Clinton sorority hosts Founders Day
HOLMESVILLE — Beta Sigma Phis from
Clinton, Goderich, Exeter, Seaforth and
Mitchell gathered at the Goderich Township
Hall, April 28, to celebrate their Founder's
Day with a dinner hosted by the Clinton
chapters. This is a traditional celebration
that this year honored the 56th year history
of the largest women's social, service and
cultural organization in the world. There
are 250,000 members active in 32 countries.
Viviene Roy was chairperson of the com-
mittee that organized the local event. The
mistress -of ceremonies for the evening was
Marj Dobson. Lorraine Bell conducted the
ritual at which 14 pledges became Ritual of
Jewels members. The Cental Huron Secon-
dary School Choir provided the musical
entertainment.
For the first time the Clinton Xi Epsilon
Beta Chapter presented the First Lady
Award. It was given to Cela Sloman in
recognition of her outstanding contributions
to her community and province. Her
daughter, Toby Rainey, accepted the award
on her behalf.
On April 14 Xi Epsilon Beta Chapter met
at the home of Judy Stuart. The proceeds
from the Ken Whitley concert and the plant
sale will enable the chapter to donate $1,000
to the Clinton Public Hospital Building
Fund.
Sally McNichol reported on the disaster
meeting she attended March 31. A list was
passed for members to indicate how they
could help in an emergency. Sandra
Balfour, Marj Dobson and Mary Marsh will
act as contact persons.
Audrey Kemp and Marj Dobson offered to
attend the meeting on Violence in the Home
at the high school on April 21.
Following the business meeting, everyone
participated in a game of volleyball at On-
tario Street United Church. Judy made sure
effort was recognized and much laughter
generated when she gave out special
awards, each uniquely handcrafted. Vi-
vienne Roy won the Best Dressed Player
Award; Ann Adams won the Most Colorful
Footwear Award; Marie Black the Spike
Award; Audrey Kemp the Broken Nail
Award; and Marj Dobson the Most En-
thusiastic Player Award.

Fashion show raises X900
CLINTON - On April 21 the Zeta Omega
Sorority memebers met at the home of
Kathy Chambers. The roll call question was
what is your greatest fear(s)?
Some discussions took place regarding the
April 7 meeting which was the Springtime
'87 Fashion Show held at the Goderich
Township Hall. The successful evening
involved children, women and
male models and several businesses in
the local area. It was estimated that approx-
imately $900 was raised to donate to the
Clinton Hospital Fund. However, all
outstanding bills were not in yet. The sorori-
ty should be commend for all their work for
this event.
Lorraine Bell outlined to the members a
community disaster program involvement
with the sister sorority. Members were ask-
ed to list disaster services they could pro-
vide. Mother's Day Brunch will be held at
Robindale's in Goderich on May 9.
On May 13 there will be a microwave
demonstration at the Ontario Street United
Church.
Sohrine Carr asked rl'fembers to assist in
the selling of the Klompenfeest trip -of -the -
month draw tickets. Each member was ask-
ed to make an effort to sell at least one
ticket.
Kathy's program was an interesting and
exciting account of white water rafting on
the Ottawa River. Her presentation includ-
ed a video of the different packages and
styles of rafting 'offered to thrill -seeking
adventurers!
New officers for the 1987-88 year are as
follows: president - Lorraine Bell, vice
president - Liz Herman, corresponding
secretary = Dagmar Crawford, recording
secretary - Caron Snihur, treasurer - Marion
Durst.
On April 28, Founder's Day dinner and
program was held at the Goderich Township
Hall. The 'evening involved the attendance
of several sororities in the surrounding
area, socializing, a hot dinner put on by the
ladies at the Goderich Hall, and an evening
of door prizes, women of the year awards,
and entertainment by the Central Huron
Secondary School choir.
The women of the year for Zeta Omega
went to Donna Woodall. A special thanks to
all those who were involved in the prepara-
tion of this successful evening.
The next meeting will be held May 12 at
the home of 1„,iz Herman.
4-11 Sewing Club meets

