Atoms participate in Leprachaun tournament
On January 30 the Clinton Atoms travelled
to Lucan to participate in the 14th Annual
Lucan Leprachaun Atom Tournament.
Last year the Atoms won the "C" Cham-
pionship and this year they got off to a good
start by defeating Mitchell 8-3 in their first
game. Led by Danny Wildfong,'s-Sour goals
and Mark Livermore's hat trick the Atoms
easily defeated Mitchell. Nathan Burns add-
ed the other Clinton goal.
Clinton opened up a 2-0 first period lead on
a goal at the 37 second mark by Mark Liver-
more, assisted by Chris Kennedy and Danny
Wildfong and an unassisted marker by Dan-
ny Wildfong at 9:14.
At the end of the second period, a period
completely dominated by Clinton, the score
showed 7-2 in Clinton's favour. Scoring in
the second period for Clinton was Danny
Wildfong and Mark Livermore with two
goals apiece and a single marker by Nathan
Burns.
In the third stanza the teams traded goals.
Danny Wildfong earned his fourth of the
game at 7:48.
Clinton 3 - St. Clements 2
On January 31, Clinton battled back from
a 2-0 St. Clements lead with two goals in the
third period and a dramatic overtime goal
by Danny Wildfong in overtime to win the
game 3-2.
There was no scoring in the first period as
Clinton outshot St. Clements 10-1. The only
goal of the second period belonged to St.
Clements as they scored a short-handed
goal in the last minute of the play in the
period.
In the third period, St. Clements took a 2-0
lead on Jody Moser's second goal of the
game at 1:01.
Just 58 seconds later Clinton cut the St.
Clement's lead to 2-1 on an unassisted
marker by Danny Wildfong. With Clinton
pressing for the equalizer they were reward-
ed at the six minute mark as Chris Kennedy
scored on a goal -mouth scramble after
several good whacks by Mark Livermore
and Danny Wildfong.
In the overtime session with only 52
seconds gone Mark Livermore intercepted a
pass just outside the St. Clements blueline.
As he carried the puck over the blueline he
fed an excellent pass to left winger Danny
Wildfong who made -no mistake as his 70th
goal of file season bent the goalie high into
the right hand corner.
With the dramatic victory Clinton advanc-
ed to the championship game Exeter.
