Science By Chrystal Cueksey and Sarah Allan BLYTH — The science fair is over for another year, and winners have been selected from each grade level. The com- petition was optional for Grade 5 and 6 and compulsory for Grade 7 and 8. Winners were: Grade 5 - 1st - Amber Gelwicks; Grade 6 - 1st - Conrad Bos; 2nd - Jason Elliott; 3rd - Sarah Allan; Grade 7 -1st - Tammi Medd; 2nd - Debbie Logue, Laurie Wharton, Lisa Bromley tied; Grade 8 - 1st - Rick Howson and Darryl Elliott; 2nd - David Hessels; 3rd - Kelly Cook. The next level of competition is the country -wide fair, and the top two exhibits 'from the school will be forwarded to Clinton •Public School for April 10 and 11. The ICONs Were Here By David Hessels On March 20, 16 ICON computers came to the cehnnl The first day Mrs Parsnrts ex - fair winners announced e The Bir Truth plained how to use the computers to students and teachers. Then Mr. Marsh took over. Each class had their own time each day of the week. These computers have been brought by the Huron County School Board and are touring the county's schools. On Friday they left Blyth and went to the next school. T1,c WON computers are much better •r......w.. school's computers. ICON's have than the school's computers. a built in roler that works as a mouse or a joystick and all 16 computers work on two disc drives. Parents have been in this week to use the computers. Students would like to thank Mr. Marsh for spending so much time with them as well as returning each night all week to demonstrate their use to parents. Awesome Art By Kevin Souch On March 23, Mrs. Graham, the art con- sultant for the Huron County Board of Education, came to Blyth Public School to demonstrate to the Grade 7 and 8 classes some new art techniques. She did such things as drawing three dimensional sket- ches of a box. She also showed the students how to draw scenes with a disappearing point. The students thought she was "awesome" and her drawings were "out of sight". Song fest to be hosted by United Church By Dora Shobbrook LONDESBORO - Greeting members to the United Church here on March 29 were Rev. Snihur and Jim Jamieson. The ushers for the service were Jack Lee, Ken Armstrong and Len Archambault. Rev. Snihur welcomed all and noted the decoration of the cross was carried out by Marguerite and Ron Gross. He also gave the following announcements. There will be a song fest at the church on April 5 at 7:30 p.m. Admission will be $3 for adults and $1 for children aged six to 12. The senior youth group will meet on April 2 at 7 p.m. at the school. An invitation was received to attend the Walton UCW thankoffering on April 5 at 2:30 p.m. The London conference UCW an- nual meeting will be held on April 6-7 in Lon- don. Next Sunday Daylight Savings Time will take effect. The children's song was "The Butterfly Song." For children's time a telephone was on display where the children could talk to God. The junior teachers were Caron Snihur and Gerbin Wilts. The scripture reading was given before the anthem was sung with Marsha Szusz as choir director and Deanna Lyon as the organist. The scripture lesson was then given and this was followed by the sermon. An announcement was given that three members of the church were in Clinton Public Hospital. These members are Elsie Shaddick, Ruth Shaddick and John Cartwright. Personals On March 25 there were nine players out for shuffleboard. Hazel Reid had the high score. The next games will be played on April 1. Burlington residents Doris Lear, Lillian Johnston, June Crawford and her daughter Carol spent March 28 with Jean Scott. Colleen Carter of Exeter spent the weekend with her parents. Glen and Doreen Carter. Lloy and Dirk Garlichs of Waterloo visited on the weekend with her father Allen Shad - dick and her mother in Clinton Public Hospital. Dinner guests with Beth Knox on March 24 were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Boyce of Goderich, Lloyd Stewart of Clinton, Hazel Watkins and Dora Shobbrook. Muriel and Ross Millson of Woodstock, nd Thelma Ellerby and John Cameron of Clinton called on their mother Dora Shob- brook on the morning of March 29. They at- tended the Lions pancake breakfast. Mrs. Bert Lyon spent March 24-26 with Mr. and Mrs. Ron Moes and family in Tiverton. The end of season WI cards will be played on April 3 at 8 p.m. All are welcome and lunch will be provided. A