Clinton and area obituaries
Marten Poelman
Marten Poelmdn, of Clinton and formerly
of Tuckersmith Township, died in St.
Joseph's Hospital on April 5. He was 67
years old.
Mr. Poelman was born on December 1,
1919 in Doezum, Groningen, The
Netherlands, to the late Marten and
Rieckeltje (Elzinga) Poelman. On May 9,
1947 he married the former Hennie
Bysterveld in Sauwerd, Groningen, The
Netherlands.
The Poelmans came to Canada in August
of 1948, settling in Chatham. In 1950 they
moved to Cochrane where they lived until
4965 when they moved to Tuckersmith
Township whe • they farmed until 1985.

Mr. Poelman, who was a member of the
Clinton Christian Reformed Church, is sur-
vived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs.
Hans i Rita I VanDyke of Clinton, Mrs. John
( Eileen ) Moerbeek of RR6 Goderich and
Mrs. Steve 1 Linda) Keys of RR1 Varna; and
three sons, Tom and his wife Clara of Sur-
rey, B.C., Lloyd and his wife Joanne of Clin-
ton and Donald at home. He is also survived
by 14 grandchildren.

CLINTON : Despite the nasty weather on
April 2 eight tables of players gathered
at the 100 F Hall, with the ladies' high prize
going to Bernice Brown, low prize to Lor-
raine Baird and most lone hands were
played by Beatrre Welch.
For the men, Eric Switzer was winner of
high prize, low prize went to Bob Welch and
most lone hands to Frank Thompson.
The next card party will be on April 16 at 8
p.m., which will be the final card party for
the season. Thank you to all who have
participated.
The annual dessert euchre is coming up on
April 29, 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
Spring service held in dalton
Sunday afternoon the United Church
Women's spring thanksgiving service was
held in the auditorium of Duff's United
Church, Walton.
Guests were present from surrounding
churches. An organ prelude was given by
Margery Huether. Ushers were Olene Den-
nis, Maxine Marks, Dianne McCallum and
Kathleen Williamson.
The UCW President welcomed everyone
and called on Marie McGavin who introduc-
ed the special guests from Alma College, St.
Thomas. Along with her daughter Heather
McGavin there was Lillian, Michelle,
Crystal and their religious instructor Ms.
Scott. These quests conductgd a brief devo-
tional service with each girl felling different
happenings at Alma.
Miss Scott showed slides on Alma, giving
worthwhile facts of the 11 year old building
and what went on at Alma College.
Helen Craig presented Courtesy Remarks
to the girls and Ms. Scott for sharing their
time and knowledge.

4-H Club

The sixth and final meeting of the 4-H
Club, "Handy Dandy's was held at the home
of Mary Baan on March 31.
Alter the opening 4-H pledge, the roll call:
'Were would you like to go for a holiday? -
was answered by all members. The dif-
ferent types of transportation were discuss-
ed and took place about the car and costs
involved.
A demonstration was given on how to
check the oil, how to boost a battery, how to
change a tire and how to check the lights.
An achievement program was announced
to be held on May 7 at Londesboro.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Craig were in Bolton
last Thursday to attend the funeral of their
aunt, Mrs. Wes McCutchion.
Mrs. Lorry 1 Dena 1 Kale and children,
Carla and Cameron of Edmonton, Alberta
are visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Campbell Wey, calling on Mr. and Mrs.
Nelson Reid on Saturday.
Congratulations to Bill and Valerie Shor-
treed on their new baby girl born in Clinton
Hospital last Friday. Valerie and baby are
at Westminster Campus in London at the
time of writing, hope they will be well to
return home real soon.
Thomas of Athens, and one brother and two
sisters in the Netherlands.
He was predeceased by three sisters and
three brothers.
A funeral service was held on April 7 at
the Clinton and Christian Reformed Church
with Rev. Homer Samplonius officiating.
Funeral directors were Ball and Falconer
Funeral Home, Clinton.
Pallbearers were Brant Bylsma, Henry
Hummel, John Kassies Sr., Marten Kuipers,
William Roest and Ralph Stryker.
Interment in Clinton Cemetery.
BabyLaura Neutel
Baby Laura Neutel, daughter of John and
Mary -Ann (fieykoop) Neutel of Brucefield,
died in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, on
March 31. She was one -day-old.
Laura is survived by her parents, her
grandparents, Harm and Pauline Neutel of
Woodstock and Nick and Jennie Heykoop of
RR3 Clinton. Also surviving are her great
grandparents, Case and Alice Kuiper of
Clinton and Nick Heykoop of the
Netherlands.
Laura is also survived by two brothers,
Christopher and Brian, and one sister,
Patricia, all at home.

A private funeral service was held on
April 3 at the Ball and Falconer Funeral
Home. Rev. Homer Samplonius officiated.
Interment in the Clinton Cemetery.
Helen Mulligan
Helen Louise Mulligan, 47, of Bayfield,
formerly of Stratford, died March 29 at her
residence.
Born in Stratford, she was a daughter of
the late Alvin Mur,eh and the former Win-
nifred Harris. Sher, had lived at Dunnville
and Montreal, then Stratford, moving to
Bayfield two years ago.
She was a former employee of Canada
Trust.
Surviving are her husband Paul, one son,
Kevin, of Bayfield; three brothers, Howard
Murch and wife Irene, Bruce and wife
Sheila, of London, Ross and wife Joan, of
Dorval, Quebec; four sisters, Lois and hus-
band Alex Trotter, Irene and husband Norm
Calvert, of Sarnia, Joyce and husband
Robert Petrie, Arlene and husband Ben
Price, and father-in-law, Albert Mulligan, of
Bayfield.
A private family service was held 11 a.m.
March 31 at the W.G. Young funeral home,
430 Huron St., Stratford. Rev. Robert
Schroeder officiated. Burial followed in
Avondale cemetery.
