the congregation was privileged to enjoy
John and Sandy Maaskants' slides of Israel
from their recent trip there. John was a
good commentator and he highlighted his
recollections with references to familiar
scripture. It made the Holy Land so much
more exciting to see.
There has been much growth at church
(don't mean the recent babies). The various
clubs had excellent reports to present at the
last congregational meeting and members
rejoiced in the increaseel,\response of the
children to the gospel.
There has also been growth in the
membership.
On March 8, Janice Van Dorp made a
public profession of faith at the morning
service.
March 15 was a fantastic day of fellowship
at the church. There was a "Fellowship Pot-
luck Meal after the service. It is always a
delight to attend, sampling other people's
dishes. The church enjoys these potlucks
every eight weeks or so and its purpose is to
provide extra time for fellowship.
That evening the congregation had a
Praise and Worship service on the theme
prayer. The special music was sung by Irvin
and Coby Amoraal.
The Praise and Worship services have a
special emphasis on singing and sharing
followed by a devotional. They occur every
fourth Sunday evening. -
The Children's Choir, led by Lorrie Baker
and Coby Amoraal, are busy preparing for a
20 minute Easter Cantata to be performed
on Easter Sunday morning, Other adult
soloists will be featured in the Cantata as
well. Everyone is welcome to attend this
special service at 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
Coffee Break, a bible study for women and
the story -hour for pre-schoolers has been re-
scheduled to Tuesdays at 10 p.m. instead of
Thursdays. All women and pre-schoolers
are invited to join in this bible study time at
the Vanastra Christian Church.
Activity Night
March 27 is activity night, held by the
Vanastra Lioness Club, at the Recreation
Centre. The night starts at 7 p.m. for
children ages seven and up.
Teen Dance
The Lioness Club will hold a teen dance at
the Recreation Centre on April 3. Music will
be supplied by PRS DJ. The evening will run
from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Public School News
The Vanastra Public School held registra-
tion for kindergarten on Tuesday afternoon
from 1 to 2 p.m.
The students of kindergarten to Grade 2
travelled to the Maple Key Sugar Bush on
Wednesday. There they learned about the
making of maple syrup.

VANASTRA - The Vanastra Recreation
Centre would like to say a special thanks to
all swimmers who participated in the Sixth
Annual Heart Fitness Swim held at the
recreation centre during the month of
February.
A successful event this year, had 34 swim-
mers taking part in a half hour swim, doing
as many lengths as they could in that time
period.

Flea Market A Success
A variety Jf items were on display at the
Vanastra Lioness Flea Market on March 21.
The doors opened at 9 a.m. and a steady
\ flow of customers held vendors busy until 2
p.m.
Specials thanks goes out to Barb Hodgins,
and Sharon Arts for their help with this
event. Also thank you to all those who sup-
ported the venture again this year.
The Lioness Club has donated $300 to the
Vanastra Squirt Girls Team for ball
uniforms.

The congregation at the Vanastra Chris-
tian Church has been reminded for the last
few weeks to do a bit of spring house clean-
ing, for the churches table at the Vanastra
Lioness Flea Market held on March 21.

Stanley prepares for race

VARNA - The time of registration for the
Stanley Recreation Canoe Race on April 12
has been changed to between 1 and 1:30 p.rn.
.Jim Kirton is the man to call for further
information.
There were 13 tables of euchre at the
Orange Lodge card party on March 20. Win-
ners of high prizes were Betty Thompson
and Annie Finkeiner Iplaying on a man's
card 1. Maude Weston and Jason Welsh were
consolation prize winners. Draw prizes were
won by .John McFarlane, Pearl Hutchings,
Harry Baker and Walter Pepper. Thanks to
Marg Hayter for recording prize winners at
we card parties tor the information of
readers.
Beth Good, an aunt of Barbara Ann
Parker, will be the guest speaker at Varna
UCW's Thankoffering meeting on April 2.
She works for the Mennonite Central Com-
mittee's self-help program, and has visited
countries where people make articles like
brass, wicker, embroidered cloth, etc. for
sale in this country in return for things they
need. Miss Good is from New Hamburg.
Charles and Bernice Reid enjoyed sunny,
warm weather while staying with Bob and
Margaret Reid in Florida for a couple of
weeks.

KIPPEN - The Cultural Activities
Meeting was held on March 18. At the home
of Thea Wisch, President Grace Drummond
welcomed everyone. Members enjoyed
singing and Hilda Payne had to pay a 40 cent
fine for failing to wear a pin. Rall call was
answered with members bringing articles to
show and tell from Greece,, France,
Scotland, Japan, Virgin Islands,North West
Territories, Australia, India, Now Zealand,
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Brazil, and Korea.
Grace Drummond gave a reading and
held a contest, which was won by Michelle,

Rena Caldwell gave an intereoting motto -
of all the things we wear our expression
means the most. Rena touched in men's and
womens hairstyles an clothing.
A mystery auction took place with Mona
Alderdice as auctioneer, assisted by Thea
Wisch and Margaret Hoggartl. A total of
$56.75 was raised in a short time. Lunch was
served by Rena Caldwell and Dorothy Bell,

United Church Nem
A special worship service was held on
March 22 at St. Andrews United Church to
celebrate the 25th anniversary of United
Church Women. Frances Kinsman was at
the organ. Mildred MacGregcr led the ser-
vice and the choir sang. Readings were
given by Susan Faber, Helen McLean, and
Yvette Binnendyk. Candles were lit by
Mabel Kyle, Pat Love and Lauren Love.
On April 14 at 8 p.m. the ltippen Spring
Thankoffering will be held. Guest speaker
Muriel Coultes of Belgrave wll show slides
and speak on Mexico. Kipper UCW are in-
vited to Varna on April 2 at,8 p.m. and to
Egmondville on April 7 at 7:37 p.m.
PERSONALS
Kippen gained a brand nev resident when
Matthew Scott was born on March 16. To
Mary Ann and Scott MacGregor. Proud
grandparents are Marlii and Diane
Heynsbergen and Ronald and Mildred
Macgregor.
Rosemary MacGregor and daughters Kel-
ly and Allison spent a week in Ottawa,
visiting with Rosemary's parents and
family.
Greg Hoggarth spent the March break
from his teaching in Ottawa, with his family
in Kippen.
