Nr•r1U 111� ■ .._..; Wornen hold Easter meeting By Mrs. L. Stonehouse BELGRAVE - The Easter Thankoffering meeting of the WMS was held in the Presbytet•ian Church on April 6. Mrs. Joe Dunbar presided and opened with a welcome to guests from Whitechurch, Belgrave Afternoon Unit United Church and Calvin -Brick United Church. After the call to worship, a hymn was sung. Mrs. Hebo Siertsema read the scrip- ture and Mrs. John McBurney read a meditation on the Easter message. Ivy Cloakey led in prayer. Hazel Dalrymple played a piano solo and a hymn was sung. Mrs. Dunbar introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Victor Jamieson, who gave a talk on the Risen Lord and what it means. Mrs. Garner Nicholson read two poems and Mrs. Freda Scott and Mrs. Siertsema received the offering while Mrs. Dalrymple played the organ. Mrs. Nicholson thanked the speaker and all who contributed to the meeting and a hymn was sung. United Church News A prelude of Easter selections was presented by organist Mrs. George Procter on April 12 at Knox United Church. Several Easter lilies in full bloom added to the celebration of the Lord's supper and Palm Sunday. The large choir sang an anthem with organ accompaniment. The service was conducted by Rev. John G. Roberts,. Euchre Results Eleven tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the WI Hall on April 8. Winners were: high lady, Gertrude Allan; novelty lady, Florence Black; low lady, Eva McGill; lucky chair lady, Lois Hart; high man, Lewis Stonehouse; novelty man, Clarence Hanna; low man, Gordon Bosman; lucky chair man, Gordon Walker. Personals Lawrence Taylor celebrated his birthday at his home on April 6. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mali, Taylor and Michael of RR 3, Holyrood, Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson, Michelle and Danielle of RR 2 Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Taylor, Trisha and Sherry of RR 5 Wingham, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gordon and Margie of Belgrave, Robert Gordon of Farishawe, London and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Robert Taylor and Angela of Ripley, to attend the 40th wedding anniver- sary of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Taylor of Sarnia on April 4. Max Pletch of Dryden spent a few days with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pletch also visited with his grandmother Carrie McGuire of Brookhaven Nursing Home Wingham. A dinner was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Edgar in honor of Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse who celebrated a birthday April 10. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Edgar of Petrolia; Irlma Edgar and Win- nifred Johnston of Wingham and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse, Belgrave. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Taylor, Debbie and Angela of Ripley visited on Sunday with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cowan, Sarah and Matthew of Listowel have recently purchas- ed the former home of Ethel Wheeler, Belgrave. Residents welcome them to the village. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Vincent and Dorothy Logan at- tended the 80th birthday party of their cousin Norman McDowell at his home in Auburn on April 12. Monday euchre results CLINTON - Monday afternoon euchre was held at the town hall on April 13 with Vera Gibbings winning the ladies' high hands and Mary Switzer taking the low hands. Agnes Carbert had the lone hands for the ladies' with Hazel Matheson (playing as a man) winning it for the men. Eric Switzer won the men's high and Vi Howes won e men's low. HAVE YOU GOT YOUR COPY? Marie Coutts opened with the Call to Wor- ship. Doreen Hackwell was pianist for hymns.. Emmrich read the scripture. Offering was received and dedicated. A prayer by Marie McGavin was followed by a poem by Marjorie Humphries. Heidi McClure presented a very in- teresting topic on Switzerland with pictures and commentary. She had several memen- toes on display and answered questions on her homeland. Marie McGavin conducted the business, assisted by Audrey Hackwell reading minutes. Roll call, on Easter verse or