Stewardship is theme
KIPPEN - On February 10 Mildred
MacGregor opened the meeting with a
Valentine's Poem. Frances Kinsman led the
worship with the theme on Stewardship and
Love. Helen MacLean based her topic on
Stewardship, Helen explained what happens
to the Mission and Service funds when they
leave the local church. '1'he topic was then
concluded with a skit. Mabel Kyle, Pat Love
and Helen MacLean were the cast. Mary
Broadfoot accompanied the hymns on the
piano.
Pat Love and Lauren Love were the
hostesses and served lunch following the
Meeting. The roll call was answered by br-
inging a treat for Queensway. The UCW
group entertained the residents of
Queensway at bingo during the month of
February.
News Of St. Andrews
On February 15, Barbara Cooper accom-
panied the hymns on the organ. Rev. Lorne
Keays sermon was on the Fourth Church in
the series from Revelations. The annual
congregational meeting will take place on
February 22. It will be held after a pot -luck
lunch of sandwiches, cookies, etc. The lunch
will follow the regular church service con-
gregation members please plan to attend
this important event in the church.
St Andrews Sunday School is going to have
a toboggan party on Sunday afternoon,
March 1 at 3 p.m. at Lyle Kinsman's. To get
to Lyles, turn east at the Big '•0" and drive
for two and a quThter miles. After toboggan-
ing everyone is welcome back t,) Kippen
Church for hot dogs, hot chocolate, and
dessert.
Please note each family is to supply their
own hot dogs and dessert, the hot chocolate
will be supplied by the Sunday Schdol.
Personals
Al and Margaret Hoggarth paid a visit to
their daughter Janet in London on February
15. Janet was unable to get home to Kippen
for several weekends because of exams and
the inclimate weather,

Valentine's poem opens UCW meeting

HENSALL — Florence Slade welcomed
Hensall Unit II ladies to the recent United
Church Women meeting and read a Valen-
tine's poem.
Eleanor Mansfield opened her devotion
with everyone repeating Psalm 1, which
lead her into thoughts of love and sharing.
The offering was taken and dedicated by
Florence.
Eleven members and tw* guest answered
the roll call by naming their favorite hymn.
Shirley McAllister showed slides of her trip
to Scotland and the Hebrides taken last
summer.
Helen MacLean conducted the business.
There will be a general meeting March 2.
The annual beef barbecue will be held April
8.
Florence dosed the meeting with a
reading and all repeated the Mizpah
benediction.
A silent auction bake sale was held to
raise funds for their project. Shirley
McAllister won entrance to the Upjversity of
Slobovia.
Dorothy Corbett and Hazel Corbett served
a delicious lunch.
IOOF Meeting
The IOOF of Hensall held their regular
meeting on February 5 with an official visit
by District Deputy Grand Master Fred
Dalbridge who gave an inspiring message.
Following the business a delicious lunch
was served. The next meeting will be on
March 5. An OPP officer will visit to speak
about breathalrher tests.
Tyke Hockey
Hensall Tyke Hockey team won against
Zurich on Saturday. The final score was 5-4
with Mark Bell ,scoring all five Hensall
goals. The Hensall player of the 'game
award went to goalie Eric Groot who played
an excellent game.
The Novice team lost an exhibition game
to the Blyth travelling team last Wednesday
in Blyth. The score was 5-2 with Hensall
goals by Chris Taylor and Blair Moir.
The Novices defeated Bayfield early
Saturday morning by a score of 6-0, a shut-
out for goalie, Philip Ingram. Hensall goal
scorers were Greg Keyes, Ryan Kyle, Ray
Beirling, Blair Moir, Chris Taylor and Dan
Taylor.
Public Speaking
Hensall Public School held their public
speaking competition on Friday. Winners.
took part last night, February 17, in the
Royal Canadian Legion Speaking Contest.
Poster Contest
The Department of the Secretary of State
is sponsoring a poster contest to com-
memorate the 40th anniversary of Canadian
citizenship. The prize is an all expense paid
trip to Ottawa for the winner and family on
July 1.
The theme of the contest is "What It
Means To Be A Canadian."
The rules are: Every Canadian citizen
can enter. Only one entry/person, posters
should be 15 inches by 20 inches. Three
dimensional materials are not allowed.
Photographs may not be used. Print your
name, address and phone number on the
back of the poster and include a short note
explaining the image or theme of your
entry.

Special Meeting
There will be a special meeting at the
Nursery School on February 24. There will
be guest speakers dealing with the theme
"The Transitions from Nursery School to
Kindergarten". Everyone is welcome.
The Hensall Volunteer Fire Department
will be holding a euchre tournament on
February 21 at 12:30 p.m. in the fire hall.
You may enter as an individual or team and
everyone is welcome.
Winner of the first draw for one years
worth free groceries is Betty Jinks of Hen-
sall! Also, Florence Slade won $50 cash.
Shuffleboard
The Happy Pushers were pleased to have
6 members of Exeter Shufflers joining them
on February 12. High ladies were; Irene
Finlayson, 485; 011ie Essery, 438; Betty
Grenier, 405. Men's high scores were;
Walter Spencer, 375, Alf Ross, 360; John
Pepper, 357.
The Three Links Seniors held their
regular meeting February 10 with a good at-
tendance by members. They were welcom-
ed by President Aldeen Volland.
The annual rally will be held at the
Dashwood Community Centre on April 7.
The Three Links will sponsor a euchre on
February 24 at 8 p.m. in the club rooms.

Two former members honored by ladies
CLINTON - The Afternoon Unit of Ontario
Street United Church met in the Ladies'
Parlor with 26 members in attendance. A
minute silence was observed for Lorna Rad-
ford and Ida Martin who died recently. •
Marion spoke of these two faithful
members.
Evelyn Olde and her group took charge of
devotions and program. Evelyn opened the
meeting with a hymn. Margaret Dale read

given and Edith Wright read the thank you

Vera MacDonald gave a splendid report
on Huron Presbyterial.
Lula reported 23 tea towels from their
group. Flowers for February are being look-
ed after by the group. Mizpah Benediction
closed the meeting.
