The Clinton and District Christian School participated in the World Book Encyclopedia
Read-a-thon for seven weeks last fall with 1I3 students taking part. These students read a
total of 1,576 books, raising $3,221 which, for every $2, they earned $1 from World Book,
making that amount $1,610.50. With this money, the school purchased six sets of the 1987
World Book Encyclopedia, six sets of Childcraft, three sets of the World Book Dictionary
and one set of the Science encyclopedia. Mrs. Roorda's Grade 4 students (above) com-
bined to be the top class and earned a free set of Science Encyclopedia for having the
highest average books per student. At that time, read-a-thon organizers said these were
the highest results in Canada. At a special ceremony on January 26, each student was
presented with an encyclopedia. Those who read seven books and had seven sponsors
earned a certificate; those who read eight books and had eight sponors earned a silver
medal and those who read 10 books and had 10 sponsors earned a gold medal. I Anne

defense before they reached the net. Hensall
attempted another shot on net but was stop-
ped by Blyths goaltender. Jeff Johnston had
the puck and passed it to Jeff Cowan who
scored his third goal. A forcefulshot by Hen-
sall was stopped by Shane and the puck went
flying above the net.
Three and a half minutesleft in the second
period Hensall's No. 14 - Chris Vones passed
the puck to their No. 2 - Brock Wiess who
shot and scored their second goal. The score
was now 3-2.
The third period entered with a
breakaway by Jeff Ferguson who shot and
scored bringing the store to 4-2.
With only nine players to change -off, some
players were playing two shifts back to
back. Blyth was playing an excellent game,
passing,,the puck to fellow teammates and
matching Hensalls skills play for play, but
they were getting tired, unable to rest for a
few minutes in between line changes.
Hensall's Mark Bell was well rested and
ready to go in the third period. He shot on
net, but Shane was ready. A minute later he
shot again. This time it counted. In front of
Blyth's net Mark, No. 10, again got the puck
from one of the Blyth players, he shot and it
sneaked between Shane's legs for a tie of 4-4.
An attempt was made on Hensall's net by
Jeff Cowan but to no avail.
Hensall player, No. 8, - Regan Neilands
passed the puck to his teammate No. 2 -
Brock Weiss who shot the puck and scored
the deciding goal with only a minute and
four seconds left in the game.
The Blyth Tykes came home with a defeat
of 5-4 but with the confidence of knowing
they played one of their best games.
