This family was that of will and Mynte (Gerrits) Kolknan from Den Ham, Vroomshoop. The pair, along with their children; Sandra, 10, Bill, 8, Bert, 5 and Jane, 3, left Holland on May 16, 1950 and landed in Halifax shortly thereafter. Mrs. Kolkman has fond memories of their trip across on the ship called the SS Volendam. "The sea was calm, it was a nice trip," she said, later ad- ding that although the sea was calm, her husband was seasick throughout the trip.
