Londesboro's Cheerio Club welcomed with a poem

LONDESBORO - The Cheerio Chab
meeting was held here on February 18 at the
home of Dora Shobbrook.
Dora welcomed all and read a poem on
welcomes before roll call was answered by
eight rrlembers and one visitor, Margaret
Taylor.
In correspondence thanks were received
from Clara Riley, Bob Burns, and the Lung
Association.
The treasurer's report showed a balance
of $22.54. A draw donated by Beth Knox was
won by Tri Duizer. All present signed.a sym-
pathy card for the Sottiaux' family.
A few readings were given by Estella
Adams and Dora Shobbrook before a contest
on girls' names by Estella Adams was won
by Vietta Hoggart. A contest on names of
people by Dora was won by June Fothergill.
Lunch was served by Estella and Dora.
4 Shuffleboard, WI Cards
On February 18 there were nine players
out for shuffleboard. The high score went to
Jack Lee.
. The next games will be played on
February 25.
There were 11 tables out for WI cards on
February 20.
Dorothy Daer and Allen Shaddick had the
high, while Betty Hulley and Harvey
Dolmage had the lone hands. June
Fothergill and Elizabeth Lawson, playing as
a man, had the low.
4-H Club
The second meeting of the 4-H Club, Sur-
viving With Style, was held on February 16
at the home of Elizabeth Lawson.
They discussed nutrition and how to make
a meal look appealing.
The youth leader, Lori Bromley, showed
the members how to select from Canada's
Food Guide, and different ways of meal
planning.
The members split into two groups. One
group cooked pizzas, magic mocha mix and
a hot drink. The other group tested their
skills by playing a game. They all ended
with the clean-up.
The next meeting will be at. Sandra
Mayberry 's.
United Church News
The UCW's celebration of the 25th an-
niversary was held on February 22.
Greeting mernbers to the service were
Dorothy Tamblyn and Marion Snell, while
the ushers were Norma Glousher, Betty
Millar, Bernice Norman and Margaret
Good.
The call to worship was given with Mar-
jorie Duizer as the leader. The following an-
nouncements were given by Kitty
McGregor. The flowers on the memoriam
stand were in loving memory of Bill Sot-
tiaux. They were presented by his family.
On March 6 at 8 p.m. there will be World's
Day of Prayer. Church members are asked
to remember that work has been scheduled
for February 27 and 28, and the contact peo-
ple are Gordon Shobbrook and Trudy
Pollard.
Children's time was given by Kitty
McGregor and the junior teachers were
Florence Cartwright and Brent Radford.
Joan Whyte announced the call to respond
and the scripture' was read by Beryl Reid.
The choir anthem was with the ladies' choir,
with organist Deanna ion and director
Marsha Szusz. The scripture was read by
Jean Scott.
Gail Lear introduced the guest speaker,
Alma Langford, President of the Huron -
Perth Presbytery, from Exeter. She
discussed the many things the UCW have
done, and gave a list of studies carried out
over 25 years as well as discussing the
studies still ahead.
Mary Peel gave a' reading, and a prayer of
dedication of offering. A litany of prayers
was given by leader Betty Hulley. Hattie
Wood lit the , first candle for the candle
lighting from the service in 1962. Brenda
Radford lit the candle for present and
Darlene Hulley for the future.

UCW by Joan Whyte.
Joan thanked all who participated in any
way, especially the guest speaker Alma
Langford.
After the closing hymn, Audrey Thomp-
son and Dora Shobbrook accompanied Mrs.
Langford to the door.

Woodstock visited her mother, Dora Shob-
brook, on the weekend.
Evelyn Sweeney returned to her ,home in
Chateauguary on February 22 after spen-
ding a few days with her daughter, Dorothy
Sottiaux and family.

LONDESBORO - The Explorer Girls met
in Londesboro United Church on February
11. TheAgirls and Mrs. Taylor were wearing
the "Red".
Rhonda Howatt and Pam Saluerda did the
Explorer emblem. Lisa Finch read the
picture.
The collection of $4.50 was taken. Since
the Explorer meeting was near Valentine's
Church holds
WALTON - Universal Day of Prayer for
students was observed Sunday morning at
both Duff's United Church, Walton and
Bluevale United Church.
At Walton, Jim and Linda McDonald were
greeters. Margery Huether was organist
and ushers were Paul McCallum, Brian
Wilbee and Ray Huether.
Rev. Bonnie Lamble's sermon was What
God has United. The junior choir then sang.
Announced was the cancellation of the
junior choir practice on February 26. The of-
ficial board meeting will be held Sunday at 8
p.m. at the home of Dianne and Paul
McCallum.
Day, they played some games and had some
Valentine treats. Two big cakes, cupcakes,
cookies, a punch and candy.
They all looked under our chairs to see if
they had a heart under it. Christy Scott's
chair was the lucky one so she won a prize.
Looking the most Valentinish was Mandy
Hadenko, Paula Allen and Kelly Bosman.
Angela Horbanuik and Mandy Medd tied for
having the most red things on. Cheri Taylor
and Angela Horbanuik won for guessing how
many Valentines there were in a jar.
Paula Allen, Kerrie Szusz and Cheri
Taylor got a prize for having their memory
work done first. , ogle of the girls completed
their memory work and continued with their
knitting. Some of the girls were purling.
They also added some more squares to our
Quilt. Thanks to Nancy Allen for helping
with the meeting.
Universal Day of Prayer
March 4 at 7:30 p.m. is the United Church
Women's general meeting. March 6 is the
World Day of Prayer in Brussels. March 8 is
the first Sunday of Lent and the sacrament
of Holy Communion.
The confirmation class met Sunday after-
noon from 2 to 4 p.m. The Youth Group met
at 7:15 p.m. at Brussels Public School for a
volleyball game.
Celebrates Birthday
Supper guests with Nelson and Annie Reid
on February 16 were Campbell and Edith
Wey, Douglas and Margorie Fraser and
Ruth Thamer. It was Nelson's 91st birthday.
Winter Games
Ron Vercruyssen of RR 2 Blyth, a senior
student at Seaforth District High School is
participating this week on the Ontario
basketball team in the Winter Games at
Sydney, Nova Scotia.
WI Notes
The Walton Women's Institute held a suc-
cessful turkey luncheon in their hall on
February 18. Over 100 people attended. The
next luncheon is set for March 18.
Institute members met later for some
business. Plans were made for two meals
that are to be served for Cook's on February
26 and March 2 at the Brussels Community
Centre.

BLYTH - 'There were seven tables of lost
heir in play at the mminorial hall here on
February 18.
Dorothy Daer was the high lady, while
Alvin Snell had the high for the men. For the
low scores Mary Holland was the winner for
the ladies while Ruth Sheill, playing as a
man, was the winner for the men.
The next games will be played on
February 25.

euchre results
BLYTH - Enough enthusiasts turned out
for euchre this week to put 11 tables in play.
Taking the high honors were Marion Hag-
gitt and Clara Rinn while Lillian Patterson
and Len Shobbrook had the low hands.
Roberta Simpson and Alan Shaddick were
the lone hand winners. Special prize went to
Jane Glousher.
Another card party will be held on March
2.
