WI has successfol year

BELGRAVE - The annual meeting of the
Belgrave Women's Institute was held in the
WI Hall on April 21 with a large number in
attendance.
An invitation was extended to everyone to
attend the 4-H Achievement night at Hullett
Central School. This spring's theme is Sur-
viving With Style. It was announced that the
District Annual will be in Blyth on May 25.
The secretary reported on the progress of
the plans being made for a new roof on the
WI hall. Also a cleaning bee is scheduled for
May 11.
The reports that were given by the Stan-
ding Committees indicated a very suc-
cessful year with over 100 functions having
taken place in the local 'hall.
Lois Elliott, District President, gave an
address on the workings of the Federated
Women's Institute and stressed the impor-
tance of good public relations. After declar-
ing all offices vacant, she installed the new
slate of officers for 1987. Past president,
Mrs. Leonard James; president, Mrs. Pete
Campbell; first vice-president, Audrey Fen-
ton; second vice-president, Mrs. Jim
Hunter; secretary -treasurer, Mrs. Glenn'
Coultes; assistant secretary, Mrs. John
McIntosh; district director, Mrs. Leonard
James; alternate director, Mrs. Norman
Coultes; branch directors, Mrs. Richard
Moore; Mrs. Stanley Black, Mrs. Bob Gor-
don; public relations officer, Mrs. Richard
Moore; Curator, Mrs. Ross Taylor; pro-
gram coordinator, Mrs. Clare Van Camp.
Euchre Results
There were six tables in play at the week-
ly euchre which was held in the WI Hall on
April 22. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Gor-
don Louttit; low lady, Mrs. Florence Black;
novelty lady, Olive Bolt; high man, George
Inglis; low man, Stuart Chamney; novelty
man, Mabel Wheeler; lucky draw lady,
Alma Jardine; lucky draw man, Leslie
Vincent.
There will be euchre again this Wednes-
day starting at 8 p.m.
Bridal Shower Held
Approximately 60 friends gathered at the
Women's Institute Hall on April 25, to honor
Ruth Ann Pletch, prior to her marriage in
May.
Mrs. James R. Coultes welcomed the
three honored guests and ushered them to
designated chairs. Mrs. Garner Nicholson
gave three readings which created a jovial
atmosphere for the evening: The address to -
Ruth Ann was read by Olive Bolt.
Two former schoolmates, Mrs. Hugh Love
(Rhonda Fear) of RR 2 Atwood and Mrs.
Peter Westerhout ( Joan Bosman) Exeter,
presented the gifts to the bride -elect. She
was assisted in opening them by her frienu,
Jeanie Fitzpatrick, and the bride's mother,
Mrs. SamrPletch.
Miss Pletch, wearing a pretty pink apron
bedecked with the multi -colored gift bows,
expressed her gratitude to the friends for
Clinton Jr. D.

in charge of the arrangements for the
shower. She stated in her remarks that
although her vocation as a social worker
calls to various areas, her roots are firmly
embedded in her home locality of Belgrave.
Refreshments and a social period con-
cluded the evening.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Durham of Brantford
were weekend visitors with his sister and
brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hunter.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Logan, Kevin and
Trevor of Wyoming visited on Sunday with
his mother, Dorothy Logan.
Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Edgar of Petrolia
visited on Saturday evening with Mr. and
Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse.
The Cotton Giuney's 4-H News
The third meeting of the Belgrave Sewing
Plus Club was held April 14. Members held
their meeting at the Women's Institute Hall
with the 4-H pledge. Cheryl Brine, from the
Ministry of Agriculture and Food, was guest
speaker.
The first part of the meeting, members
learned about sewing machines and how to
take care of them. The leaders then put
them into difficult situations concerning
sewing that they had to overcome.
For the next section, they learned about
using interfacing and then how to make a
collar sample for their booklets.
Following that, members looked at some
seam finishes that they may choose to use
on shirts,
A game of Big Shirt Bingo was played and
the meeting closed with repeating the 4-H
motto.
The fourth meeting of the Belgrave Sew-
ing Plus Club was held April 21 at the same
location. To start the meeting members
identified different sewing tools.
Next members learned the proper way of
making a pocket and applying it to their
shirts.
The leaders then showed how to finish
curved hems, how to make collars and cuffs
.and how to do the hand sewing hem sample.
They answered any questions members
had and the meeting closed with the 4-H
motto.
The drama club from Central Huron Secondary School were busy
on Princess Street East in Clinton on April 25 cleaning the street to
raise funds for their year end production. Approximately $400 was
raised during the two hour venture. Assisting with the road clean-
ing were (left) Lori Brandon, Chris Buurs, Diane Bradshaw, Mark
Ritchie, Julie Ritchie, Steve Lippincott, Linda Hearn and many

Kippen gun club shooters fare well
Another succesful shoot was held Tues-
day, April 14 at the Kippen Gun Club.
The following is a list of shooters and their
scores: Brad Mann - 24, John Glazier - 23, Al
Haskell - 23, Ken Whetham - 21, Paul Lamb -
20, Jim Butcher - 20. Paul Mellor - 19, Bob
Marion Godkin plays organ
Greeting worshippers Sunday morning at
Duff's United Church was Doreen Harkwell.
The organist, Marion Godkin accom-
panied at the piano when the Junior Choir
sang an anthem, 'Love the Lord'. Offering
was received by Howard Hackwell and Mar-
tin Baan. The flowers in the church were in
memory of Trish Clark.
Rev. Lamble took as the sermon, "When
doubts assail us". Ben Hoegy read scripture
lessons.
In the announcements the United Church
Women (UCW) meeting for May, a joint
meeting with both units, has been changed
to Tuesday evening instead of the usual
Wednesday.
The confirmation class met in the church
basement Sunday afternoon. Youth Group
to meet in the evening.
Next Sunday the Grey -Bruce Singers will
put on a concert at the church at 3 p.m. At 8
p.m. there will be board meeting at the
home of Ron and Betty McCallum.

Rev. Lorne Keays' sermon on Sunday at
St. Andrews United Church was called
"Advertisements — Who Believes Them?"
Barb Cooper accompanied the hymns on
the organ.
Following the church service an open
house was held for Bob and Frances
Kinsman who are leaving the area. The Kip -
pen community will be sorry to see them go,
but wish them well in their new abode.
