Locals tell how they
spend their Christmas...
Editor's Note: We often think of people in
countries far away as having unique and ex -
r citing Christmas traditions, but residents
within the News -Record coverage area have
some interesting ways of spending the
- Christmas season too.
For this reason, we decided to pick
1 "Christmas In Your Home Town" as our
1986 Christmas theme.
•Throughout this paper, you'll find stories
'' about some familiar people, you'll discover
what happens at Clinton Public Hospital
during the season, how the Huron County
Christmas Bureau operates and what the
local schools are doing in the way of con-
certs, Christmas art work and stories.
Directly below are a few examples on how
a few residents in Bayfield, Blyth and Clin-
ton 'spend their Christmas season.
Kathy Bromley
. This holiday season will be a busy time for
the News -Record's Blyth correspondent, as
Kathy Bromley and her family will be
celebrating three -Christmases.
Kathy, her husband Bev, and her sons
Chris, 8, and Scott, 6 celebrate their first
Christmas at home on the morning of the big
day. Next they travel to her parents home in
Port • Albert, before travelling to Bev's

parents home just outside Summerhill for a
Boxing Day Christmas celebration.
"Then bingo, it's all over with. It seems
there's so much going on then, bang, it's all
over with," Mrs. Bromley said.
While in past years the Bromleys have
opened their presents early in the morning
then taken off to her parents' home, things
will be a bit different this, year. As Bev is
working during the day, and because the
children are older, she said they will take
some time and let the kids play with their
new toys before taking off.
Once they do arrive at their first destina-
tion, there will be many, relatives to greet
them, as Kathy has seven brothers and
sisters. There will be 22 members of the
family in all at her parents' home.
She noted that this is one of her favorite
things about Christmas. "Some families
branch off, but I like it this way with the
family all together. For me and one brother
(from Timmins) it is like a family reunion."
Kathy is very appreciative of the fact that
Bev's parents wait their. Christmas until
Boxing Day.
"She (Bev's mother) hasvvorked allalong
with us over the years. It's kind of official
that Christmas is Boxing Day at the
Bromley's. It's nice that we don't have to
rush to one place for dinner and the other for
supper."

SPECIAL HOLIDAY HOURS
For Christmas this year she said her sons
have been asking for anything connected to
hockey. "My boys are sports freaks, and
all I've been hearing is Cooperalls, sticks
and gloves," she explained. "Ill the summer
it's anything to do with baseball."
Aside from being with her family, Kathy
said another highlight of her Christmas is
opening the gifts. Bev added jokingly, "Yes,
watching the kids, all three of them."
There are two Christmases that really
stand out in Kathy's mind, the first being the
time she found out there was no Santa Claus.
"I'll never forget the year we caught our
parents putting presents under the tree.
They sent us back to bed and they wouldn't
let us open them," she said.
The second memorable celebration occur-
red two years ago, before her brother died
from Muscular Dystrophy. "We knew he
didn't have much farther to go, but he was
always the life of the party, joking around.
It brings tears to your eyes the way he
handled it."
