Beards, barbers
and barbecues
are part of auction
Frank Szusz, Chairperson for the Blyth and District Community Centre Board, donated
something very close to himself for the auction, his beard. Over $160 was raised through
the beard cutting and hair trimming, carried out by Arnold Riley.
There was a good turnout at the Blyth Arena on April 25 when the
Blyth Legion Ladies Auxiliary hosted a dinner and auction to raise
funds for a handicapped lift. The lift is to be installed in the com-
munity centre. Here, three of the event's organizers grouped
together around one 91 the highest priced objects to be sold, a gas
barbecue. They are (from the left): Kay Hesselwood, chairperson
of the auction committee; Janice Henry, president of the auxiliary;
Mildred Ament, caterer for the dinner. Over $2,000 was raised from
the auction alone.
One of the early items to be auctioned off was this beautiful afghan. While Dave Overboc
(left) and Bob Battye displayed the item, auctioneer Burt Lobb called for bids.
Some extra funds were raised during the
auction when one of the arena managers,
Murray Black, donated his hair for auction-
ing. Clinton barber Arnold Riley carried out
the trimming.
Prior to the auction taking place prospective buyers were given the opportunity, to look
over the goods to he auctioned off before deciding what they would like to purchase.
