MIDDLETON - Morning prayer was held
St. James' Middleton Anglican Church on
Sunday with Rev. Aubrey Bell officiating.
During the service, Rev. Bell had Renewal
of Marriage Vows in honor of St. Valentine.
Those taking the vows were Don and Audrey
Middleton, Edward and Lois Wise, Edward
and Blanche Deeves.
Don Middleton received the offering.
Rev. Bell read a thank you letter from
Bishop Derwyn Jones, thanking St. James'
for paying their budget.
Rev. Bell led in a Healing Service on Sun-
day. Holy Communion was held with the lay-
ing on of hands for those who wished it.
Coming Events
On February 22, Evensong will be held in
Trinity church at 5 p.m. Prayer Group will
begin at 7 p.m. at the Rectory. On March 1,
Men's Breakfast will be held at St. James'
at 8 a.m.
Wagon Ride Successful
Last Monday nearly 60 people gathered at
Tom Penhale's to join in the wagon ride. On
the ride were moms and dads, grammes
and grampas along with the children. Many
thanks to the hosts of this great ride Don and
Audrey Middleton.
Danny and Josh were the horses and the
driver was Don McNeil who took the
children for a great ride. Following the ride,
everyone came back to the church for sup-
per of wieners, scalloped_ potatoes, rolls,
salad, and cupcakes and ice cream for
dessert, along with a chocolate drinks.
Following the supper, a sing song was
held with Cheryl Tomilenson playing her
guitar, and games were also played to end
the day.
ACW News
The ACW of St. James' Middleton met
Thursday evening at the home of Delores
Dutot and even though he weatherman had
to blow up a storm, the meeting went on.
Margaret Middleton was in charge of
Worship. Margaret gave a reading, Doreen
Welsh read the scripture readings and
prayers were said in unison.
Audrey Middleton led in the business
Estelle Wise read the minutes of the last
meeting which were approved and the
treasurer's report was given by Blanche
Deeves in the absence of Lois Wise. Delores
Dutot read a thank you letter for the last
bale and a letter from the area of Keewatin
written by Bishop Alien. Blanche Deeves
gave the card report.
It was decided that the craft show in
Holmesville is to be October 2, 3 and 4 this
year.
A motion was made to have Apple
Blossom Time on May 13. On March 25 a
Dessert Euchre, sponsored by the Women's
Institute with help by the group in the
township and Middleton Church, will take
place. The meeting closed in prayer.
A card party will be held at St. James'
Middleton Church Hall on February 23 at 8
p.m. Everyone is welcome and ladies are
asked to bring a lunch. Cost is $1.50 per per-
son with good prizes to be won.
A TV Awareness Workshop is to be held on
March 7 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Trinity
Church, Bayfield. Everyone is welcome so
bring a bag lunch and coffee is supplied.

Rev. Bechtel speaks to
children before they go to classes

HOLMESVILLE = Worship service was
held in Holmesville United Church on Sun-
day morning with Rev. Bechtel in charge.
He spoke to the children before they went to
class, many who were not old enough to join
the Scouts, Brownies or the Rovers.
Enterprising Seniors
The Enterprising Seniors met in the com-
munity centre in Holmesville. Gertrude
Trewartha played the piano for the opening.
Bert McCreath chaired the meeting.
Charlotte Norman read the minutes of the
last meeting which were approved as read.
The roll call was taken.
Alice Porter and Hazel McCreath were in
charge of entertainment and led the group
in a game of Hollywood Squares, which pro-
ved to be fun.
Euchre and shuffleboard were enjoyed. A
social time was enjoyed at lunch.

The Tykes played two games on the

three per cent increase

VANASTRA - Tuckersmith Township
employees will get a three per cent wage in-
crease this year, approved at the cbuncil
session on February 17. The increase
retroactive to January 1 affects about 2'0
employees who work in the township's
clerical, roads, recreation and day care
departments.
Under the new salary and benefit