LONDESBORO - The fourth meeting of
the Londesboro 9-H Sewing Plus Club was
held on April 27 at the home of Darlene
Hulley.
The meeting was opened with the 4-H
pledge and the minutes of the last meeting
were read.
The roll call was taken with a quiz on sew-
ing equipment and business was discussed.
The members decided to call the club The
Cutting Crew, and they discussed the
achievement night.
During the meeting, the topics discussed
included how to construct the pockets and
sew them to the shirt, and also how to fit the
shirt. Facings, collars and cuffs were also
discussed along with topstitching and dif-
ferent kinds of hems.
The next meeting is to be held on May 4 at
7 p.m. at the home of Joanne Campschroer.
Mary Holland wins
Thursday night euchre was held in the
Walton Community hall with 12 tables in
play. Winners were: high lady, Mary
Holland; low lady, Alice Stevens; high man,
Bill McLelland; low man, Jack McEwing;
special, Nora Kelly.
Hostesses were Women's Institute
members, Ruth Artmann and Margery
Huether. A dessert euchre will be held May
28 to end the season.(�
• DUFF'S NEWS
A prelude of violin and organ music open-
ed the morning service Sunday at Duff's
United provided by Phyllis Mitchell and
Margery Huether. Greeters were Ian and
Elva Wilbee. Offering was received by Mar-
tin Baan and Ross Bennett.
The Rev. Bonnie Lamble conducted the
Junior Choir when they sang an anthem.
The sermon was "Recognizing the Signs."
Ron Stevenson read scriptures. Don
McDonald sang a solo.
In the announcements, the following were
noted: next Sunday, May 10, Christian
Family Sunday; confirmation class will
meet in the afternoon at 2:15 p.m.; youth
group to meet at Bluevale at 7:30 p.m.
It was Music, Music, Music presented by
the Grey -Bruce singers on Sunday afternoon
when a large crowd were present to hear
their hour and a half of lively music.
Held in the auditorium of Duff United
Church, sponsored by the United Church
Women, a choir of over 30 ladies and men
was directed by Dianne Leith. Dianne later
sang a duet with Chris Patterson as pianist
accompanist.
Heather Redden accompanied with the
synthesizer for the afternoon of music.
The Rev. Bonnie Lamble welcomed them
and Marion Godkin thanked them for shar-
ing their music. Thegroup was later served
refreshments.
BOARD MEETING
Sunday evening the Board meeting was
held at the home of Ron and Betty Mc-
Callum with 11 members and two guests
present.
PEOPLE ViSIT
Mr. and Mrs. Alister McIntosh of Avon -
bank visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Emerson Mitchell.
Brad Moore of Seaforth was a weekend
guest with Chris Stevenson.
Eva McGill is novelty lady

BELGRA — Eleven tables were in
play at the weekly euchre which was held in
the WI Hall on April 29.
Winners were: high lady - Mrs. Herb
Clayton; novelty lady - Eva McGill; low
lady - Olive Fullar; lucky draw lady - Janisa
Coultes; high man - Mrs. Adams; novelty
man - Mrs. Garner Nicholson; low man -
Iona McLean; lucky draw man - Stanley
Black.
There will be euchre again this Wednes-
day starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
Mrs. Malchom McCannon of Islington is
spending a week with her cousins Mr. and
Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse and also Visiting
Mrs. Alf Lockridge who is a patient in the
Wingharn and District Hospital.
Raymond Petrie and friend of Herkimer,
New York, visited with Yuill relatives on the
weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hunter visited on Sun-
day with her mother, Mary Bonham of
Brantford.
Kevin Procter spent Friday and Saturday
with his grandmother, Elizabeth Proctor.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Zettler, Sherry and
twins Amanda and Alicia of RR 4 Walkerton
visited on May 4 at the home,of Elizabeth
Procter.
Mr. and Mrs. Americo Arruda and
Michelle of Fergus visited on Sunday with
her mother, Dorothy Logan.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Vincent and Carrie -
Ann of Milton visited with his parents Mr.
and Mrs. Leslie Vincent on May 4.
Mrs. Malchom McCannon of Islington is
spending the weekend with their cousins Mr.
and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse.
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Vincent spent Sathr-
day with their daughter and son-in-law Mr.
and Mrs. Doug Mitchell, Scott and Jeff of
Hanover.
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Campbell attended
the wedding of their nephew, Douglas
Gurnett to Nancy Darvid in the Windsor
Presbyterian Church on April 25.
Cooking Demo
A large crowd enjoyed a microwave cook-
ing demonstration presented by Shirley
Couillard of Kitchener at the WI Hall on
April 27.
The president, Isabel Campbell, gave out
several door prizes and everyone had a
chance to sample the food and purchase
recipe books.
The proceeds will help to pay for a new
roof on the hall.