large number of people enjoyed the Lions Club pancake breakfast on March 29. Rev. Shuttleworth conducts service There were nine tables in play at the euchre party held at thepCommunity Hall on Tuesday evening, March 24. The winners were Lillian Leatherland ( high lady), Carol Daer ( low lady ), Marian Haggitt ( high man),. Len Shrobrook (low man) and Grace Cartwright (novelty). Euchre parties are held every Tuesday nigt at 8 p.m. at the Community Hall. Everyone is welcome. Knox United Church service Rev. Gary Shuttleworth conducted the morning service at Knox United Church. The organ prelude was by choir director Lori Millian. The prayer of invocation was said in unison. Life and work of the church were given. The prayer of confession was read responsively and .words of assurance and the Lord's prayer were read. The choir sang "Do you know Jesus". The children's hymn, "All things bright and beautiful", was sung. The minister told the children's story and they then went to junior congregation with teachers Julia Glenn, Anita Gross and Allison Chamney. The minister's sermon was entitled "The summons of God." The offertory prayer and dedication of gifts, ti.hes and offering were given. The offering was rt•ceived by Brian Ramsey and Marinus Bat..er. The minister pronounced the benediction and the service closed with the congregational benediction "Lord we pray." Local Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Craig and family on the death of her father Dawson Mackey of Parkhill in his 94th year. Knox UCW The general meeting of the Auburn UCW was held on March 24 at 8 p.m. at the church. The president, Mrs. Peter Verbeek, opened the meeting with prayer and then conducted the business. The secretary read the minutes and letters received and the treasurer, Mrs. Greg Park, gave her report. A changed in meal prices that had been approved by the Women's Institute was given and moved by Mrs. Greg Park abd seconded by Mrs. Barry Millian that this be accepted. The invitiation to the Blyth spring Thankoffering service was accepted. Fifty dollars is to be sent to the Huron -Perth Presbytery for camp counsellors. A UCW Anniversary pin was shown and Mrs. Greg Park is to be notified if a pin is deserved. Various committees gave their reports. Mrs. Maurice Bean told about Westminster weekend on June6-7. The topic will be "Decisions in Discipleship" and Dr. Agnes Groome will be the guest speaker. Total cost per person is $85. It was decided to pay half the price for anyone going. UCW from Goderich Victoria and North Street churches, Benmiller and the village ladies are to be invited to the Easter Thankoffering on April zz. 1ne guest speaker will be Mrs. R. Gelwick of Blyth. Mrs. Oliver Anderson and Mrs. Greg Park are to purchase the Easter lilies. Easter baskets are to be made up by Unit I and delivered by Unit II. The theme of the programme committee was "Friendship" with Mrs. Marinus Bak- ker opening the service with a poem. "What a friend we have in Jesus" was sung with Mrs. Barry Millian as pianist. Mrs. Jake Middelkamp read Matthew 25 verses 31-40 and spoke on how to be a friend and how to make friends. Offering was received by , Mrs. Bakker and the offertory prayer was given. Mrs. Middelkamp continued with ways to help a hurting friend, to listen, to handle confidence carefully and to trust God to heal. Mrs. Middelcamp introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. J. MacPherson of Ripley. She told us that the burdens of life are not so heavy when there are friends to share them with. She showerdeVarious articles that reminded her of friends and told about them. They showed rewrds of friendship and the love of God. Next she produced paper, scissors, netting etc. and everyone made an Easter basket. Mrs. Middelkamp thanked Mrs. MacPherson and presented her with a gift. Grace was sung. Unit I serv- ed lunch and a social half-hour was enjoyed. Summerhill hosts 11 tables at euchre party SUMMERHII.1. - A euchre party was held at the community hall here on March 27 with 11 tables in play. The ladies' winners were Alice Buchanan with the high, Irene Whitmore with the lone hands and Vera Gibbings with the low. For the men Bill Jenkins had the high, Walter Pepper had the lone hands and Edna Wheeler, playing as a man, had the low. The lucky draw winners were Mark Jenkins, Warren Whitmore and May Pepper.
