Program
developed
to promote
excellence
Best Ever Ontario was created by the
Ministry of Tourism and Recreation in. 1985
to encourage excellence and participation in
amateur athletics across the province.
The ministry gave $4.4 million of Best
Ever funds last year to amateur sports in
Ontario and has allocated another $4.4
million in funds for this year's program.
This continued support will help Ontario
athletes achieve "best ever" results at the
1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta
and at the Summer Olympics in Seoul, South
Korea.
Ontario has more than 50 per cent of the
athletes who represent Canada on major
games events. Their outstanding perfor-
mance is in part due to Best Ever funds.
Best Ever Ontario was also designed to
provide programs aimed at increasing par-
ticipation in sports across all regions and
communities in Ontario. Special emphasis
has been placed on new programs for
women which will enhance the involvement
of aspiring female athletes in amateur
sport: Disabled athletes will be encouraged
to become more involved in amateur sport
and programs to meet their unique needs
will be created.
In addition Best Ever funding continues to
assist those sports organizations par-
ticipating in the upcoming Commonwealth
Games, Pan American Games and the
Games for the Physically Disabled.
The students of Ron Tyndall's Karate school won in over 75 per cent of the categories at a
recent Goderich tournament. Pictured above are some of those students who par-
ticipated. In the back row from the left are instructor Ron Tyndall, Brad Fowler, Julie
Decker, Bruce Henderson, Jeff Henderson and Scott Merner. In the front row from the
left are Steven Lassaline, Cory Henderson, Phillip Jorna, Brian Dillion and Glenda
Gardner.

Ron Tyndall's karate school showed an
impressive display of self confidence, self
control and self defense at a local tourna-
ment in Goderich on March 21.
Tyndall's karate dub won over 75 per cent
of all categories at the tournament. Three
other local clubs from Seaforth, Kincardine
and Goderich also competed in the all clay.
event.

dall, over thirty of his students competed in
various divisions. When Mr. Tyndall was
asked why his students do so well at tour-
naments, he replied that to be a good mar-
tial artist it takes a lot of dedication and
hard work which his students have proved.
Mr. Tyndall's students train at the
Goderich Township Hall in Holmesville and
