Clinton and district obituaries
on December 15, 1945 in Brighton, Sussex,
England and returned to Canada to live in
Bayfield where Mr. Sturgeon worked for the
first few years as a commercial fisherman.
In 1951, he started to work at the Radar
School where he stayed for the next 14
years. With his new job at the base, the
Sturgeons moved to Clinton where they have
been residents ever since.
Mr. Sturgeon is survived by his wife, one
sister, Audrey Florian of Clinton.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs.
Jack (Berthena) Hammond

two
brothers, Newton and George Sturgeon.
A funeral service was held on December 5

Flower bearers were Dennis Florian and
Robbie McCool and active pallbearers were
Wayne Lancaster, Brown Lindsay, James
Martin, Bev McClinchey, Robert McCool
and Donald McLeod.
Interment in Bayfield Cemetery.
Dr. John D'Arcy Charles Bruce
Dr. John D'Arcy Charles Bruce, of
Bayfield and formerly of Sarnia, died on'
December 2 at his residence. He was 69
years old.
On January 15, 1917, Dr. Bruce was born
in Winnipeg, Manitoba to the late Randolph
Douglas and Catherine Louisa (Sinclair)
Bruce. After graduating from the Faculty of
Medicine at The University of Manitoba in
1941, he married Helen Jean MacKenzie in
Moosejaw, Saskatchewan on December 30,
1942.
Dr. Bruce served in the RCAF from
1942-46 andpracticed medicine in Sarnia
from 1947-72. He was past -president of the
Medical Staff at the Sarnia General
er staff Hospital Sal
andonserved for many years
Joseph's Hospital, Sarnia. He was also ac-
tive in the Junior Chamber of Commerce,
the Rotary Club and helped form the Multi-
ple Sclerosis Society in Sarnia.
Dr. Bruce was also a past -president of the
Sarnia Riding Club.

A former girls' Sunday School teacher in
Holmesville and an active participant in the
women's groups at the churches, died on
December 4 in Huronview.
011ie Fern Jervis, of Huronview and
formerlyf Goderich Township and Clinton,
died at the age of 92.
Mrs. Jervis was born on January 25, 1894
to the late William H. and Luella (Moore)
Lobb. On May 1, 1918, she married the late
Lorne Jervis at the Maitland Concession,
Goderich Township.
,Mrs. Jervis, a member of Wesley -Willis
United Church, Clinton, is survived by one
son, Donald and his wife Dorothy of Burl-
ington; two sisters, Mrs. George (Elsie)
Henderson of Huronview and Mrs. Norman
(Vera) Wilson of Sarnia.
She was predeceased by three sisters,
Luella Cox, Joy Williamson and Minnie
Snieder; and five brothers, Bert, Clifford,
Frank, Fred and Mervyn.
A funeral service was held on December 6
at the Beattie Funeral Home, Clinton, with
Rev. James Bechtel of Wesley -Willis
Church officiating.
Interment in Clinton Cemetery.
Sarah Belle (Sadie) Lovett
Former Clinton shopkeeper, Sarah Belle
(Sadie) Lovett, of London, died on
December 5 in Victoria Hospital, London.
She was 87 years old.
Miss Lovett, who ran a specialtyshop on
Clinton's Main Street for many years, was a
. member of Ontario Street United Church.
She was born in Clinton on September 9,
1899 to the late Noble Whitely and Elizabeth
Maude (Gauley) Lovett:
Miss Lovett is survived by several nieces
and nephews. She was predeceased by one
sister, Mrs. Thomas (Mabel) Harrison; and
one brother, Charles.
A funeral and committal service was held
on December 8 at the Ball and Falconer
Funeral Home with Rev. David Woodall of
Ontario Street United Church officiating.
A spring interment will be held in the Clin-
ton Cemetery.
Matthew Ivan Dasher
Baby Matthew Ivan Disher, son of Ivan
and Joan (Dale) Disher of RR4 Clinton, died
in St. Joseph's Hospital, London on
December 3.
He is survived by his maternal grand-
parents, Harry and June Schroeder of RR2
Centralia; his paternal grandparents, Fred
and Bernice Disher of Fisherville; Reta
Dicks of London as well as several aunts and
uncles.
Matthew 'was predeceased by his.mater-
nal grandfather, Carman Dale.
Funeral and committal services were
held on December 6 at the Ball and Falconer
Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Elder
officiating.
Interment in Clinton Cemetery.
James Wallis Sturgeon
James Wallis Sturgeon, of Clinton, died in
Clinton Public Hospital on December 3. He
was 70 years old.
Mr. Sturgeon was born on May 15, 1916 to
the late William and Jessie Beatrice
(Wallis) Sturgeon in Bayfield.
During World War II, he served in the
RCR, seeing service from 1942-46. During
these years, he saw active service and was
wounded in 1944.
In 1945 he married Kathleen Marie Bean
Peggy Menzies to lead UCW
CLINTON - The Christmas meeting of
Wesley -Willis UCW was held on December
3. A luncheon of turkey casseroles, salads
and desserts was served to the members by
Ann Mclean and her committee.
In the absence of President Peggy Men-
zies, Vice -President Ann Mclean conducted
the meeting. She opened the meeting by
singing several Christmas carols, led by
Marie Black and Kay Wise at the piano.
Kathleen Whitmore introduced the guests,
Peggy Rivers and Pauline Linguard, Who
gave an updated report on their work at the
Christmas Bureau of family and children
services.

