Jean Johns. -05x Novice Bs come from behind for 3-2 win over Blyth On January 20, Blyth came to town only to be edged 3-2 by the local Novice B squad. At the 7:14 min. mark of the first period Brad Anderson assisted by Jason McDougall put Blyth ahead by one. At 11:16 of the second period Joseph Bolond's low shot just inside the left post evened the score. Assisting on this goal were Clinton's Steven King and Brennen Crawford. - ° Then both teams traded goals with Clin- ton's Chad Chipchase assisted by Justin Jankowski and Kevin McKay only to leave Blyth's Chris.Stewart assisted by Chad Hog- git and Ben Craig to tie the score. With 2:56 left in the third period Darryl DeRuyter notched the winner with Chad Chipchase taking the initial shot forcing the goalie low, Darryl lifted one into the top cor- ner to squeeze out the win. On January 24 and 25 the Novice team travelled to the annual Tillsonburg tournament. In the first game Clinton was°out done by Port Dover 7-3 to drop them to the B division. Playing a strong game for Clinton was Steven King with two goals. The other tally came off the stick of Jeff Lobb with assists going to Chad Chipchase with two, and singles to Kevin McKay, Tod Shaddick and Darryl DeRuyter. The score was tied after two peiods and with a few breaks Clinton might have had more success. However, this loss only stirred the anger of the whole team, esPecially Chad Chip - chase, who led his team to victory in the next game against Simcoe. Scoring for Clinton was "Chipper" with three and assists going to Steven King, Jacob Kipfer, Joseph Balond, Darryl DeRuyter, Todd Shaddick and Jeff Lobb. This, put Clinton into the B consolation final on Sunday against Norwick. Still prun- ed from the previous game the whole team dug deep to come away with a 3-1 victory earning them the B crown along with in- dividual medalions. Scoring for Clinton was Chad Chipchase from Steven King and Darryl DeRuyter, Chipchase from Brennan Crawford, and Steven King, and Chipchase from Darryl DeRuyter and Justin Jankowski. A special mention to captain Todd Shad - dick and his defensive crew of Kevin McKay, Justin Jankowski and Jacob Kipfer for a strong effort along the blue line and Chris Storey for a strong performance in net. Congratulations to this team, considering, of the nine players present, five are still of mite age. On January 27 they travelled to Wingham and again notched a close one in the win col- umn by a 2-1 margin. Scoring for Clinton was Chad Chipchase from Darryl DeRuyter and Steven King at 9:20 of the first period. Wingham tied the score at 3:19 of period two. This time it was Jeff "Bryan" Lobb's turn for the winner with, 2:40 remaining in the game with assists going to Todd Shaddick, . and Joseph Bpland. On February 1 the Goderich Blues come to town only ,to. get out -scored 7-2. Before the game was six minutes old Clinton had a 3-0 lead on goals by Todd Shaddick assisted by Chipchase and King, Chipchase assisted by Shaddick and DeRuyter, and Darryl DeRuyter assisted by Chipchase and Shaddick. With 13 seconds left in the second period Jeff Lobb from. Darryl DeRuyter and Chad Chipchase made it 4-0. Goderich's Mark Johnston spoiled Chris Storey's shut out bid at 4:46 of the third only to have "Chipper" storm back with a hat trick of his own. Two of these goals were unassisted while the other was assisted by Darryl DeRuyter. With 1:58 remaining Mark Johnston scored his second for the visitors. At this time the team members and coaches would like to wish Robbie Kempf a speedy recovery as he has been out with pneumonia for some time. The Family of Bruce McClinchey.-5 The annual Hensall District Co-operative Bonspiel was held at the Vanastra Curling Club on January 31. The club sang with laughter, as once a year curlers twice a year curlers, and sup- posedly curlers joined together for a fun - filled day. John Paul Rau's rink captured top place for the day. His rink was skipped by Bob Fotheringham, with Bill Munn vicing, Don Mousseau curling second and John Paul leading. Murray Adam's rink placed second with members Tom Cunningham, Russ Faber and Bill Shaddick. In third place was Allan Hayter's rink with Barry Taylor, Bob Norman and Bill Douson. Every curler was the recipient of a gift. Thanks to the sponsors of this great event, Hensall District Co-operative. Did you ever hear of planning to curl in one bonspiel, but end up curling in another and walking away with the trophy? Well, that's what happened to a rink from the Vanastra Curling Club recently. Vaca- tioning, Bob Allan, told his son to sign him up, into a certain Bonspiel when he was away. He did as dad said, but entered him in the wrong spiel. So, it was off to Thedford to try their luck and meet new acquaintances. What a day! They won all three games with the max- imum number of points allowed each game and captured the trophy. Skip Bob Allan, with Steve Wilson, Bo.b Peck_and Ken_Faber were the winners of the Petro -Canada Trophy "They sure know where Vanastra Curlers come from now", said spokesman Bob. Way to go guys!
