Auburn card
party results
There were seven tables in play at the
Auburn euchre party held at the Community
Hall on Tuesday, February 17. Winners
were Ted Mills (high man), Ernest Durnin
( low man ), Adelaide Allin I high lady),
Grace Cartwright ( low lady) and Harry Ar-
thur I novelty) . A special prize made by Ray
Hanna was won by (illitan Stewart. Euchre
parties are held every Tuesday night at the
Community Hall at 8 p.m. Everyone
welcome.
Silver Tops pot luck dinner
The Silver Tops held their pot -luck dinner
at the Community Hall February 18 with 30
present and they sent three dinners out.
There was a short business meeting and
Elliot Lapp was named to fill the vacancy on
the hall board created upon the death of
Ross Robinson. A letter was read from the
Golden Gate Seniors of Goderich to attend
their meeting on April 15 and was accepted.
Women's Institute meeting
The monthly meeting of the Auburn
Women's Institute was held at the Com-
munity Hall on Tuesday, February 17. The
hall was decorated for Valentine's Day by
the convenors Marjorie McDougall and
Viola Raithby. Resolutions was the topic.
Mrs. Len Archambault, president, chaired
the meeting and opened with the singing of
the Institute Ode, the Mary Stewart Collect
and 0 Canada with Marjorie McDougall as
pianist. There were 15 present.
The minutes were read by secretary Mrs.
R. Picks and accepted as read. She also
gave the financial statement. Cor-
respondence was read and dealt with. '1'he
roll call was answered by telling a Canadian
law that causes the individual some
concern.
Viola Raithby read three poems. Mar-
jorie McDougall had a Valentine contest and
the winner was Marian Haggitt. Viola
Raithby had a cake contest which was won
by June Peck.
Marjorie McDougall gave a reading on
the origin of the Valentine and "Friends"
and "Who rings my bell". Mrs. Tom Lawlor
read several resolutions that were com-
pleted by the Federated Women's Institutes
of Ontario.
The meeting closed with the singing of the
Queen and Grace. A delicious lunch was
served by the hostesses Marjorie
McDougall and Viola Raithby. Mrs. Tom
Lawlor won the door prize. A social hour
was enjoyed.
Local
Mr. Ralph Graviston of Tavistock who on
February 28 will celebrate his 94th birthday,
a former barber in Auburn a number of
years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cop of Clinton,
Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Craig of'Lucan, Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Young of Stratford, Craig Ritchie
of Goderich and Mr. J.K. Young of Mitchell
were recent visitors with Ellen Johnston
and Laura Phillips.
Mrs. Florence Steckly of Stratford visited
on Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Lawlor of RR 3 Auburn.
Anita Gross of RR 1 Auburn attended the
Youth Experience weekend at Exeter
United Church.
Mrs. Verna Doerr Mr. Ronald Doerr and
Bradley of Niagaraalls and Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Charnney of Windsor were visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Bud Charnney.
Knox United Church
Rev. Gary Shuttleworth conducted the
morning service at Knox United Church
with the organ prelude played by Mrs. Greg
Park.
The prayer of invocation was said in
unison. The life and work of the church wer
given and words of assurance followed by
the Lord's Prayer.
The senior choir sang "Rock a my soul"
under the direction of Lori Millian, The
children's hymn "Saviour teach me day by
day" was sung and the minister told the
children's story and then they went to the
Sunday School rooms with teachers Mrs.
Robert Worsell and Lori Armstrong.

The Clinton Legion has found a way to remember past veterans and auxiliary members

learn money tips

BEI,GRAVE - The Belgrave 44I Club,
Serving with Style, have held their third and,
fourth meetings. The club meets on Tuesday
evenings in the WI Hall.
The third meeting was about choices and
there was discussion on money manage-
ment. During the fourth meeting the group .
learned laundry tips and also how to do sim-
ple repairs on their clothes.
The officers are: President - Karen Mon-
tgomery; Vice -President - Dianne Black;
Secretary - Carol Hopper; Treasurer -
Krista Bridge; Press Reporter - Mike Jar -
din; Assistant Leader - Heather McIntosh;
I,eaders - Mrs. Peter Campbell and Mrs.
Glenn Montgomery.
Sunday Service
Lay Sunday service at Knox United
Church on February 22 was conducted by
Mr. G. Ross Anderson and the scripture,
relating to the story of the workers in the
vineyard, was read by Murray Scott.
Ivan Dow introduced the guest speaker,
John King, Rural Life Resource person for
London Conference who spoke on corpprate .

An organ and piano prelude of sacred
selections was presented by Mrs. George
Procter and Mrs. Leslie Shaw. The large
choir then sang with organ accompaniment.
Rev. John G. Roberts extended a warm
welcome to the large congregation con-
sisting of 20 visitors from Morthlea United
Church, i Leaside) Toronto • members of
Calvin -Brick United Church, East
Wawanosh and Knox United, Belgrave.
Pat Cull, Steven Coultes, Ross Higgins
and .John R Taylor passed the offertory
plates.
Mr. King, a farmer and layman, used
Jereiniah's letter to the exiles.
Mr. King read a preliminary drafted let-
ter stating farm statistics. Farmers ways
must be re -directed. Introduce new crop
rotation, return lands to forest including
marginal lands and fence rows. This is a
practical use which the church can use.
Following the singing of the benediction
by the choir a hot meal was served in the
school room.
Euchre Results
Ten tables were in play at the weekly
euchre which was held in the WI Hall on
February 18.
Winners were: high lady - Mrs. Lorne
Jamieson; novelty lady - Mrs. Jean Pat-
tison: low lady - Mrs. Garner Nicholson;
lucky draw lady - Florence Black; high man
- Marj Coultes, I playing as a man); novelty
man - Jim Coultes; low man - Bert Johnston
and lucky draw Alan - John Currie.

'College Lindsay is spending a weeks vaca-
tion at his home RR 5 Brussels.
Trinity Anglican Church, will host the an-
nual World Day of Prayer, March 6 at 2 p.m.
and this year marks the 100th Birthday oft
World Day of Prayer.
The theme is Come and Rejoice.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Amanda Zettler of RR 4 Walkerton visited
with her grandmother Elizabeth Procter on
Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Paff of London and Mr.
and Mrs. Doug Paff and baby Jason of Dut-
ton visited with the formers parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Leslie Vincent on Saturday. Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence Hanna returned home
last Monday after attending the wedding of
their granddaughter Joanne Hanna
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Hanna of
.,1'dorth.$,attleford, Sask. to Lyle Knowlton of
Turtleford Sask. on Saturday, January 31 at
2 p.m. in the North Battleford United
Church.
WI Meet
The Agriculture meeting of the Belgrave
Women's Institute was held in the Belgrave
WI Hall on February 17. at 12 p.rn. A good
crowd enjoyed the many varied pot -luck
casserole, salads and desserts.
Mrs. Norman Coultes was the convenor
and the Motto was willful waste makes
woeful want.
The roll call was answered by the
members stating several ways to prevent '
pollution. There was a short sing -song con-
ducted by Mrs. Glenn Coultes.
The guest speaker was Norman Alex-
ander of l,ondesboro who is drainage
superintendent for the Township of Hullett.
It is in connection with this job that Mr.
Alexander has become very concerned
about soil erosion. wind erosion and pollu-
tion in the area.
He gave a slide presentation to illustrate
his informative talk and handed out infor-
mation sheets to all who were interested and
he urged everyone present to do something
to help correct the situation
Mrs. Glenn Coultes thanked Mr and Mrs
Alexander. Mrs. Jim Hunter, vice-
president. was in charge of the business
meeting.