hymn, was answered by 17 members. The Unit is responsible for flowers in May. The bale is to be packed earlier as the deadlines is April 26. Easter Lilies are to be given to shut-ins after the church service next Sunday that goes in at 11:30 a.m. There was a discussion on the 25 years with pins available at $3.50. New dishes have been purchased by the U.C.W. and it was moved that add saucers be donated to the hall. Following grace, lunch was provided by Marie McGavin, Doreen Hackwell and Edith Wey. Church News The Palm Passion Sunday service at Duff's United Church was in the charge of Rev. Bonnie Lamble, who conducted the Junior Choir. The choir was accompanied by Marion Godkin at the piano. Paul and Dianne McCallum were greeters. Mark Andrew, infant son of Keith and Gloria Wilbee, was baptized. Graeme Craig assisted with the lighting of the candles. Gloria sang a very timely solo, "Because He Lives" accompanied by Elva Wilbee at the piano. . The confirmation class met on Sunday afternoon, and in the evening met with the Brussels Youth Group for Volleyball. Next Sunday's Easter Family Services have been changed. At 9 a.m. is breakfast, at 11 a.m. the service at Bluevale and 11:30 a.m. the Walton services. Don't forget to purchase your ticket from U.C.W. members for the Grey -Bruce Singers Concert at Duff's United Church, Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome. People Several friends from the Walton area at- tended the Clark -Engel reception at Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Cen- tre following their wedding at Cranbrook Presbyterian Church, Friday evening. Sandra Sholdice spent the weekend with her mother, Dorothy Sholdice and Murray. Mr. and Mrs. F. Leslie Hart, Seaforth visited on Sunday with Keith and. Gloria Wilbee and family when they attended the baptismal of their grandson, Mark Matthew during the morning service at Duff's United Church, also present were grandparents, Ian and Elva Wilbee, and Carol Henderson, Seaforth. Unit packs Easter baskets Mrs. Dorothy Grange and Mr. Elliot Lapp attended the Spring Rally of senior citizens at Dashwood on Tuesday, April 7. Unit I will meet on Tuesday, April 14 at 8 p.m. at the church. They will be packing Easter baskets. Mrs. Elliot Lapp attended the 25th Annual London Conference for the UCW at the Metropolitan Church, London on April 6-7. Unit II will be having a visiting meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15 and the business meeting will start at 8:30 p.m. at the church. Mrs. F.G. Lapp returned to her home in St. Thomas after visiting Mr. and Mfrs. Elliot Lapp. Congratulations to Mr. Norman McDowell who celebrated his 80th birthday on April 12. Euchre party There were seven tables in play at the euchre party held Tuesday evening April 7 at the Community Hall. Winners were .Jewel Plunkett ( high lady ), Lillian Leatherland ( low lady ), Ted Mills ( high man ), Warner Andrews ( low man ) and Edgar Daer (novelty). Holy Communion Reverend Shuttleworth conducted the morning Palm Sunday service at Knos United Church. Easter lilies adorned the sanctuary. Organ and piano prelude was by Mrs. Gordon Gross and Lori Milltan. • The junior choir marched into the church carrying palm branches and placing them at the front of the sanctuary. The senior and junior choirs sang 'Hosanna Lord'. The junior choir sang 'Children of Jerusalem' under the direction of Mrs. Allan Webster. The senior choir sang 'Ride On'. The children's hymn 'Praise Him, Praise Him' was sung and then Rev. Shuttleworth told the children's story before they went to Sun- day School with teachers Mrs. Fred Arm- strong, and Lori and Donna Lynn Armstrong. Prayer of confession was read responsive- ly, followed by the Lord's prayer. The minister's sermon was entitled "The Winds of the Cross." The offering was received by Greg Park. Murray Rollison, Bob Worsell and Roger Cunningham. Rev. Pickell of Goderich, supervising minister, served communion. Servers were Elliot Lapp, Ernest Durnin, Dorothy Grange, Lawrence Plaetzer, Tom Cunn- ingham and Ken Ramsey. "Victory in Jesus" was sung and the pastor pronounced the benediction. The ser- vice closed with the congregational benedic- tion "Lord We Pray."
