While the Central Huron Secondary School players (dark jerseys)
might have been out numbered on this play, the end result of their
game against Goderich on April 24 showed which was the better
team. Clinton took the game 2-0, but lost in another way as two of
their players had to be hospitalized. (David Emslie photo)

Local athletes

in London
A small contingent of the Central Huron'
Secondary School (CHSS) track and field
team took part for the first time in the
Forest City Prep Invitational held in London
on April 25.
This is the 10th running of the event and
some 67 schools from all' over Western On-
tario were in attendance with over 1,400
competitors taking part and as many as 80
competitors in many of the events.
Central Huron's competitors did a fine job
considering the level of competition.
The most outstanding performance for the
Redmen was turned in by Vivienne Stephens
who became the first female in the history of
Central Huron to break the 13 second bar-
rier in the 100 meter, running a 12.9 second
clocking and finishing third out of 82 com-
petitors in the midget girls event.
Vivienne followed up that performance by
setting a new school record as well in the 200
meter event with a very good 26.4 second
clocking and second place in that event.
Derek Bradshaw also had a very good day
finishing third in the midget boys 800 meter
with a good time of 2 minutes, 14 seconds.
Derek also set a new school record of 56.6
seconds in the midget 400 meter finishing
first in his heat.
Ming Lee set a new school record in the
Senior 1500 meter finishing eighth in his
event with a time of 4 minutes, 25.8 seconds.
Other top ten performances included Lisa
Beattie with a fifth in the midget girls high
jump with a 1.45 meter effort and Mike Cor-
rie a sixth in the midget boys event with a
1.65 meter effort.
Good performances were also turned in by
Steven Souch in the junior 1500 meter with a
4 minute, 31 second time and a 17th place
finish. Steve also placed 12th with a 2
minute, 9.5 second time in the 800 meter.
Lisa Beattie was 13th in the 100 meter with
a 13.7 second, clocking and 12th in the long
jump with a 4.04 meter effort. Susan
Govenlock ran a very good 400 meter event
with a time of 65.6 seconds a personal best.
Steve Hearn had a 12.1 clocking in the 100
meter and a 24.5 time in the 200 meter. Steve
Dolmage produced a 4.88 meter jump in the
long jump to finish in the top 20 in that event.
Congratulations to all the competitors for
fine efforts on a cold and fairly windy day.
The next meet will be Tillsonburg on April
29 and then the Huron -Perth Championships
on May 5 and 6 at Goderich.
