The Klompen Feest parade has always been a crowd pleaser and this year's promises to live up to its well earned reputation. One of the several marching bands in the parade will be The Central Band of The Canadian Armed Forces. During the last two years this band has performed in Germany, Holland and Belgium while on a European tour of NATO countries. They have also performed in Middle East Cyprus, Nicosia and Kyrenia. Closer to home, they have been at Hamilton Place, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Toronto, Niagra Falls, London, Sarnia, Ottawa, Sudbury and Peterborough. The Central Band's investitures include the Order of Canada, Order Of Military Merit and National Bravery Awards. One important item to take notice of for this year's parade is the time change. The parade will begin this year at 11 a.m. According to one of the parade organizers, Ruth Blair, this time change was made in an attempt to attract more people. However, the parade route will remain the same as in past years - star- ting at the Clinton Arena, down Mill Street, right on to Highway 4, left on to John Street, left on Shipley, left on Princess West, right on Highway 4, left on William Street and back to the arena. Once the parade is over, be sure to head for the grandstand and listen to the Guelph Royalaires Band. Their performance will begin at 1 p.m. Then, at 1:20 p.m., the official opening ceremonies will take place with the Ambassador of the Netherlands, who is stationed in Ottawa, doing the honors. And of course, with him will be other local dignitaries.
