"Probably we as a village are more aware
of the problems than the MTC," Reeve
Wasson said. "If we're going to get any in-
put at all, we should get it in early."
To allow people to voice their concerns
Councillor Manning suggested inviting an
MTC representative to come and talk to the
village. '
Fire Area Board
Councillor Cronin passed on the word
from the Fire Area Board that they would
like to see council pass a bylaw to name the
fire chief or a designate as an assistant to
the building inspector,
"In some instances, fire chiefs have been
charged with trespassing when they in-
spected a building for fire damage," Coun-
cillor Manning noted.
Council will be looking further into the
matter at their January meeting.
Correspondence
A letter was received stating that Bill 16
had received a second reading. The bill
states that notices of meetings and agendas
are to be published not less than three days
before a meeting.
Many of the councillors were upset with
this notice as they feel the agenda will stop
them from covering last minute subjects
that arise.
"A lot of things 'come up pretty quickly,
and we won't be able to deal with them,"
Councillor Howson noted. "I don't agree
with this at all. It's getting worse and worse
and worse every year."
However, Councillor Manning pointed out
that there is nothing council can do about
the bill. "The bottom line is, you don't comp-
ly, you don't get grants," he said.
Council also received a resolution from
the City of St. Catherines requesting a com-
plete review of the Municipal Conflict of In-
terest act.
"This is a bit of a can of worms I gather,"
Reeve Wasson said of the act.
"It's hard to interpret some of it as it is at
present," Councillor Manning added. "I
now feel any meetings I attended were kind
of a sham. We're not supposed to stay in the
same room as the issue is being dealt with,
our physical presence in the room can effect
decisions."
Councillor Cronin, pointed out that this
procedure is car'r'ied out at Huron County
Council as he has to leave the room when a
discussion on his place of work arises.
"When a discussion comes up on tenders
or anything like that, I have to leave the
room," he said.
