CAC prepares
for act II
CLINTON - TFLe second performance in
the Clinton Arts Committee's Entertain-
ment Series is nearly upon us. The Seaforth
Harmony Kings and Harmony Hi-lites are to
Ire featured. This group of enthusiastic peo-
ple come from all walks of life, but have two
things in common: they come from the
Seaforth area, and they love to sing, Barber-
shop Harmony. Fe% have formal musical
training. '
The men's group, cdlittd the Harmony
Kings, began singing together in 1983, and
evolved from an initial membership of
about 10 singers. The ladies' group, the Hi-
lites, began singjlg together in 1985. Many
of the ladies are wives of the men in the
'Kings'.
' The 'Kings' are members of an Interna-
' tional Society, called:. "Society for the
Preservation and Encouragement of
Barbershop Quartet Singing in America",
or SPEBSQSA. There are two registered
quartets within the 'Kings' group. The Hi-
lites also have a registered quartet, that
won the right to compete in an International
competition in St. John, New Brunswick in
November 1986. The two groups perform
about 15 tinges per year, and perform
together about three times per year. Clinton
is fortunate to be able to hear both groups on
February 7. The proceeds from the King's
and Hi-lites' performances are donated to
the Institute for Logopedics, an organization
which helps children who have hearing and
speech impediments.
The director of the Men's group is Barry
Mahon. Mr. Mahon began singing Barber-
shop harmony with a group in Oakville and
then moved to this area. He th'r7i became a
member of the Stratford group, which has
since dissolved. He became a member of a
quartet in the Seaforth area, and in 1985,
started the Seaforth Harmony Kings group
with about 10 other interested singers.
The Hi-lites' director, Margaret Whit-
more, is the Choir Director for Northside
United Church in Seaforth and has extensive
musical training behind her.
The Seaforth Harmony Kings and Har-
mony Hi-lites will begin their performance
at 7:59 p.m. ( you can set your watch by it),
so be sure to be prompt. There are two door
prizes to be given away, to add tothis
already exciting evening. The doors of the
Clinton Town Hall will open at 7:30 p.m.
Refreshments will be available.
The Amateur Theatre group, called the
Clinton Community Players, who recently
put on the hilarious performance of
("Lover's Leap", report a profit of $400,
which will be added to funds being saved
towards stage lighting for the town hall
auditorium.
The CAC has been busy programing next
year's subscription series. There will be
four performances featured in the Adult
Series and there will also be a Children's
Series, with three performances. The book-
ing of these performers is taking place
presently, and more specific information
will be available shortly. A brochure outlin-
ing the adult's and children's series as well
as ticket vouchers will be available at the
final performance of this year's series.
The gala evening which had been original-
ly planned for the fall of 1986 to raise money
for stage lighting has been postponed until
further notice.
Further information about the CAC's ac-
tivities can be obtained through the town
hall, at 482-3997.

The Sloman School Car Park now has a new attraction in the old Clinton Public School
bell tower. The tower was donated to the park by the VanDammes who used the structure
as a gazebo. It was moved by Clinton Public Works, Clinton Public Utilities Commission
and Bluewater Cable employees. Here Clinton's Public Works Superintendent, Harold
Gibbings, takes a closer look. (Anne Narejko photo)