allowance; the road superintendent,

around the Hullett Wildlife Management Area and spoke to them

Surviving with style is new project

KIPPEN - The first meeting of the Kippen
3 4-H club was held at Brucefield Church on
February 17. Leaders Barb Moffat and Pat
Predhomme welcomed 16 members.
The objective for this club, Surviving with
Style, is to learn how to live on your own and
work with others.
Members were introduced to Bev Linden -
field who works for Johnson Controls. He
talked to the club about plumbing and elec-
tricity: The executive was chosen. Officers
for this club consist of Barb Fotheringham
as president, Lynn Moffat as vice-president,
Janice Moffat as treasurer, secretary and
press reporter both floating. Press reporter
for this week was Lois Anne I.ostell.
Fair Board Meets
The ladies' division of the Hensall Fair
Board met at the home of president Frances
Kinsman on February 17. There were nine
members present. Secretary Marlene Bell
read the minutes of the last meeting.
A motion to hold a yard and. bake sale to
raise money was passed and the sale will be
held Saturday, May 23 on the front lawn and
verandah of Mary Kinsman's home at 82
King St. Hensall. All committee members
are asked to donate at least three different
articles of baking plus some junk. Any other
supervisor, $14,705.44; day care teacher,
$13,591.39; part-time day care teacher, $6.32
per hour; part-time assistant special day
care supervisor, $8.03 per hour; day care
cook, $7.75 per hour; road grader operator -
mechanic, $10.11 per hour; jun •. grader
operator, $9.37 per hour; mowe perator,
$8.82 per hour and laborer, $7.05 .er hour;
and building inspector, $4,737.49 per year.
Employees traveling on township
business will be allowed- 350 per mile or 22t
per kilometer.
Other Business
A request for a tile drainage loan for
$20,000 was approved. ,
A request by Douglas Smith to operate an
automotive dealership on Lot 43 at Vanastra
was granted.

Club hosts
pot -luck
supper

MAITLAND & 16 - If you are a member
of the SS 4 Community Club and you missed
the meeting held in February at the
Goderich Township Community Centre. you
missed a super pot -luck meal. Probably you
are like most of us who were there and
didn't need to eat anyway.
After the meal and things were tidied
up, President Marilyn Forbes opened the
meeting with a poem, When God Created
Farm Folks and a reading What is
Farmer's Wife.
Secretary Verna I,obh read the minutes of
the December meeting and the annual
report which refreshed members memories
as how dull '86 was compared to '85.
Marlene Forbes, treasurer, read her
report and the annual report. Eleven
members paid their membership dues.
Members welcome their new member,
Mary .Jane.
The new slate of officers for 1987-88 was
read: president - Jeanette Martin. vice
president - Linda .Jones: secretary - Milena
f,obb, assistand secretary - Faye Oakes;
treasurer - Helen Lobb. assistant
treasurer; - Marlene Forbes: buying com-
mittee - Roba Lobb and Betty Feagan.
The next meeting will he held on March 4.
at 8 p.m. with a bake sale. The place has
been changed.also and we will meet at the
home of Helen Lobb.
It was decided to order the coin sets for
the school awards for .June. After the
Benediction, some quilted and some headed
for home in an attempt to miss the next
blustery blow.
I think everyone will agree that this is too
nice a winter to head off south for a holiday,
still it would be nice to go. The community
has been rather quiet except for the
snowmobiles which certainly have had ex-
cellent weather for getting around. The
skiers are taking advantage of the condi-
tions too.
There hasn't been too much in the way of
community activities but a good turn out
late in January got most together for a pot-
luck dinner and anyone who went away
hungry had themself to blame.
The ne%vlyweds, Steve and Brenda
Thompson, were presented with the com-
munity gift.
• Don and Marilyn Forbes have just return-
ed from a trip to Cuba..They were away a
week. There are rumors that there are
others going places also.

sion for the fall is -urgently needed, anyone

Women's Institute
In place of a February meeting, Kippen
East WI held their second annual euchre
party on February 20 in Hensall. There were
11 tables in play. Vice-president Margaret
Hoggarth welcomed everyone, in 'place of
president Grace Drummond who was ill.
Prizes were won by Grace Broadfoot,
Hilda Payne, Mary Broadfoot, Ida Dickert
and Pearl Taylor. Jack Sinclair, who was
celebrating his birthday that day, was
presented with a prize and the crowd sang
happy birthday accompanied by Mary
Broadfoot on the piano. The draw for a
grocery box was won by Bob Bell.
Energetic Eight
On February 18, the Energetic Eight met
at the home of Bev and Doris Hamilton.
Prizes were won by Bob and Frances
Kinsman, and Al and Margaret Hoggarth.
Harold Parsons won a prize for being the
• handyman in the crowd.

World Day of Prayer is to be held March 6
at 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's Church, Kippen
in the Sunday School rooms. Lunch and
social hour are to follow. Everyone
welcome.

Dealing with our Burdens. Mary Moffat
presided at the organ.

The annual meeting was held on February
22 following a pot -luck lunch which followed
the regular service. Chaired by Rev. Lorne
Keays, new elders elected were Myra Lovell
and David Cooper. New stewards elected
were Hugh Hendrick, Ray Consitt, Gary
Love and Orville Workman. Lois Jones was
re-elected treasurer for another year.
Plans were made for St. Andrew's 120th
Anniversary service to be held on October
18. Reports given showed that St. Andrew's
had an active and successful year. Thanks
to Mildred MacGregor for keeping the cor-
respondent up to date with St. Andrew's
Church news.
