Provincial funding is vital to erosion con-
trol projects. The province, through the
Ministry of Natural Resources, contributes
a regular grant of 55 per cent of the project
cost. For the ABCA it adds an extra grant
(called supplementary) of 30 percent of a
total provincial contribution of 85 per cent of
project costs, to protect life and property.
Local dollars account for the remaining
amount.
The ABCA is currently dealing with two

CLINTON - This fall Clinton Public
Hospital ( CPH) welcomed a new staffer to
its ranks when Paul Stackhouse joined the
physiotherapy department.
The former Toronto resident comes to this
area from a position in Hamilton where he
worked in a private practice. Mr.
Stackhouse 'graduated from McMaster
University in Hamilton in 1983.
Interested in living in a small town, Mr.
Stackhouse applied for the opening at CPH.

Bayfield River (Tuckersmith Township)
Erosion Control Project
This project which began on November 10,
will correct an erosion problem on a bend in
the Bayfield River about one quarter of a
mile upstream of the Clinton Conservation
Area. Two landowners requested the work
but about five properties will receive some
protection.
Alec Scott, Water Resources Co-ordinator
with the ABCA described the construction.
"The river undercut the 16 metre high bank
on the outside of the bend, so we are moving
the river channel away from the bottom of
the bank and filling in the old channel", said
Mr. Scott. "We are protecting a portion of
the outside bank with rock rip rap to seal off
the area where the river used to flow."

DUBLIN - The trustees of the Huron -
Perth County Roman Catholic Separate
School Board watched a 12 to 15 minute pro-
motional video tape of the board's first
secondary school in Stratford, made by the
staff and pupils.
St. Michael Secondary School opened the
first of September and houses three classes -
Grades 7, 8 and 9 in two distinct units.
The trustees listened to the students tell
about their school and what is hoped to be
achieved in Catholic education. The impor-
tance of team spirit is impressed on the
pupils. The students were shown involved in
team sports, at work in their classrooms, in
their religious classes.
The board will have the film shown in
schools in Perth County this week to give
pupils and parents a chance to see what St.
Michael , School has to offer and to en-
courage enrolment. to

During the past year, the Physiotherapy
Department also acquired a Kinesiologist,
Terry Flowers. Her speciality is working
with individuals with movement problems.o
She is also an expert in developing a proper
exercise program to suit the individual and
their needs.
With the addition of qualified staff comes
the responsibility of supplying most
modern and up-to-date equipment for these
professionals to work with, if their potential
is to be utilized to the maximum.

several years and were pleased to approve
another piece of equipment, a HydraGym,
which is used for controlled exercise under
the supervision of the professionals in the
department.
CA. Mr. Scott expects that the firms will
complete the major tasks by December 19
with landscaping work held until spring.
The ABCA estimates the total construc-
tion cost at $79,000. The Township of
Tuckersmith is the special benefitting
municipality, for funding purposes, but the
two property owners are covering the
townshcent of the cost. The AB -

cost, the province contributes the,rest.
Mr. Scott pointed out that the proposed
remedial measures for this site included
three phases and the current projects only
phase one.
"However, that's all that the ABCA an-
ticipates doing at this time because phase
one solves the major problem", said Mr.
Scott. The ABCA will proceed with the se-
cond and third phases if the need arises and
funding is available.
