Claus -Steep
Diana Claus of Seaforth and Steven E. Steep
pf Clinton were wed on October 18 at First
Presbyterian Church, Seaforth. Rev.
William Barber officiated. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hal Claus of
Seaforth. The groom is the son of Mrs. Jean
Steep and the late Richard Steep of Clinton.
Michele Sinnamon of Seaforth was the maid
of honor. A sister of the bride, Ingrid Claus
of Seaforth was bridesmaid, along with the
groom's niece, Joanne Hayter of RR 1 Var-
na. Flowergirl was Karlanne Moore of
Newmarket and the ringbearer was Jamie
Hayter of RR 1 Varna. The best man was
Lee Cusak of Seaforth and ushers were
Eldon Schmidt of Clinton and Jeff Hayter of
RR 1 Varna. A wedding reception was held
at the Seaforth Legion before the newlyweds
left on their honeymoon to Niagara Falls
and northern Ontario. They are now
residing at 64 Erie Street, Clinton. (Brenda

Muriel Beyer
Funeral services were held on November
27 for a lifetime Clinton resident, Muriel F.
Beyer.
Mrs. Beyer died at her Clinton home on
November 24. She was 75.
Born in Clinton on March 6, 1911, she was
the daughter of the late John F. Mulholland
and Maud Cantelon.
Mrs. Beyer worked as a nurse's aid at
Huronview and was also employed at the
Stedman's Store in earlier years. She was a
member of Wesley Willis United Church.
She was also a member of the Huronic
Rebekah Lodge 306 in Clinton. Lodge
members held a memorial service on
November 25.
As well, a memorial service was held on
November 26 by members of the Clinton
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 140.
Mrs. Beyer is survived by her husband of
36 years, Russell T. Beyer. She is also sur-
vived by one daughter Mrs. Jacqueline
(Jack) Bryden of Kingston.
She is survived by one brother, Howard J.
Mulholland of Crystal Beach, and,
predeceased by one sister Donna Marion
Birch.
Funeral and committal services were
held at the Beattie Funeral Home, Clinton
on November 27. Rev. David Woodall of-
ficiated, assisted by Rev. William Barber.
Burial took place at the Clinton Cemetery.
Andrew Veenstra
„ An Clinton area farmer and native of The
Netherlands, Andrew Veenstra died at his
RR 4 Clinton home on November 22. He was
63.
Born in Ureterp in the Dutch province of
Friesland on March 23, 1923, he was the son
of the late Louis Veenstra and the former
Elizabeth Yhema.

He wed Wilma De Vries in June 1948 in
Grotegast, Holland. Mrs. Veenstra survives
her husband.
He is also survived by six children, Mrs.
Gertie (Jack) Gerrits of RR 1 Clinton; Mrs.
Elizabeth (Al) McLean of London; Mrs.
Sylvia (Len) Hazenberg of London; Louis of
Shakespeare; Fred of RR 4 Clinton and Ar-
nold of London, as well as nine grand-
children. He was predeceased by one son
John.
Also survivingare brothers and sisters,
Irene Jagersma, John, Ralph and Andres
Veenstra, all of Holland.
Funeral services were held at the Clinton
Christian Reformed Church on November
25. Rev. H. Samplonius officiated and
pallbearers were Jack Gerrits, Al McLean,
Len Hazenberg, Fred Veenstra, Arnold
Veenstra and Andy Veenstra. Interment
was held at the Clinton Cemetery.
Beattie Funeral Home in Clinton made the
funeral arrangements.
Robert Walter Hartman
A 22 year Goderich Township resident,
Robert. Walter Hartman died at London's
Victoria Hospital on November 25. He was
65.
Born in Waterloo on January 31, 1921, he
was the son of the late Joseph Anthony Hart-
man and Edith Wunder.
He was raised in Waterloo and later serv-
ed as a private in the army during World
War II.
On November 27, 1948 at St. Louis Church
Rectory in Waterloo he wed Pearl Evelyn
McGee.
Following their marriage in 1948, they
continued to .live in Waterloo where Mr.
Hartman was employed with Newtex
Drycleaning as a drycleaner and presser.
In 1964 the Hartmans moved ..o the proper -
ty they, owned on the Bayfield Line in
Goderich Township where they have resided
ever since. After moving to this area, Mr.
Hartman was employed at Sherlock -
Manning Piano Factory in Clinton, then at
Dearborn Steel in Goderich until his retire-
ment in 1979.
Along with his wife, Mr. Hartman is sur-
vived by one son Wayne and his wife Joyce
of RR 1 Bayfield, and one daughter-in-law
Mathlida ( Tilly) Hartman of Bayfield. He is
also survived by two grandchildren, Sharon

Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Marie
Eugene) Lico of Toronto, and one brother,
Arthur of Waterloo.
Mr. Hartman was predeceased by a son
Mark and by three brothers.
Funeral services were held on November
28 at the Ball and Falconer Funeral Horne,
Clinton. Rev. David Snihur officiated. Inter-
ment was held at the Bayfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Louis Hartman, Paul
Hartman, Dennis Fleischauer, Fred Brall,
Bruce Miller and William Turner.

CLINTON - The Wesley Willis United
Church Women (U.C.W.) afternoon unit
meeting was held November, 20 with
Kathleen Whitmore presiding.
The minutes of the previous meeting were
read by Marg Cole. The roll call and finan-
cial report given by Helen Rathwell.
The Card report showed many members
ill at this time and the chairman asked that
members remember all those unable to be
present.
Mrs. Dunsmore gave a good report on
past events and those coming up over the
Christmas season and later in the new year.
Members are urged to be present at the
open meeting in December to discuss these
events.
The UCW Christmas meeting will be a lun-
cheon at 12 noon on Wednesday, December
3. All ladies of the church hopefully will
attend.
Edna Stewart took over the devotional
and program. A poem and reading on war,
the sacrifices made, the futility of war suf-
fering of those who bore the brunt and why
wear a poppy? was the first part: Mrs. Arm-
strong read two passages from the Bible
pertaining to war and in her usual in-

conflicts. Prayer was offered by Daisy
Holland.
Mrs. Stewart gave an interesting talk and
description of the Peace Gardens, partly
made in Dakota and Southern Manitoba to
establish peace for all time between these
two territories. Many had not heard of this
beautiful region. Some 50,000 people attend-
ed its opening. It is a haven for the animal
world also, birds and beasts find shelter
there badly needed in the world of today.
Mrs. Stewart followed this splendid descrip-
tion of a beautiful part of our world by a fur-
ther travel talk on Hong Kong and the
meeting closed leaving everyone with some
spendid thoughts to consider.
How they scored
at Euchre party
CLINTON - A euchre party was held in St.
Joseph's Hall on November 26.
The ladies' high was won by Vi Hawes
while Frank Thompson was the winner for
the men. Lee Gliddon had the ladies' low
and Mary Dale, playing as a man, had the
men's low. For the , ladies' lone hands
Donalda Flynn' came out on top and Mary
Mair, also playing as a man, had the men's
lone hands. Vera Priestap was the lucky
chair winner and Esther Moffat won the
door prize.
The next euchre party will be held on
December 10.
