THIMET`
THE EFFECTIVE,
ECONOMICAL BEAN
INSECTICIDE THAT WON'T
WASH OFF IN THE RAIN.
Lion't let insects get a head start on your bean
crop. Apply granular Thimet 15-G when you
plant and enjoy excellent protection against
Mexican bean beetles, leafhoppers, aphids, lygus
bugs, thrips and mites. Thimet goes to work from
the roots on up through the entire plant, and unlike
foliar sprays, won't wash away when it rains.

More than 3,100 Ontario volunteers
nominated by nearly 850 local organizations
throughout the province presented
with Volunteer Service Awards at 20
ceremonies to be held betweentjlate April
and the end of May, the Honorable Lily
Munro, Minister of Citizenship and Culture,
announced.
"This is the third year my Ministry has
honored the continuing commitment of On-
tario's volunteers through these awards,"-
Dr. Munro said. "The number of award reci-
pients this year indicates that the program
is enthusiastically embraced by the
volunteer sector.
"The Volunteer Service Awards recognize
the selfless devotion of volunteers to making
Ontario a better place in which to live," the
Minister said. "The work of these valuable
citizens enriches and energizes the very
heart of our communities and our province.
Too often, we forget to simply say thank
you."
Dr. Munro will personally attend many of
the 20 ceremonies to present trillium -shaped
bronze, silver and goldtone lapel pins and
personalized certificates acknowledging
five, 10 or 15 and more years of service con-
• tributed to volunteer organizations.
"The volunteers we are honoring have
contributed countless hours to their work
without any thought of glory or personal
reward. A number have dedicated as many
as 50 years and more to their organiza-
tions," Dr. Munro said.
The recipients of the awards work a broad
spectrum of local non-profit organizations
that fall within the sphere of the Ministry of
Citizenship and Culture. They include arts
groups, heritage conservation agencies,
public libraries, community information
services, multicultural groups,
ethnocultural groups, citizenship services,
and programs by and for native groups.
"Voluntarism is a dynamic societal force
in our province that must not be overlook-
ed," the Minister said. "These men and
women bring a diversity of talent and ex-
perience to their organizations and enhance
the caring and compassionate society of
which we are all so proud.
"It is primarily through local volunteer
agencies such as these that we are able to
- identify the changing needs of our com-
munities and respond quickly," she said.
The ceremonies commence April 26 with
the Toronto awards presentation to kick off
the celebration of Ontario Volunteer Week,
held April 26 to May 2 this year.

Gardeners
discuss flowers
CLINTON — On April 6 the Junior
Gardeners held their second monthly
meeting at the Slomans' house. They talked
about different flowers and where they
came from.
Twenty-one members showed up for the
meeting including two pen pals. Eight of the
gardeners were new. They decided that they
would ask to change some of the classes for
the two Clinton flower shows. They also
worked on some of the float decorations.
Lori Kumm - secretary, was picked to
write to one pen pal and Mrs. Winter on
behalf of the junior gardeners. Christine
Strickland won the door prize, to write a
small essay about the Easter Lily.
Their next meeting is to be May 4, outside
the town library, and then they are heading
to Verbeeks to get gardening tools, flowers,
etc.
