Auxiliary
embarks
on ,fund
raising
event
BLYTH — The Legion Ladies Auxiliary to
Br. 420 are speArheading a fund raising
campaign to i{rstall a handica'j5ped lift in the
Blyth Community Centre. The lift will cost
approximately $30,000 including taxes and
installation and will be most helpful to the
handicapped and elderly in the community.
The Blyth Council has approved use of
their registered charitable donation number
so all donations will be eligible for income
tax deductions and can be made out to Blyth
and District Community Centre Board
Building Fund. The project commenced
fund raising activities January 12 and to
date has donations or pledges from the
following: Blyth Trinity Anglican Church
Women, $1,000; Blyth Lions Club Pledge
$2,000; Blyth Legion Ladies Auxiliary,
$5,000; Blyth Legion Branch 420 Pledge
35,000; Don and Lenore Scrimegour, $50;
Bill and Jean Little, $25; Jack and Helen
Lee; $100; Blyth Broomball League, $1,000;
Blyth Legion Ladies Auxiliary additional
Pledge $500.
The Girls Guides and youth in the com-
munity donated of their time and energy
selling chocolate bars in Blyth and Auburn
— sales were great. Many interested com-
munity volunteers are selling tickets or giv-
ing a home to one of the money jars for
donations. Join in the community effort by
contacting any Legion Ladies Auxiliary
member with your donations.
Salaries set for Blyth councillors
BLYTH - During their meeting here on
February 10, council set their own salaries
as well as those of village employees.
While the councillors will receive $1,080
for the year, Reeve Albert Wasson will
make $575 for his duties over the year. For
attending conventions 11 nd out of town
meetings councillors will recieve $66 per
day or $50 for half days. They will also
receive $30 for special and extra committee
meetings.
The town foreman will be making $9.40 an
hour based on a 44 hour week, and overtime
of $14.10 above that, while his assistant will
bring in $8,85 an hour. Casual labor will
receive $7.80 an hour and the secretary will
make $8.
The cost for garbage collection will be $42
an hour for the crew and truck, while the
janitor for the village offices will be paid $95
a month.
New councillor needed
BLYTH - Following the resignation of
Councillor Tom Cronin at their January
meeting, council here is looking for a local
citizen to fill his seat.
During their meeting on February 10,
council moved to accept applications for the
vacant seat until 4:30 p.rn. on February 27.
- A letter of "consent to stand” must ac-
company each nomination for the open seat.
Council hopes to choose a new councillor
during their March 10 meeting.
Blyth takes Clinton, 5-2

BLYTH - The Tykes played against Clin-
ton on Saturday here. A good game was
played by both teams. Cory Shannon was
goaltender for the game.
Six minutes into the first period Mark
"Sparky” Wilson scored the first goal for.
Blyth assisted by Darryl Bromley. An at-
tempt was made moments later by Clinton
but was stopped by Cory in net.
With four minutes left in that period, Jeff
Johnston passed the puck to Darryl
Bromley who shot from right wing and the
puck went into the net. Then, with a minute
remaining, Jeff Cowan scored an unassisted
goal bringing the score to 3-0 at the end of
the first period.
Three minutes into the second period Jeff
Cowan scored another unassisted goal,
followed by Clinton scoring two goals. The
score was now 4-2 for Blyth.
In the third period there were numerous
shots on both nets but none that counted till
five minutes remaining, Jeff Cowan scored
his third unassisted goal of the game bring-
ing the final score to 5-2 for Blyth.
Hensall 9 - Blyth 5
Sunday afternoon a makeup game bet-
ween the Blyth Tykes and Hensall was held
in Blyth.
An exciting game followed. Blyth had
their work cut out for them as this was a
strong team. Goaltender for the game was
Shane Burkholder.
Three minutes into the game,
defenceman, Cory Shannon stick handled
the puck down the ice past the Hensall
players and shot the puck across the ice to
Mark "Sparky" Wilson who was in front of
the net. Mark caught the puck and shot it in-
to the net to the surprise of the Hensall
goaltender. Jeff Cowan scored the second
goal assisted by Darryl Bromley.
An attempt was made moments later by
Jeff Cowan but was stopped by Hensall's
goaltender. Hensall attempted a slap shot
on Blyth's net but was stopped by Shane.
Four minutes remaining Hensall got a
break away and scored their first goal. Less
than a minute later Jeff Cowan scored the
third goal of the game.
Hensall scored again one and a half
minutes later.
Only 20 seconds remaining in the. first
period, defenseman, Cory Shannon took the
puck from a Hensall player who had posi-
tioned himself behind the Hensall net.
While he was debating, which way he
should go, Cory brought the puck out from
behind the net and scored Blyth's fourth
goal. The score was now 4-2 for Blyth.
Four more goals were scored by Hensall
in the second period.
Less than a minute into the third period
Hensall scored their sixth goal. Defense was
doing a super job, but the Hensall players
seemed to be just getting warmed up and
scored two more goals.
Four minutes remaining in the game
Mark "Sparky"Wilson scored his second
goal of the game assisted by Scott Bromley.
The final score was 9-5 for Hensall. Blyth
had played a good game against a strong
team.
The next game will he on Saturday
against Zurich at 10 a.m. in Blyth.
Co-op student assists teachers
Kevin Souch
Anita Bos, a Grade 12 student at Central
Huron Secondary School, is involved in the
high school's Co-op program. Anita was
placed in Blyth Public School every other
afternoon to assist teachers with the
physical education program. Anita hopes to
attend college to become a fitness instructor
and a recreational leader. She enjoys work-
ing with children which will give her the ex-
perience she will need when applying for a
job when she is out of college. Students
would like to thank Anita who leads very
energetic warm-up sessions.

This week the school has been kicking a
boy and girl from each class to participate
in a ping-pong tournament, which will be
held at Brookside Public School on March 5.
The students in Grades 5-8 are practicing
hard to prepare for this event. The cham-
pions are: Jerrod Button, Amber Gelwicks,
Jason Elliott, Erin Bolger, Phillip Hubbard,
and Tamara Bearss. The students' coach is
Mr. G. Yeats.
Public Speeches
All of the students have been busily
preparing and memorizing their speeches
recently. The winners from each grade level
have been chosen. The results, beginning
