Clinton Council's newest representative is Case Buffinga, while the new civilian reps are Anne Narejko and Tom McMahon. To get the new members off on the right foot recreation director Steve Campbell prepared a book with all the pertinent recreation information for all of the com- mittee's members. It included sections on the budget, an overview of the recreation committee, and the duties and respon- sibilities of the members. There weren't too many issues brought up at the meeting for the new members to sink their teeth into, but they were able to vote on a few issues. One of these issues has been held back since the beginning of the year,. waiting specifically for a fuller committee to be in session. This issue was the vote to see who would be the committee's chairman. Once again, Ron McKay got everybody's votes, and he will retain his seat. A vice-chairman was also voted on, and Dan Colquhoun was chosen for this spot. Mr. Campbell brought up the subject of putting up a sign in Hawkin's Park, situated on Smith Street. He explained they have been approach- ed by a daughter of the late Hugh Hawkins who wondered whether some type of memorial could he er•eeterl in the nark Sports Atoms "In 1963 it was brought before council to erect a plaque, but nothing was done. We're now looking at what we can do and the cost," he said. The matter of this sign will be put to the new parks conunittee, made up of Barb Crawford, Councillor Ross Carter, Audrey Lyndon and Tom McMahon. They will make their recommendations to the recreation conunittee as a whole, who will in turn make a recommendation to council. The new arena committee of Dan Col- quhoun, Councillor Buffinga, Ross Jewitt and Anne Narejko were also given a timely issue to discuss at their meeting, and it is that of high school hockey. The rec committee will be meeting with the high school hockey organization from Central Huron Secondary School to come to a mutual agreement for next season. Some issues that will be on the board will include the rules separating the high school league and other organized teams and next year's ice time. In other business the committee discuss- ed the hiring of a summer student to help out with the arena and parks. The town will be advertising for this stu- dent, but here's a little advance warning. The chosen student will be expected to start on April 13 and his or her duties will include working on parks maintenance, arena maintenance and 'arena supervision. Mr. Campbell noted that they hope to.get financial assistance from the government to pay this student's wages. He has applied for the Experience '87 grant, and if the grant comes through the wages will be 100 per cent funded for minimum wage.
