next year. It'll
give the students that little extra push to
do well.
