truce Shillinglaw leads Londesboro United

LONDESBORO - Greeting members to
the United Church here on May 24 was Jim
Jameison.
The ushers were Dennis Penfound, Gor-
don Shobbrook, John Hoggart and Don
McGregor.
With Rev. Snihul<' attending the London
Conference in Sault Ste. Marie, the service
was lead by Bruce Shillinglaw. He welcom-
ed all, and gave the call to worship along
with the following announcements. The
flowers in the church were in memory of
Evelyn Brown of Chatham, the mother of
Mary Peel. She died at 87. The junior youth
group are having a 15 hour rock-a-thon at
the church from 7 p.m. on May 29 to 10 p.m.
on May 30. On June 7 the Seaforth Harmony
Kings will be leading the church in worship.
Children's time was given by Harriett
Shillinglaw. She demonstrated the planting
of seeds, and explained that without orator
they would die. The junior teachers wore
Kim Wright, Rhonda Howatt and Greg
McClinchey.
The scripture reading and a prayer were
given by Marg Anderson. The anthem was a
duet by the Anderson girls, Glenyce and
Helen, accompanied by Gail Lear. The ser-
mon was by Bruce Shillinglaw.
Cheerio Club
The Cheerio Club met on May 20 at the
home of Mary Longman. She welcomed all
with a reading.
A reading was then given by Vietta Hog-
gart. The minutes of the last meeting and
the treasurer's report were given by Dora
Shobbrook.
Roll call was answered by 11 people.
In correspondence, an appeal was receiv-
ed from the Lung Association. The club had
donated in January.
The draw donated by June Fothergill was
won by Margaret Good.
The June meeting of group 4 will be held
at the home of Edythe Beacom.
Mary Longman gave another reading
before the Cheerio members presented a
card and gift to Vi Burns, a member who is
moving to Clinton. Vi thanked the group and
invited there to come and visit.
A sympathy card was signed for the
Bosman family.
A contest for Flying a dip-er-do was won by
Florence Vivian and Beth Knox.
Cards were played before lunch was serv-
ed by Mary Longman and Vietta Hoggart.
Recital
The step dancing recital for the students
of Cheryl Bromley has been rescheduled for
May 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Hullett Central
School.
They hope many will share this reschedul-
ed evening with Cheryl and the children.
Personals
Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Peel and family on the death of Mary's
mother, Evelyn Brown, on May 20. She died
in Chatham at the age of 87.,
Sympathy is extended to the family of
Robert Vella. He died at the age of 29 on
May 18 at CFB Lahr, Germany. He was
brought home for the funeral that was held
at St. Marks Chapel in Greenwood, Nova
Scotia. Attending the funeral from here
were his mother, Joy Vodden, his sister
Debbie and Ian Hulley, Crystal and
Kimberley, his aunt Dorothy Johnston, and
his sister Cathy Vella of Toronto.
Helen Anderson of Toronto, Glenyce Hut -
ter, Steven and Geoffrey of St. Augustine
spent the weekend with their parents, Dave
and Marg Anderson. The mother returned
home with Helen to Toronto for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Crysler of Chatham
visited on May 24 with her brother Jack and
Dorothy Tamblyn.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Carter and Tonya of
Simcoe spend several days last week with
his parents Doreen and Glen Carter. Colleen
Carter of Exeter was also home for the
weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Kevan Broome with their
sons Adam and Wade of Egmondville
visited with her parents Glen and Doreen
Carter. They also visited with her brother,
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Carter.
On May 21 the Benmiller and Kinburn
Lady Forrester lodges held their annual bir-
thday party at Kinburn. The Kinburn ladies
served a salad supper. Anna Dohnage show-
ed and commented on her display of
depresssion glass and gave the crowd tips
on what to look for when buying. They
played court shist and the winners were:
Isabelle Eedy, high; Phyllis Fisher, low;
Anna Dolmage, Eleanor Fisher, Deloris
Howatt, door prizes.
A large number of people enjoyed the an-
nual fireworks display sponsored by the
Hullett Recreation Committee on May 24.
The show was held at the Hullett Central
School grounds.
Beth Knox visited on May 24 with her
daughter Cindy Swan in London.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson, along with
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee spent the weekend
with Bob's aunt Mrs. Annie Thompson at
Clarkesburg. They also visited Thornburg.
Lloy and Dirk Garlichs of Waterloo visited
on the weekend with her parents Ruth and
Allen Shaddick.