Fifty-six attend
CLINTON - Ontario St. UCW held their
general meeting on December 2 in the
church parlor. Fifty-six members attended
with the Morning, Afternoon and Evening
units represented.
Valena Trewartha, Vera MacDonald and
Leila Johnston of the afternoon group con-
ducted the worship service.
The program took the form of an enter -

CLINTON - December 7 marked a special
Sunday at Wesley -Willis Church when six
young people - Lloyanne Adams,. Lisa Beat-
tie, Sam Grigg, Chris Hoggarth, Monica
Meade, and Mark Walker took their church
membership vows, after having completed
several months of catechism study with
their pastor, Rev. James Bechtel. Two of
the class - Lloyanne Adams and Chris Hog-
, garth, also assisted in the service by
reading 'the scriptures.

Christmas thoughts was given by Elaine
Becktell. She also expressed her thanks for
the kindness shown them while Rev.
Bechtel was in hospital.
Huron -Perth Presbyterial are urging
parents to avoid war toys as children gifts.

The Annual meeting will be on January 7
at 9:30 a.m. in the church parlor and in-
stallation of the officers will be on January
11.

Donna Woodall organized a get -
acquainted contest in which the members
were divided into groups of three, after
which the morning unit served lunch:

Advent Candle and the children's storytime
which was about sharing. Following that the
Grade 7 and 8 Sunday School students
gathered up all the baskets of White Gifts
the congregation had brought to give to the
Christmas Bureau which assists needy
families in Huron County. The senior choir,
' conducted by Mary Hearn sang Do You
Hear What I Hear? and following the ser-
vice, conducted by Rev. Bechtel, everyone
enjoyed a fellowship time.

with the Ministry of Health as a staff doctor
at the Bluewater Centre in Goderich
Township, the McKinnon -Phillips Centre in
Owen Sound and at the Alexandra Marine
and General Hospital in Goderich. At the
time of his death, he was retired in Bayfield.
Dr. Bruce is survived by his wife, two
daughters, Mrs. David (Sherrill)
Ledingham of Mississauga and Barbara of
Montreal; one son, Robert and his wife
Melanie of Toronto; and two grand-
daughters, Elaine and Melissa Ledingham
of Mississauga.
He is also survived by one brother, Lorne,
of Transcona, Manitoba.
A funeral service was held on December 8
at Ball and Falconer Funeral Home, Clin-
ton, with Rev. John Hoekstra officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Pere Allston,
Jack McKenzie, Len Apedile, Dr. James
Garrett and Dr. Hank Gibson.
Active pallbearers were Bruce Adams,
Brian Adams, Joseph Grimes, Paul Char-
ron, L'ee Schultz and Gordon Nettleton.
Interment in Bayfield Cemetery.
