Pumpkin pies highlight
eountry.siyle d dinner
HURONVIEW - The women residents
from the Shady Nook wing were busy last
week rolling out dough in preparation for
baking pumpkin pies. The pies were served
as dessert on November 18 to top off the
ladies' country -styled dinner. The menu
also included sausage, eggs, bacon and fried
potatoes. These special dinners have
become popular events at Huronview Home
for the Aged.
Also last week at Huronview, Rev. Gordon
Simmons of Clinton conducted the Anglican
communion service on November 18. Olive
Colwell assisted the minister and Frank
Bissett played the organ.
The monthly birthday party was held on
November 19 and entertainment was pro-
vided by Huronview residents. Emcee Cin-
dy Fleet welcomed everyone and announced
the numbers on the program.
Helen Beach got the concert underway by
singing "Danny Boy." Then Helen and her
sister Marg Percy, along ..LI1 Pam Beach
and Tammi McClure sang "Whispering
Hope." Mabel Scott have a humorous
reading, followed by Tammi who played a
medley on her violin. Pam and Tammi then
sang. Frank Bisset and Ethel Hill presented
humorous readings and the Huronview
Choir sang a number of old time tunes. The
party concluded with a singsong, the names
of the birthday celebrants were mentioned
and refreshments were served.
On November 20 a noon ho.ur Appreciation
Dinner was held in the main dining room at
Huronview. Presentations were made to
staff members who have given 15 and 25
years of service to Huronview.

Johnstone and Don Crich, while Jane Ladd,
Ruth Howatt, Shirley Dale and Josephine
McGregor were awarded 15 year pins.
That same afternoon, residents attended a
"Farewell To Ettie" party in the craft
room. Ettie, who looked after the hairdress-
ing needs at Huronview, was wished much
happiness with her husband in their
retirement.
Rev. John Pluta conducted Roman
Catholic Mass in the Huronview Chapel on
November 21. Bingo was played that after-
noon to round out the weekly activities.
New resident Reta Dales of Clinton was
welcomed to Huronview last week. Also,
sympathies were expressed to the family of
the late Gordon Pascoe.

business, Sheila feels confident in her new
business venture.
"You have to be strong," she says of her
learning experience at The Arbor. Now
Sheila feels that she knows how to deal with
salesmen, how to deal with customers, how
to deal with losses.
"At The Arbor the first time someone
shoplifted I cried. I took it so personally."
Sheila has tough ambition goals for he.r
men's wear business. Her concept for the
store is to provide superior quality clothing
with a young fashion look appeal for men in
the 25 to 50 age bracket.
She refuses to agonize over the business
lessons she learned at The Arbor. Sheila
flatly states that she'll give the men's wear
store three years to make a profit.
"I enjoy retail. If this doesn't work, I'll
probably find another store."

"Business is better than we ever expected
in our wildest dreams," she noted.
Carolyn Mitchell went into her venture
with good understanding of what to expect
from the business world. Still, she has learn-
ed a consideration amount of new informa-
tion in the few short months that she was
been a business owner.
Neighboring businessman Doug Norman
advised Carolyn that she should expect a
complete personality change in a year.
"He was right," Carolyn says. "What took
me by surprise was the amount of time

that's involved in owning your own
business."
There's the time involved in the store's
hours of operation. There's time involved in
buying stock, rearranging merchandise,
decorating windows, maintaining the shop,
keeping up on the bookwork, worrying about
the business.
Carolyn estimates that she has less than
five hours of leisure time at home each
week. Some weeks she may only have one
free hour to spare.
"They -also say that if you succeed at
business you marriage won't," she notes.
Carolyn realizes however that there are
limitations in the amount of time that she
can devote to her business. She stresses,
"There has to be a point where you stop.
You can only do so much."
Is her business venture a success?
Carolyn says, "Ask me in five
years....Women generally succeed in
business because they don't expect too
much too fast. They're willing to make it
grow."
Carolyn's next phase of her lifetime pl.
is to do just that.