BELGRAVE - Mr. Vincent Makas and
Alicia of London spent the weekend with
Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler.
A large number of people enjoyed the Cold
Meat Supper on May 23 in the Women's In-
stitute Hall which was sponsored by Calvin -
Brick United Church of East Wawanosh
Township.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby spent the
holiday weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Gary
Leitch, Julie and Jeff of Waterdown.
Friends and neighbors of this area wish to
epress sincere sympathy to Sara Anderson
in`the recent loss of her two sisters, Hazel
Young and Ella Green of West Port.
Elizabeth Hunkin of Teeswater, Mr. and
. Mrs. Harvey Edgar and Don Edgar
Wingham visited on Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Cortes of Tavistock.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson spent the
holiday weekend at Lakefield with Mr. and
Mrs. Rob Roy and Christina who celebrated
her first birthday May 18.
Mr. and Mrs. Joel Arkell and boys have
recently purchased and moved into the
home previously owned by Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Matiz of Belgrave.
About 30 Edgar relatives met at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Edgar and Don on
May 18. Those present were from, Brigden,
Petrolia, Toronto, Tavistock, Lucknow,
Blyth, Wingham and Belgrave.
A large number of relatives, neighbors
and friends gathered at the Women's In-
stitute Hall on May 24 to offer congratula-
tions to Clara Rinn of Blyth in honor of her
80th birthday on May 23.
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Storer, Adam and
Crystal of Kitchener and Kim and Darryl
Mayberry of Londesboro spent the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna.
Mr. and Mrs. Storer and Mr.,and Mrs.
Hanna attended the 45th weddinanniver-
sary of Mr. and Mrs. Almer Mayberry of
Listowel on May 23.
Ruth Coyne of Windsor visited on the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Taylor and other Robinson relatives.
Ken Kirkham of Windsor visited with

The Walton Women's Institute meeting
was held in the hall Wednesday, May 20.
President, Helen Craig chaired the
meeting reading a poem, "It's up to you"
following, the opening exercise.
Several items of business were brought
up from the minutes read by Margaret
Shortreed. In the correspondence thank
you cards were read. A letter from the
Huron County Public Library brought a
donation. It was moved that card tables or
chairs not leave the hall, long tables and
coffee perk to be rented out. Viola Kirkby
and Ruth Axtmann gave reports from the
District Annual they attended recently at
Fordwich.
Next Thursday is the Dessert Euchre,
each member to take one large or two
small desserts. Price is set at $3 to begin at
7 p.m. Hall projects were discussed.
Volunteers to look into pricing storm win-
dows.

There was a good report of the turkey
luncheon held at noon, with a pork lun-
cheon planned for Wednesday, June 17.
Ruth Axtmann convenor of Family and
Consumer Affairs gave items on having it
all and rural stress ending with a poem,
"Recipe for a happy family".
The meeting closed with the Institute
Grace followed by lunch served by Viola
Kirkby and Berva Watson.
ABOUT PEOPLE
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Kirkby and Viola
Kirkby attended the wedding of Mark
Kirkby and Sherry McLellan at the Knox
Presbyterian Church, Woodstock on Satur-
day, May 16. Mark is the son of Herb
Kirkby.
Sunday evening guests with Ray and
Margery Huether were Gerald and Ruth
McArter, Brussels.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall, Mrs. Bev
Stevenson, Ron and Chris visited on Sun-
day afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Warren
Currie and family and Edna Currie of
Hamilton.
The Walton Area Sports Club wants to
Michelle and Danielle Thompson of
Lucknow.
On May 19 Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Cook and
Mr. and Mrs. Greg Cook had a most en-
joyable surprise visit from Mr. and Mrs.
Rob Henning and Mr. and Mrs. Hubot Kratz.
Brown Swiss Breeders, from the Bavarian
region of West Germany.
The visitors were interested in looking at
the cattle, asking about Canadian breeding
lines and comparing German Swiss with
Canadian Swiss. They use several American
blood lines as well.
It was a most interesting evening, com-
paring farming practices near the Alps in
the Bavarian region, complete with snap
shots. breed brochures and so on.

CHURCH NEWS
Mrs. Ward, Wingham took the morning
service on Sunday at Duff's United Church
in the absence of Rev. Lamble who attend-
ed the annual meeting of London Con-
ference from Thursday till Sunday.
Margery Huether and Phyllis Mitchell pro-
vided the music prelude prior to the
service.

Bus Trip
Ted and June Fothergill, Beth Knox and
Jean Scott enjoyed a two day bus trip with
Leisure Tours on May 21-22.
They travelled to Beaver Valley where
they had dinner and then they spent the
night at the Palsma Hotel in Kimberley.
The points of interest on the trip were the
Welbeck Sawmill, Participation Lodge,
Derts Glen, Eugenia Falls, a trout farm and
an apple orchard.
