Pee Wees sweep series
three straight games
On February 5 the local PeeWees traveled
to Durham for game two of their OMHA best
of five series. '
After a sluggish start and some ragged
play by both teams someone finally told the
local boys they were in a hockey game and
'they responded with four straight goals in
the last three minutes; three of them in 19
seconds.
Scott Jewitt tallied the first two on assists
from Shawn Chipchase before Chipchase
scored one of his own with assists going to
Jason Carter and John Bezaire. Jason
McAsh closed out the period on g'set up from
Scott Koetsier.
Jason Fleet upped the count to 5-0 with an
unassisted goal in the second frame before
Durham replied with two of their own. Kerr
Bell and Mike Watson did the scoring.
In the third period Chipchase added his se-
cond of the night from Carter 'as did Fleet
with an assist from Matt Townsend.
Mark Campbell closed out the scoring for
Durham as his weak shot from the point
.with 10 seconds left eluded goalie Danny
Dupee who had replaced starter Darren
Stevenson in the third period.
Once again the Local boys stuck to hockey
as they were penalized only three times
compared to six minors for Durham.
On February 7 Clinton again made the
trek to Durham for what proved to be the
third and final game.
Neither team showed much drive in this
Sports
contest as it looked like everyone was wear-
ing shoes.
Mike Watson ` opened the scoring for
Durham and Jason Carter replied for Clin-
ton in the first period. Chipchase and Jewitt
'drew assists.
Chipchase then gave the locals a short-
lived lead on a setup from Jewitt.
Mike Hastie was quick to tie it for
Durham, before they local boys finally
started to skate.
Replacing starting goaltender Danny
Dupee with Darren Stevenson seemed to
spark the team a little as Jason Fleet rap-
ped in two quick ones before the end of the
second. Chipchase and Jewitt assisted on
the first while Jewitt and Scott Koetsier set
up the second.
The third period was dominated by Clin-
ton as they scored three unanswered goals
to wrap up the series. Jewitt from Carter,
McAsh from Chris .Johnson and Scott
Rothwell, and Fleet with his third of the
night from Carter did the scoring.
With a bye in the next round Clinton will
now wait on the winner of the Wingham-
Seaforth series to challenge for the WOAA
crown and OMHA representative.
With a week off for practice the PeeWees
will take on Exeter on Minor Hockey Day,
February 13, at 8:15 p.m.
The next series will start the following
week.
