( David Emslie photo) Explorers meet CLINTON' NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 1986—Page 7 UCW caters turkey dinner for Happy Gang By Cheri Taylor LONDESORO - The Explorers began their fifth meeting on November 12 with a Christmas carol played by Cheri Taylor. Mandy Medd and Mandy Hadenko then read the Explorer Emblem and Erin Jamieson read the Explurer picture. A col- lection was then held that netted $5.50. Roll call was answered by the best thing the members liked about winter. All of the members were present, while the guests for the meeting were Erica Horbanuik and Jane Anderson. Following roll call the members adjourn- ed to the kitchen where they had a snack. They then discussed fund raising for the "Back the Biter" weekend. For their craft the Explorers made Christmas felt horses. For their sixth meeting on November 19 they opened the meeting with another Christmas carol, this time played by Angela Horbanuik. Christmas candy stockings were made for their craft. Paula Allen and Lindsay Ander- son read the Explorer picture before roll call was answered by what the members wanted for Christmas. All were present. The collection raised $3. • Hot chocolate and gingerbread cookies were enjoyed by the girls. •1 By Dora Shobbrook LONDESBGRO - The Happy Gang held a hot turkey dinner on November 26 that was catered by the Londesboro UCW. Hazel and Les Reid were in charge of the dinner tickets, which sold well as there were 55 present to enjoy the dinner and entertainment. President Audrey Thompson welcomed all and introduced the head table. She then gave a reading before a free will offering was accepted for the "Back the Biter" cam- paign for Ron Nesbitt. The UCW ladies were thanked with ap- plause prior to a sing -song of Christmas carols. Genevieve Allen accompanied the carollers on the piano.. Clara Riley introduced the special guest Ethel Ball who showed slides on her trip to Greece. She was thanked by Lorne Hunking. The next meeting will be held on January 29 at 8:30 p.m. United Church For the first Sunday of Advent on November 30 Rev. Snihur and Murray Howatt were welcoming the Londesboro United Church congregation members to the morning service. The ushers were Fred Peel, Michael Radford, Brian Whyte and Brian Howatt. Rev. Snihur announced that on December 7 White Gift Sunday will be held. At 7:30 p.m. on that evening there will be a children's Christmas pageant service. On December 14 there will be a hymn sing, and singers are asked to bring ornaments to decorate the tree. The flowers in the church were placed in memory of Robert Hartman and the poinsettia was placed in memory of Harry Watkins from his wife Hazel and family. The lighting of the first advent candle, the candle of love, was done by Donna Dunbar and her daughter Lois. For children's time a song was sung about Karen Wright Garnet and Margaret Wright of Londesboro announce the graduation of their daughter, Karen Wright, from Westervelt Business School, London. They all attended the "Back the Biter" weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Carter, Ken Armstrong of Londesboro, and Cheryl Armstrong of Stratford attended the funeral of their aunt Alberta Armstrong in Hamilton on November ,25. She was the sister-in-law of John Armstrong of Londesboro. Colleen Carter of Exeter spent the even- ing of November 29 at her sister's, Cathy and Devon Broome of Egmondville. Cathy and Colleen attended the bridal shower at their mother's on Sunday. On December 3 shuffleboard will be held at 8 p.m. All are welcome. WI cards will be held on December 5 in the Londesboro Hall. All are welcome and the ladies are asked to bring lunch. The WI Christmas meeting will be held on December 10 at 2 p.m. The UCW Christmas pot luck supper will be held at 6:30 p.m. on December 8. Members are asked to bring a guest. The Burns UCW are invited and there will be•a cookie exchange. A bridal shower for Leanne Thurlow was held at the home of her aunt, Doreen Carter, on November 30. Cathy Broome and Colleen Carter conducted several contests and gifts were presented to Leanne in a pink and white decorated baby cot used by Doreen when she was a baby. Helping to present the gifts was Wade Broome. Leanne was wished happiness in her marriage that takes place December 6. Corsages were pinned on Leanne, her mother Marlene Armstrong and her future mother-in-law, Mrs. Beattie. Lavina Knox of Goderich visited on November 30 with Jean Scott. Weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns were their daughter Betty and Jerry Smith of Coburg. Noon hour fun for students with Captain Ball play Captain Ball LONDESBORO - Once again it's the cap- tain ball season at Hullett Central School Grades 4 through 6 have the pleasure of playing this exciting game. Every noon hour two teams battle it out to see who's best. Grade 7 students referee the games. The referees are Cathy Nesbitt, Cristy Bricker, Kim Saiverda, Jennifer Nott, Robb Finch and Melanie Knox. Parent-Teacher Interview The past Wednesday was an enjoyable break for the students, It was parent, teacherinterviews, dealing with the report cards from last week. Book Sale The school book sale was on November 28, and December 1 and 2. The pupils had the choice of buying many different books.
