Wesley Willis UCW plan upcoming events
CLINTON - Wesley -Willis UCW business
meeting was held on March 4 in the church
parlor with 14 members present. Peggy
Menzies welcomed all and reported on the
presidents' meeting that was in Hensall on
February 9.
In late April there is to be a Presbyterial
Event in the Kirkton Community Centre, in-
formation for this later. The campsite ex-
perience at Camp Menesetung is in June,
and as Joe Snyder has retired as camp
director and treasurer, Howard Blake of RR
2 Goderich is the new, treasuere.
On March 21, a display of quilts will be
shown at the quilt craft show in Exeter. The
one day School for Women at Alma College
is August 8 and Presbyterial President
Alma Langford will report back to the next
executive meeting, if money is needed for
this college.
Our study book for 1987 is First people
across the world. For 1988 Creation, and
1989 China today.
Metropolitan church London, is hosting
the London Conference on April 6 - 7 with
Rev. Clarke conducting the bible study. The
delegate from Wesley -Willis is Phyllis Wise.
The National Conference for Women is Ju-
ly 18 - 21 at the University of Waterloo and
Ann Maclean is the representative at this
event. Dr. Agnes Groom will be speaking on
Descisions and Descipleship on June 6 - 7 at
the Westminister Weekend.
After the announcements, Peggy, invited
all to her daughter Marianne's Trousseau
Tea on March 21.

MR. BERNARDUS WESTERVELD of
Clinton and formerly of Seaforth died
on Tuesday, March 3, 1987. Funeral
service was held at the Clinton Chris -
tion Reformed Church on Friday,
March 6, 1987.
MR. ALCIDE (AL) CORRIVEAU of Clin-
ton died on Saturday, March 7, 1987.
Funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph's
Roman Catholic Church, Clinton on
Tuesday, March 10, 1987.
The minutes of the last meeting were read
and adopted also the treasurer's report was
given. Donna Johnson read several thank
you notes and was asked to acknowledge
their appreciation to the members who had
given gifts of stainless steel flat -wear, stove
anniversary cake, painters, carpenters etc.,
and all letters are to be put in the church
mail boxes, when possible.
The proposed budget for 1987 was read by
finance convenor Florence Miller and it was
moved to accept this report. There will be
coffee hour on March 8.
A Federation of Agriculture dinner is to he
served at 12 p.ul. on April 11, and on June 20
the UCW will entertain the Blyth Theatre
Group to a 6 p.m. dinner.
The renovations to the kitchen are com-
pleted and Phyllis Wise reported everything
was satisfactory. Sorne shelves are to be put
up in the furnace room tor the nursery
school use.
Spring Thank Offering is in Ontario Street
United Church on March 22 at 7:30 p.m. with
Carol Wallace as speaker and music by the
Rural Roads of Seaforth.
Donna Woods sent out 37 Valentines and
reported a successful visitation on February
10. Mr. and Mrs. Nediger were visited on
their 66 wedding anniversary and on March
27, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Betties will be
celebrating their 69th anniversary.
The Cancer Society tea will take place in
the Anglican Church on April 3 from 1-4 p.m.
The World Day of Prayer at St. Joseph's
Church was well attended with Mrs. Ben
Munnings giving an inspiring address, and
all, local churches taking part in this 100th
anniversary service on the theme come and
rejoice.
Snow forces cancellation
of shopping spree plans
HURONVIEW - Bad weather on Monday
was the reason for cancelling the shopping
spree for Huronview residents of Unit 1.
However with spring definitely in the air
residents are sure there will be many shopp-
ing days to come.
The Help Us Grow group met with
"adopted grandparents" Tuesday morning
in the Bayview lounge. Following the usual
exercises, everyone took part in the games.
Ladies and men from the Bayview wing
sat down at noon in the auditorium for an old
fashioned country dinner. Appetites were
soon satisfied with the delicious meal con-
sisting of fried eggs, sausage, bacon and
potatoes.
Part of Wednesday was spent decorating
the main dining room for St. Patrick's Day
which is soon coming. Ladies from Huron
Heights wing busied themselves in the art of

World Day of Prayer was held Thursday
afternoon in the chapel. The service with its
theme Come and Rejoice was led by the
ladies of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Clin-
ton. Mrs. C. Brand made the opening
remarks. Lenore Sutherland, Flora
Dowson, Mildred Marwick and Gordon Mur-
ray were in charge of the devotional period
and Frank Bissett provided organ music.
The ladies of St. Joseph's and Bill
Schoonderwoerd sang.
Rev. John Pluta conducted Roman
Catholic Mass Friday morning in the
chapel.
Huronview welcomes May Ellwood from
Clinton.
Sunday morning worship was held in the
chapel. Everyone was delighted to have
Rev. David Snihur back from his holiday.

MR. AND MRS. RAYMOND MATHONIA
Raymond Joseph Mathonia and Karen Ann
Erb were married on November 15, in St.
Boniface Church, Zurich with Father P.
Mooney officiating. Tracey Vandervies was
the matron of honor and Lorna Datars,
Carmen Mathonia and Brenda Consitt were
the bridesmaids. Stephen Finkbeiner was
the best man and Ralph Mathonia, Dave
Erb and Pat Groot were the miters. After a
honeymoon in Puerto Plata, Dominican
Republic, the couple are now residing at
RR3 Zurich.

