Doc Miller tournament in second year
CLINTON - On May 23-24 the Doc Miller
Tournament will take to the local diamonds
for the second year running.
The tournament was started last year by
Tom Fox to honor Doc Miller, a man who
was very active in minor sports in Clinton
for many years.
As Mr. Fox has moved up to the Bantam
division this year, and this is a Pee Wee
tournament, Percy McClenaghan has taken
over as the event's organizer.
Eight teams of 12 and 13 year olds will be
involved in this two day tournament. Aside
from Clinton's Pee Wee team they will come
from Leamington, Flesherton, Walkerton,
St. Marys, Dashwood, I,ucan and Exeter.
Each team will be guaranteed the oppor-
tunity to play two games, with the winner of
the first game moving to the championship
side, and the loser to the consolation side.
Mr. McClenaghan hopes they will be able
to get eight regular games in on May 23, so
the two championship games can be played
on May 24.
The trophies this year will be donated by
Fleming Feed Mill, with one going to the
champions and one to the consolation
champs.
Arena flooring in place
CLINTON • Many local skaters and
hockey players will be happy to learn that
the new arena floor has been completed.
Although it is a bit late in the season to
protect any skates at this time, the new pad-
ded flooring should prove to be an addded
plus when the next skating season arrives.
It was announced during the Clinton
Recreation C'ommittee's May 14 meeting
that the flooring had been installed in the
lobby, washrooms, and dressing rooms
three and four.
"It is all complete and sealed, it looks rea-
ly good," recreation director Steve Camp-
bell said.
Other maintenance work announced by
the committee included the painting of the
pool.
Mr. Campbell noted that the pool hadn't
been painted since it was built i-_1981, so it
was about time. Over the years, minor touch
ups have been completed.
Sandblasting and regrouting of some
minor chips had to be carried out before the
