Pair return from trip to Guadalaraja

VARNA -. Shirley Keys and friend Doris
Symington of Petrolia returned home
February 17 after spending 12 days in
Chapala near Guadalaraja, Mexico. They
report lovely dry, warm weather and not a
cloudy day while they were there. They
stayed with Doug and Erma Thompson of
Goderich, who are spending the month of
February there. They showed the girls
around, adding much to the• enjoyment of
their holiday.
Residents glad to have Mary Reid back,
after having spent several weeks with her
son, Larry, in Vancouver, and some time
with sons Bob in Pontypool and Wayne near
Ottawa.
Eric and Sharon Chuter and Don and Lor-
raine Taylor and daughter Kim have return-
ed from recent vacations in Florida with
their respective families. Kim was thrilled
with her 1 first airline flight.
Bruce Keys had his second hip replace-
ment surgery on Friday in University
Hospital. He was happy to have it done so
soon, as his former operation was very suc-
cessful and gave hire so much comfort.
Harold Peck and Murdock Morrison
returned home on the weekend, having had
surgery early last week in St. Joseph's
Hospital. They are both wished a quick
return to good health.
Euchre Results
Varna LOI, 1035 held their regular euchre
party on Friday night with 10 tables in play.
Ladies' high and low prizes went to Aldie
Crich and Margaret Hayter. Men's prizes
were won by Mervyn Hayter, high, and
Gladys Alexander, low. Draw prize winners
were Aldie Crich,' Eileen Consitt, Doris
Wilson, Anna Wilson, Ruth Johnston, John
McFarlane, Glen Dowson, Doreen Baird
and Jessie Blair.
Church News
Rev. Ephraim Gingerich was the guest
preacher at Varna and Goshen churches on
Sunday while the Parkers weretn a week's
vacation. His sermon was The Christian and
Tests and Trials. Joyce Dowson and
Margaret Hayter led the worship services,
and Carol Simons talked to the Varna
children about problems solving.

Group elects
new officers

CLINTON - On February 21 the Clinton II
4-H club met for their first meeting. The
club has 13 members and meets every
Saturday afternoon.
They held the election of officers who are
as follows: Melody Van Dorp - youth leader;
Pam Carter - president; Sandy Ryan -
secretary; Paula Jeacock - press reporter
and Susan Ryan - phone girl.
They learned skills on how to keep
yourself secure when home alone, how to
change fuses, how to fix the breaker, and
how to handle strangers at the door or on the
phone.

Summerhill Ladies' Club
sends Huronview Valentines
SUMMERHILL - The Summerhill Ladies'
Club met at the home of Marg Wrights' for
their February Meeting.
Ph}alis Tyndal opened the meeting with a
poem entitled Discovery.

repeated in unison. Sixteen members and one
visitor answered the roll call by signing Valen- Vera Gibbings gave a reading entitled

A thank you was received from the family
of the late Ida Wright.
Marianne Calcalough volunteered to attend
a meeting on emergency survival held in the
Clinton Town Hall and she will report back to
the club's next meeting.
Summerhill card party was announced for
February 97 at 8 p.m. The raffle was won by
Marie Gibbings.
For program, Marie Middleton conducted
an interesting contest on the Brazil nut. This
was won by Corrie Haak.
Sandra Westerhout showed pictures and
gave an interesting talk on their trip to Brazil
and their cruise on the Amazon River.
The March 11 meeting will be held at Alice
Buchanan's with Alice, Corrie Haak and Ruth
Jenkins on lunch and program.
The roll call is to be, what you would do in
case of a Tornado warning.
The meeting closed and lunch was served
and a soc' 31 time held.
School selects winners
CLINTON - Congratulations to all the
speech competitors at Clinton Public School
(CPS). Here are the results:

Winter Carnival
The pupils of CPS enjoyed Winter Car-
nival Week Activities such as snow sculptur-
ing, skating, skiing, tug of war, toboggan
races, and coloring contests made for suc-
cessful carnival. Special thanks to the
helpers and organizers!
Field Trips
Mr. Stecca's class, along with Mr.
Laurie's class, attended the East Wawanosh
Nature Centre on February 17. They had a
good time learning about snowshoeing and
about how to survive the Winter.
Fund Raising
With the money CPS has earned, they
were able to purchase two complete com-
puter packages and a video camera for the
school. All the equipment is getting used a
great deal. Thanks for your support!
The senior classes of CPA attended St.
Joseph's Catholic School along with a few
other schools for a presentation about
Natural Gas, (put on by Union Gas). There
was singing, experiments, acting, and even
slides a lot of kids found it amusing.

On February 19 the enrichment group was

pleased to have as a guest speaker, Randy
Lobb. He worked with the groups all after-
noon and demonstrated the methodology of
video filming.
Randy is in his third year of film at York
University in Toronto and attended CPS
years ago.
The students were totally mesmorized by
his presentation and had an opportunity to
begin a short program on playground
behaviour.
We thank him for sharing his valuable
time with us and are looking forward to his
return performance.
Story Hour
On Monday at the library there was a
story hour. They read The Little Red Hen
and made little red hens.
The Grade l's will be making books on
mice.
A class took the video camera and taped
swimming this week. The teachers said they
behaved well and they were amused while
watching it afterwards.

During this session of bowling Dorothy
Airdrie was the top bowler for the ladies
with the high single of 245, the high triple at
658 and the high average of 194. Joe Atkin-
son had the high single for the men with 255
as well as the high triple at 654. There was a
tie for the high average as both Brad Atkin-
son and Steve Gibbings averaged 20E.

average of 159. There was a tie for the Pee
Wee girls' high single as Launa Renner and
Michelle Schropshall had 112, while Krista
Black claimed the high double with 209 and
Michele Tyndall had the high average of 86.
Jason Wise had the high single with 145 and
the high double at 250 for the boys and
Stephen King had the high average of 111.
On February 22 many of the YBC bowlers
participated in the Four Steps To Stardom
tournament. They would like to thank all of
the parents and volunteers for taking the
children to bowl. Congratulations to all of
the children who bowled, and especially to
Dale Marsh, the Bantam boy single
representative who finished first in this
zone. Dale will be going on to compete
against other zone finalists in Toronto on
March 21.

high average of 174. For the men Steve Swan

high triple at 584 while Shawn Gautreau had

ladies Colleen McAdam was the top bowler
as Abe had the high single with 236, the high
triple at 555 and the high average of 160.
There was also one bowler that dominated
for the men as Doug Maguire had the high
single of 240, the high triple of 641 and the
high average of 171.
