Pump Boys
And Dinettes
roll into Blyth
BLYTH - The Blyth Centre for the Arts is
welcoming in spring with the rollicking
country and western musical comedy,
Pump Boys And Dinettes on April 5 at 2 p.m.
at the Blyth Memorial Hall.
Winner of four Lora Awards (including
best production 1 and 1982 Best Musical Tony
Award Nominee, Pump Boys And Dinettes
is a 90 minute musical journey through the
daily lives and loves of the two Cupp sisters,
proprietors of the Double Cupp Differ and
the four pump boys who work at the gas sta-
tion in Frog Level, South Carolina. Using
musical styles ranging from country to rock
to gospel and blues.
Pump Boys And Dinettes is a down-home,,
foot-stompin; hand-clappin' good time that
leaves the audience on its feet shouting for
more." ( Ellis Widner, The Tulsa Tribune.
The Toronto Sun recommends this musical
"to the proverbial whole family and to
absolutely anybody who goes out for a good
time...".
.' Directed by Patrick Rose, Pump Boys
And Dinettes stars Jamie Alcorn, Doug
Balfour, Jodie Friesen, Randy Kempf,
Robert Maciag and Janet MacEwen. This is
a new production utilizing the original
Charlottetown Festival cast and some
elements of the Variety Theatre (Toronto)
production, including the Dora Award winn-
ing lighting and set designs.
'Pickets for Pump Boys And Dinettes are
$10.00 and are available by calling the Blyth
Festival box office at 523-9300 or 523-9225. A
10'per cent discount is available for groups
of 20 or more.
Puppet workshop
to be held
Your local library is a great place to
spend part of the March Break. In addition
to books and magazines for hours of reading
enjoyment and regular weekly storytime
programs, some special events have been
planned for the week.
Summer will be coming early to the
library when Marian Doucette presents
"lone Fishin". This free children's puppet
show is sure to banish your wintertime blues
with its sunny stories, poems, puppets and
crafts. Marian will present "Gone Fishin"
at the Clinton Branch Library on March 17
at 3:30 p.m. -
Marian will also be presenting a Paper
Puppet Workshop for children aged 7-11 at
the Blyth Library on March 16 at 3 p.m. and
at the Bayfield Library on March 19 at 3
p DI.
Children will learn how to make simple,
but creative, paper puppets. The hour-long
«rnrkshop is free and materials are provid-
ed. Since space and supplies are limited,
preregister at your local branch library as
soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Marian Doucette, of Clinton, is an ex-
perienced puppeteer who designs and
creates her own original puppets. Both pro-
I;r:1111s are sure to be as educational as they
:ire entertaining.
These March Break Programs are spon-
.nred by your local branch library and the
horse County Public library.
Tina DeVries (left) and Rita Verburg were only two of the many people working behind
the scenes to make the Clinton and District Christian School's pancake supper a success.
The event is held annually, treating the guests to pancakes, sausages and a beverage.

Women Today bring
Heather Bishop to Blyth
BLYTH - Heather Bishop has a powerful
voice that delivers a powerful message. She
recently celebrated the beginning of her se-
cond decade as a performer by releasing
her sixth album, A Taste Of The Blues.
Heather's concerts always provide a rich
texture of different styles - from blues, to
comtemporary folk, to rock, to country and
western.
Women 'Today is pleased to be sponsoring
Heather Bishop's performance in Huron
County. Her music has become popular in
the area from her performance at women's
conferences such as Rural Women and Men-
tal Health and the Turning Point Con-
ference. Heather has also performed at the
Summerfolk Folk Festival in Owen Sound.
Heather's song They came for love is the
theme song on the video produced by the
Concerned Farm Women in Bruce County.
Reviewers have highlighted Heather
Bishop's "rich, belt -'em -out vocals", and
her "powerful rhythm guitar'', her "gutsy
delivery". She is a performer who is
necessarily political, but who is uniquely
entertaining as well.
When Heather Bishop is joined by bass
player, Kris Purdy, and guitarist, Sherry
Shute, there comes a synthesis of talents
that exhilarates, challenges, and always
entertains. For them it's great to perform