CLINTON — The Ontario Street UCW
Afternoon Unit met March 3. General
business was discussed and approved, with
14 home and 10 hospital calls were reported.
It was decided to have the Morning Coffee
Party and Mini Bazaar on May 7. Bernice
Jewson and her group were in charge of
devotions and program.
Tim Jewson was present to show his slides
and talk on his five months on an India
educational tour which he was on in a group
exchange program.
Langdon-Siertsema
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Siertsema of Blyth
and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Langdon of
Woodstock are pleased to announce the
marriage of their children, Anita and
Michael, on September 13, 1986 ,at the
Woodstock Maranatha CRC.
Officiating minister was Roger Gelwicks
of Blyth CRC.
The bride's dress was white satin trimm-
ed with lace, pearls and sequins, and was
bustled at the back with a sash bow. Her hat,
also made of satin, was decorated with se-
quins and pearls to match.
The bride's attendants included Yolanda
Siertsema as maid of honor, and Cindy
Langdon, Cathy Griffith, Lisa Myers and
Kathy Jordon as bridesmaids. They were
dressed in red bridal satin.
Acting as the groom's attendants were,
best man - Graham Chivers, and ushers
were Steve Siertsema, Chris Newton, Dave
Cook and Brian Logan. They were dressed
in black tuxedos with matching black satin
bow ties and cummerbunds.
The ring bearer, Kenny Edwards, and
flower girl Lori Edwards, cousins of the
groom, were dressed to mate# the bride and
groom. l
Special music was supplied by Debbie
Siertsema, sister-in-law of the bride, and
Joanne Van Maar, cousin of the bride.
Organist was Hinke Bakalaar of Blyth.
The dinner was held at the Quality Inn,
followed by a reception, with music supplied
by the band Select.
The bride and groom honeymooned in
Florida.
Clinton area obituaries
Alcide Francis Leo Corriveau
A Clinton resident for more than three
decades, Alcide (Al) Francis Leo Cor-
riveau, died at his 134 Townsend Street
home on March 7. He was 60 years old.
Born on April 10, 1926 in Hay Township, he
was the son of the late Leo Corriveau and
Annie Bedard.
He was married to Gwendolyn Miller on
November 24, 1948 at St. Joseph's Roman
Catholic Church in Clinton. The couple
made their home in Clinton.
Along with his wife, Mr. Corriveau is sur-
vived by one daughter Elaine and her hus-
band Neil Josling of Clinton, and two grand-
children Theresa and Michael Josling.
He was predeceased by two daughters Ro-
seanne and Mary Lynne Corriveau, and by
one sister Doreen Corriveau.
Morning funeral services were held on
March 10 at St. Joseph's Church with Rev.
John Pluta officiating.
Pallbearers were William Brand,
Clarence Denomme, William Grigg, Ken-
neth McNairn, Jack Merrill and Eldon
O'Brien. Burial took place at the Clinton
Cemetery.
Ball and Falconer Funeral Home Ltd. in
Clinton made the funeral arrangements.
MR. FRANK JOHNSTON
Mr. Frank Johnston of RR 2 Goderich died
at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital
on Friday, March 6 at the age of 83.
Born in Arthur on August 4, 1903, he was
the son of the late George Johnston and the
former Beatrice Phelan.
He was a- member of St. Peter's Roman
Catholic Church. Mr. Johnston was the
owner of Bluffs Motel on Highway 21 South,
Goderich Township.
Surviving are his wife, the former
Geraldine ',urges; three daughters, Ruth
Richmond of Toronto, Claudette Smith of
Stroud and Joan ( Mrs. Elmer Quesnelle 1 of
Midland; two sisters, Madeline Babin and
Val Thompson, both of Toronto; 12 grand-
children and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Johnston was predeceased by his first
wife, Victoria.
A funeral mass was held in St. Mary's
Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pan

Chapel of St. Peter's Church Monday,
March 9 with Rev. Joseph Hardy of St.
Peter's Church officiating. Prayers were
held at the McCallum and Palla Funeral
Home Sunday evening.
Pallbearers were Elmer Quesnelle, Rudy
Herman, Ivan Steckley, Ray McClinchey,
Norm Hamilton and Gary Schmidt.
Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery,
Thornhill.
BERNARDUS WESTERVELD
Bernardus Westerveld of Clinton and
formerly of Seaforth died Tuesday, March 3,
1987 at the University Hospital, London. He
was 68.
Mr. Westerveld married Mina Heyink in
Aalten, The Netherlands on June 6, 1946. On
April 6, 1952 Mr. and Mrs. Westerveld and
their two children immigrated to Canada,
settling in the Blyth area. In 1958 the family
moved to a farm at RR 1 Seaforth.
In 1978, Mr. Westerveld retired and the
family moved to Seaforth. They moved tYl
Clinton in October 1983.
Besides his wife Mr. Westerveld issurviv
-
ed by daughters; Jane and her husband
Lawrence Bilkes of The Netherlands, Elaine
and her husband Harry Zwep of Dundas and
Wilma and her husband William Koopman
of London; and sons John -and his wife
Monica of RR 1 Londesboro and Andrew of
Cambridge.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren an.d
two sisters, Grada Wevers and Hanna te
Grotenhuis, both of The Netherlands.
Friends were received at the Ball arid
Falconer Funeral Home, Clinton and a
funeral service was held at the Clinton
Christian Reformed Church on Friday,
March 6. Reverend Homer Samplonius
officiated.
Interment was in Clinton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Westerveld, Andrew
Westerveld, Harry Zwep, Bill Koopman,
Allan Heyink and Brian Guichelaar.
As .pressions of sympathy memorial
donations to the Gideon Bible Society or to
the Canadian Arthritis Society would be
appreciated.
