The combined choir also sang and the senior choir sang an anthem. The service consisted of many of the favoritecarols interspersed by scripture readings of the Christmas story. Readers were Mrs. Glenn Coultes, Mrs. John Roberts, Mrs. Gordon Bosman, John Nixon, Murray Scott and John Campbell. The final Advent Candle was lit by Rev. John G. Roberts who took as the theme of his address Light - the Light that came into the world with the birth of Jesus at Christmas. At the close of the service the choir members, each with an unlit candle, took ;their places along the two 'aisles of the church. Rev. Roberts lit a candle from We flame of the Christmas Advent Candle and then lit the candle of the first choir members in each row. They in turn passed the flame to the next in line until the whole church was illuminated from the central Advent Candle. The carol, Silent Night, was sung and following the benediction the choir left the church to the hymn, Joy to the World. Euchre Sixty-seven attended the New Year's par- ty held in the WI Hall on December 31. Thir- teen tables of euchre were in play starting at 8 p.m. Winners were high lady, Mrs. Harold Vincent; second high lady, Mrs. Lewis These seven guys were kept busy on January 3 walking from door to door collecting bottles. By noon they had approximately 30 cases containing 12 bottles each. Their goal was to raise funds for their ®group, the Clinton Scouts. (Anne Narejko photo) Northcrest resident returns from hospital By Susan Hartman HENSALL - Wes Heywood has returned from Exeter Hospital after a lengthy illness. *Welcome home, Wes. Ernie and Olga Chipchase visited last Fri- day with Ernie's brother at St. Joseph's Hospital in London. ,kMurray and Sandra Pepper and family, Brussels, visited with Aunt and Uncle Glen and Pearl McKnight on Thursday. Dorothy Munroe returned from two weeks spent with her family in Lucan. Jessie Armstrong spent a few days recent- ly with Betty and Don Flear of Grand Bend. Nan Britton spent Christmas with her son Din and _family in Kitchener and Mabel Shirray `spent h -e holiday wtl:h'her son 1Youg' and family in Tavistock. Ida Dickert is wearing a big smile due to the early but safe arrival of her first great grandchild. Proud parents of a healthy baby girl are Jill and Brian Kipfer of Dashwood. Shuffleboard A small but enthusiastic crowd turned out to Shuffle on Tuesday. Ladies' high scores were: Annie Reid, 414 and Eileen Dowson, 375. Men's high scores were: George Dowson, 313, and John Pepper, 302. Now that the holidays are over, shuffling will return to the Hensall Arena every Thursday. • Personals Velma, Jim and Derek Robinson were deeply saddened last week by the death of Velma's father Harry McLellan. Sympathy is extended to the family. Congratulations to Greg and Liz McAuslan of Hensall on the recent birth of a healthy baby boy. Mrs. Laird Mickle of HenSall and son Charles Mickle of London spent Christmas day with the formers daughter aria son-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacMillan and family in Waterloo. They also spent Boxing Day with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mickle and fami- ly in Exeter for their family's Christmas gathering. Hockey Hensall Tykes defeated Bayfield on Satur- day by a score of 5-3. Hensall goals were scored by Mark Bell with 2, Graham Keys 2, and Chris Jones with one. The Hensall Novice team were "A" runners-up in a tournament held last week in Huron Park. Hensall was defeated in the final game by the Huron Park team by a score of 3-2. South Huron Youth For Christ South Huron YFC held their January meeting with over 200 in attendance. Director Ron Westlake was in charge and opened the rally with a l}Vely sing -song featuring Sharon Parker at the piano. The opening prayer was by Rev. Bob DeGrace of Centralia. Quizzing time followed. The group quizzed on the third chapter of John with results being; Exeter first, Clin- ton second and Goderich third. The next quizzing will be at the March rally and will cover John, Chapter 4. Talent Night Many local performers took part in Talent Night. A piano solo by Chris Westlake of Bayfield was followed by the ladies choir from Faith Tabernacle of Centralia who also performed a skit. The MYF group from Zurich put on two skits. There will be a skating party at Zurich area on February 'Vat 7 p.m. Also Snow Camp in New York on February 13-15. At the March rally, the guest speaker will be Don Hill from London with some special music. Ron Adams, Goderich, favored the group with two solos. A Goderich couple perform- ed a skit. Five Exeter girls, with their leaders, Gladys Talbot and Helen Coutes sang several numbers and put on a skit. Heather Gingrich read a story which she had com- posed herself. Centralia Ladies Choir, featuring Sharon Parker and Cathy Prout, • performed two numbers. Rev.
