Heritage
policy to
be reviewed
TORONTO - Ontario's Minister of Citizen-
ship and Culture, the Honourable Lily
Munro has announced an "open, public and
participatory" review of provincial heritage
policy "to ensure that we continue to res-
pond to the needs and reflect the values of
the citizens of Ontario."
Speaking at a press conference attended
by representatives from various groups in-
terested in heritage conservation, Dr.
Munro confirmed that the policy review pro-
cess will be launched in March with the
release of a bilingual discussion paper
"designed to explore the board principles
and themes that should guide future govern-
ment support and activity in the field of
heritage conservation."
The release of the discussion paper will be
followed by 25 public meetings to be held
from April to July in communities represen-
ting all regions of the province.
The initial round of meetings, the Minister
said, will assist the government in shaping a
broad policy framework within which to
consider future legislative and program
changes. A second round of consultation will,
involve other levels of government, other
ministeries and representative heritage
organizations.
Based on this consultation, "We will be in
a position to define required legislation, pro-
grams and support services."
The review is being conducted under the
umbrella slogan Heritage - Giving Our
Past A Future.
Surveys show that heritage activity en-
joys a high level of public support, the
Minister said„Ind "we would not be where
we are today without the involvement of in-
terested groups and individuals across the
province."
Speaking in downtown Toronto at the On-
tario Heritage Centre, currently under
renovation and slated ` to open this
September, Dr. Munro appealed to both in •
-
dividual citizens and groups to participate.
"We, all of us, are a conduit: from our
parents to our children; from yesterday to
tomorrow; from what is to what will be. We
all have a responsibility; we must all be
involved."
Area man to
serve 10th year
on Egg Board
CLINTON - Bill Scott, an egg producer
from Seaforth has been re-elected to his 10th
term as a Director of the Ontario Egg Pro-
ducer's Marketing Board.
Mr. Scott will continue to represent the 82
egg producers in Huron County, who elected
him to the Board on February 18.
As well as representing Huron producers
on the provincial board, Mr. Scott
represents all Ontario producers as a Direc-
tor of the Canadian Egg Marketing agency,
the organization which administers the na-
tional supply management system for eggs.
Mr. Scott operates a custom hatchery in
addition to his egg production operation,
Scott Poultry Farms, near Seaforth.
Policies and operations of the Ontario Egg
Producers' Marketing Board are the
responsibility of 15 producer -elected direc-
tors. Thirteen of these are elected by egg
producers in 13 zones or areas of the pro-
vince; two are elected by pullet producers,
or farmers who raise chicks to egg -laying
age.
In each zone, producers elect a set
number of committeemen who then elect a
director for that zone. Pullet producers elect
committeemen to vote for a pullet producer
director for each half of the province. Direc-
tors are elected for a one-year term.

Music Festival Friday
CLINTON - On February 27, approximate-
ly 300 high school students from Guelph,
Listowel, Mitchell, Exeter, and Clinton will
converge on Central Huron Secondary School
to participate in the Fifth Annual Winter
Music Festival.
The purpose of this festival is twofold. First
it gives each choir an opportunity to perform
and to hear other choirs perform. Second, it
provides the opportunity to participate in a
massed choir to perform a major musical
work.
This year they will performing Hayden's
Missa Brevis with organ and string accom-
panyment. This is an exciting, dynamic work
and well suited to the large choir setting.
The guest conductor for the day will be
Denise Narcisse-Mair. Ms. Narcisse-Mair is
a visiting professor in the department of
music at McMaster University specializing in
Choral Technique and Vocal Methods.

Pacemakers tested
Why would you ever put a pacemaker in a
microwave oven? One of the tests for to-
day's pacemakers is exposure to microwave
radiation. That's essential because con-
tinued research and development have pro-
duced advanced pacemakers.
Unlike the early models that kept the
heart beating at a steady pace, the new
rnodels speed up or slow down when the
wearer uses more or less energy. That
allows the modern pacemaker owner to lead
a much more normally active life.
Having graduated from the Royal College
of Music in London, she has done post
graduate studies at London University and the
University of Toronto. Her special interests in-
clude the use of non-verbal comrnunication in
choral technique and the group dynamics of
the choir. She adjudicates frequently at
Kiwanis Music Festivals across Canada and
was the adjudicator for several of the par-
ticipating choirs last year in London. -
Ms. Narcisse-Mair will lead workshops and,
rehearsals throughout the day and will con-
duct the Missa Brevis at a concert in the
evening.
The concert, starting at 7:30 p.m. will
feature choirs from all five participating
schools as well as the massed choir.
Admission is $3. at the door. Everyone is en-
couraged to attend this concert. It should be
an exciting evening of choral music.
in microwaves
But the heart responds to electrical im-
pulses from the pacemaker, and pacemaker
developers must rule out the possibility of
outside electrical currents or other forms of
energy speeding up or slowing down so-
meone's heartbeat. Reaction to microwave
radiation is only one of the extensive tests
that a pacemaker undergoes before it finds
a home under someone's ribs.

dation of Ontario for information on heart
