Tykes win with four
second period goals
By Brenda Burkholder
BLYTH - The Blyth Tykes played against
Zurich on February 28 here, winning 5 - 1.
The first period passed with numerous
shots on both nets, but none that counted.
Both teams were getting their share of play-
ing at their opponent's end of the rink. Dar-
ryl Bromley was goaltender for the game
and was doing an excellent job stopping the
puck.
Ronnie Abel-Rinn made an excellent shot
from the blue line the puck glided across the
ice and into the net, just as the buzzer went
for the line change, so it was not counted.
In the second period, Jason Badley at-
tempted a shot on Zurich's net. The rebound
from the Zurich goalie went to one of their
players who attempted to shoot the puck to
Blyth's end. Jason Badley was ready. Again
he caught the puck arid shot it across the ice.
This time it went in the net putting the first
goal on the board for Blyth. Jeff Cowan got a
break away moments later scoring the se-
cond goal and taking the Zurich goaltender
by surprise for the second time.
Minutes later, defensemaxi Cory Shannon
took the puck from a Zurich player, foiling
his attempt to shoot on net. Cory shot the
puck down the ice to Michael Haggitt who
caught the puck and shot it into the net.
A minute left in the second period Jeff
Ferguson stick handled the puck up the ice
shot the puck into the net, bringing the score
to 4-0 at the end of the second period.
Jeff Cowan scored his second goal of the
g me in the third period, doing a superb job
controlling the puck up the ice to the net.
Only minutes left in the game, Zurich
scored their first and only goal. The final
score was 5 - 1 for Blyth.
The Tykes will travel to Lucknow on
March 7 for a tournament.
